      Season 4 is so wild, yet still so grounded in classic film techniques and tonal cues.
      Season 4 is probably the best season, but that's only because the rest of the show is so cohesive and incredible.
      I don't want this show to end.
      Best tv series of all time.

      @@QazwerDave that whole episode if eXit where Elliot is transferred into a world where everything is perfect was all fake it wasn't some alternate dimension where we believed no it was a prison as the Elliot in that world said his life is a repeat a mundane boring world which he still loves but totally boring. Our Elliot wanted his world but that world was created to protect the real Elliot, because the Elliot we have been following throughout the Mr. Robot was not the real Elliot it was another personality to protect the real Elliot, he was the mastermind behind everything. The reason Mastermind Elliot wanted to steal his life because he wanted to be in control after he worked so hard to create this world that he saved for the real Elliot, after the countless deaths of his friends and loved ones, he wanted happiness but it wasn't his to keep.

    What so impressive about the almost completely silent episode is that I literally didn't notice it until after I was done. Most shows would try to draw attention to it in a "aren't we being clever and experimental" kinda way. But the setup and execution are so clean, if for example Elliott hadn't stopped narrating this season it would feel abrupt that he doesn't say anything when he's in that kind of high-stress situation. But we have gotten used to Mr Robot taking that job and since he's not there you don't think about it. It also works because there are no movements you would associate with trying to be expressive without words.

    • @RobotHau5
      @RobotHau5 5 лет назад +11

      Nice way of putting it! I didn't notice until I saw this video, and tbh the way he filmed moment to moment highlighted what you're watching vs what you thought you needed to hear. When I was taking a design course, my prof told me to try to write a story without any dialogue. I thought that would be boring but clearly I had no clue what could be done with little to none.

    • @talentleesdorito9771
      @talentleesdorito9771 5 лет назад

      Neither did i notice that theres allmost no dialogue

    • @alexengland-shinemercy
      @alexengland-shinemercy 5 лет назад +3

      I felt the same. When I heard people talking about 'the silent episode' I wondered wtf they were talking about because I had defiitely seen every episode released up to that point, and I hadn't noticed any damn 'silent episode'. That was because it was so effective Iit hadn't jarred me at all and I hadn't noticed it. Talking would not have added anytihng in that episode, and the carft of writing the script *so* show-not-tell that dialogue would not have aided anything.... that left me pretty gobsmacked.
      And the premise of the vid here? TV is the new cinema? I had no TV for most of my life because it was mostly cheap, boring and unstimulating content. Now I have a TV (albeit minus traditional TV connection, it just has a chromecast attached) and haven't been to the cinema for years apart from a language-learning trip with students. I think the streaming networks' takeover of the creative ground is a fait accompli - they now have the originators of art in the medium coming to *them* asking for a space to crrate in. It's not just Scorcese, it's also creators of fantasy, of comedy.... Good Omens worked so well Gaiman is looking to bring The Sandman to a network, after decades spent nixing studio's attempts to get it on film. I don't know if cinema can come back from this.

    Mr. Robot really takes a lot of risks, such as that one-take episode from season three, silent-episode, and the stageplay one, along with the sitcom. But there is also an entire flashback episode in season three, which is kinda crazy too. Even the episodes in season four are written in a way that it matches the 4** error codes, like 401 Unauthorized, 402 Payment Required, and so on. It's amazing and I am sad it's ending, but at the same time, happy that it doesn't go on forever like the Walking Dead.

Everything about it is perfect, camera angles, music, storytelling, complexity, cast, themes. I can't stress enough how much I respect Sam Esmail for what he's created here. I completely agree with your points about movies taking too few risks, which is also why I (for the last few years) haven't left the cinema with a gut-wrenching or uncanny feeling quite like the ones I get from every. single. episode. of Mr. Robot. Thanks, Sam Esmail, you hero.

    Yessss! You articulated exactly what I was trying to tell my husband the other day. I rarely watch movies anymore and when I do, even the “critically acclaimed” ones inevitably disappoint me. The story telling just seems so simplistic, characters so flat, plot so thin. TV has far surpassed cinema in the last 5-10 years!

