This song was recorded and then filmed in my own home studio.
"Without You" is a song written by Pete Ham and Tom Evans of British rock group Badfinger, and first released on their 1970 album No Dice. The power ballad has been recorded by over 180 artists, and versions released as singles by Harry Nilsson (1971) and Mariah Carey (1994) became international best-sellers. Paul McCartney once described the ballad as "the killer song of all time".
In 1972, writers Ham and Evans received the British Academy's Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically.
🙋🏼 ABOUT ME: My name is Alyona Yarushina, or Aly. I was born in Russia, and I am a singer, a musician,
I play the piano and do many arrangements myself, I’m in love with 80s and 90s rock. In Russia, I played with several bands. One of them is the best Led Zeppelin tribute band in Russia called "Plumbum Dreams". The other one is called "Back from the USSR", where we played Beatles songs in my own arrangements. We played in Liverpool, England almost every year on the Beatles week fest. My dad, Valeriy Yarushin is my bass player in this band. He's a legend of Russian folk-rock and his band “Ariel” was most popular in the 70s and still is now. I learned a lot from him.
In 2004, I won the “International Hopes of Europe” competition in Sochi, Russia along with the “Grand Prix” prize for singing I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston.

Always loved this song. Mariah has full props for taking it and making it her own. She's undeniably one of the greatest vocalist ever. This cover is impeccable and beautifully done by a extremely talented vocalist ready to take on the world. Absolutely love it.
Bravo, Alyona!!! If you compare Mariah's and Alyona's vocal technique, Alyona's singing is much more complicated and challenging. 2:37 shows it perfectly! So technically, Alyona is a better singer than Mariah. But Mariah has that unique, almost spherical tone in her voice, not alto, not quite soprano, but something in between, that distinguishes her from others. A combination of that unique voice and Mariah's emotional singing has won over million hearts all over the world. Having said that, Alyona's voice is powerful, extremely versatile and unique in her own right. I just hope Alyona will get the world-wide love, success and recognition she deserves!

I've no idea how much of the variation between this and earlier versions is you and how much Mariah, and I feel no need to find out.
I knew this in the Harry Nilsson version (yes, I am that old), and I must admit I wasn't even aware that Mariah Carey had covered it.
I think in the UK his still gets more airplay on golden oldies (yeah, rub it in, why don't they) channels and shows.
Back in 1971 It was definitely on the playlist of every station I could recieve that played current music - I think anyone in the UK at that time would have had to hide under a rock not to know it.
I know by now that you can sing almost anything except badly, Aly, but Power Ballads are where I think you shine the brightest.
I don't think I've yet heard you do one that I don't prefer over the original.
I can hardly wait for you to come out with your own originals - I have no doubt they will be exceptional.

I knew it was Harry Nilsson that put this out first. In the U.S. it was on the radio all the time. Alyona does a wonderful job on this song and many others. Yes, I'm that old too. Born in the 50's
It was written by Pete Ham, lead singer of Badfinger. They were so terribly stripped and cheated by the music industry that he and his base player took their lives..

This is because they never heard Heart and Ann Wilson's rendition of this anthem. Mariah Carey was 6 years old when Annie killed it on the album Magazine. Alyona's rendition closer to Ann's magnificent performance/