  • @CourtneyCoulson
    @CourtneyCoulson 5 лет назад +1

    In 2019 alone TV has given me much more to think about and discuss with friends than film has. Even something as silly as Rick and Morty generated deeper discussions, a half hour animated comedy show had more substance than most major Hollywood films. My brother and I were obsessed with Mr Robot and Watchmen, eagerly awaiting the next episode, each getting bigger and crazier and less predictable than the last. We really had no idea where these wild journeys were taking us and it was thrilling, It felt like anything was possible. Where as when I watch an MCU movie and a character seems to be in peril, I'm sitting there thinking about whose contracts run out soon. And this contrast is perfectly illustrated by Star Wars, did Rise of Skywalker create that much of an impact? Not really, everyone is discussing the Mandalorian, well specifically Baby Yoda, but the show is still a breath of fresh air.

Back then I still hadn't really started to watch media trying to understand what I liked about it, both visually and on a story level, and I think this show is what made me understand how much you can say when you have a vision and something you want to say, and know how to say it.
    I have watched it 5 times, watched it with my brother to share such a masterpiece with someone who I know would appreciate it the way it's meant to be appreciated, and it brings me so much joy both to have a show that means so much to me, and seeing people who also feel the same way that I do.

I've wondered what it must have been like to live in a place in time when the people were able to hear back in the day for the first time to Beethoven, Mozart, Thom Yorke, Queen... or hearing about Einstein, Newton or Feynman. But of course as soon as he realizes Fernando has been trying to help him he gets killed.

    I'm so glad someone finally said it. Even with this extensive review, there is still so much more to say about Mr. Robot. I have watched this series week by week ever since the pilot came out so I had the time to analyze each episode thoroughly. The attention to detail in this show is truly amazing. The finale was so satisfying and if you were like me, then you would have been able to see it coming because there are many subtle hints that Esmail laid all over the show. However, I still found myself amazed at how everything came together.

    • @kevincoverstutorials475
      @kevincoverstutorials475 5 лет назад +1

      Helois Gevit the whole show revolves around Elliot’s dissociative identity disorder. Throughout the show we see Mr. Robot as an alternate personality. But in the finale, we got to meet “the third” personality (the happy Elliot stuck inside a perfect world) and soon after, it was revealed that the Elliot we know and love was only just another one of those personalities. The Elliot we’ve been seeing for 4 seasons is only a part of real Elliot, the one who holds the rage and seeks revenge for the pain that’s been caused to host Elliot. This Elliot is called “the mastermind” or “hooded Elliot” and he was created by host Elliot to make the world a better place while he slept in a perfect world inside his head. However hooded Elliot started to enjoy the control he had and didn’t want to give it up, until he realized that host Elliot didn’t have his sister Darlene inside that world. He decides it’s finally time to give up control and the show ends with the real Elliot waking up. Sorry if this is confusing, dm me if you still have questions.

    GREAT thesis. I have to say, I agree with you. Sad that mainstream movies aren't as bold and creative as they used to be, but at the same time, it's great to live in the golden age of television. Series like Mr. Robot are absolutely incredible. The same elements of a great movie can be found there, and then some. I sincerely hope that great, fresh, new movies that are being shown in theaters aren't becoming a rarity, but will be the great form of art it used to be, and can be, for mainstream viewers. People will get bored of them eventually, I hope, and then it is time for the creative minds to show their talent once again for not only film lovers, but the general public as well.

    I don't usually write comments on YT videos but I have to say I am deepy touched by this video as well as Mr Robot as a whole.At first couple of years ago when I started watching this show (I started watching it as it premiered) I just thought hey why not, I was filling some gaps I had because of couple of shows I watched were on the brake and I thought the show would be ultimately cheap and kinda boring, like it would try so hard to be interesting.
    Instead what we got was mind-blowingly brilliant gem of a show that really takes care of characters, their progression and is really not only really good in execution (Like you mentioned with the whole one take, silent episodes, etc) but also every plot point leads to something bigger and really unexpected.
    I really think the show is kinda sleeper hit and that in 5-10 years this show will be seen as classic masterpiece, people will talk about it like they do now about Breaking Bad and some others.
