Rammstein's first appearance on my channel! I got so many requests after doing the analysis of "Sonne" with Elizabeth (The Charismatic Voice) -- I knew I had to bring some Rammstein (and Till's bass vocals) over here. What else from them do I need to check out?

You should check their latest song Adeau! The cinematics are crazy there as well. And the song is quite different from their usual catalogue. Dicke Titten and Zick Zack that are very silly and a bit more light-hearted in contrast to their more serious stuff.

He's mentioned before that part of operatic training covers speaking/singing in languages he doesn't speak to be convincing enough for native speakers to listen to it. There are plenty of German operas, so it's not really a surprise he can read it out. I would kind of expect the same for Italian or French.

Wow. As a German I am very impressed with your pronunciation. It is so good. There are parts that are as good as accent free. Especially the 'ch' sounds are so clean. Is that because as an opera singer you had to learn German lyrics down the line or are you just a natural :D? Anyways. Great video.

Amazing reaction. Your Expertise is phenomenal and your German as well. Really love to see more reactions from you. Rammstein has so many layers. I as a German know this band since I was in my teens but never was into metal rock genre very deep. Now as a 57 years old guy I discovered this amazing band again and started understanding. I think Rammstein is one of the most misunderstood bands. Their compositions and lyrics have so many layers and hidden beauty in them that want to get explored. They put so much effort and love into their work and some of their songs hit me really hard emotionally but in the best possible way. Especially „Zeit“ is a peace of art that leves me speechless and deeply moved everytime. So many recomendations… just begin. 😃 All the best from Germany

The song is about the ambivalent relationship of Rammstein and many Germans to their country, because of the violent and cruel history with extensive human crimes ("red line of violence through german history"), especially in recent history. Therefore the video features various events from German history, including Roman times, the Middle Ages, witch hunting and burning, Protestant Reformation, the November Revolution, the "Golden Twenties" and hyperinflation, Nazi book burnings, the Hindenburg disaster, the First and Second World Wars, the Holocaust, the Weimar Republic, the Red Army Fraction (violent anti-capitalist terror alliance of young people and students against Nazis in high state and economy positions in post-war Germany), and the division of the country into West and East Germany including the Uprising June 17 in East Germany. The black woman represents Germany and one of the Colors of the German flags, sometimes as a victim, but mostly as a perpetrator. With her black skin she is also a provocation to all stupid racists
A lot of people do not understand the scenes with the dogs. This breed of dogs are not German Shepards, but Leonberger. This breed of dog narrowly escaped extinction during the First and also Second World Wars and is symbolic of the German people, whose existence was also strongly threatened in those wars (Morgenthau-Plan) - both now have a second existential chance, just like the new German democratic constitution, which in future must be protected as strongly as if it were under quarantine (Judges in red robes, Rammstein members in protective suits with the dogs)
The Holocaust was for this reason the greatest human crime because it was the first industrially organized mass murder in human history, by a country that was culturally at its highest point at this time and called itself the country of poets and thinkers. But it is precisely the high cultural and scientific level of Germany that unfortunately caused others to be viewed as subhuman who can be killed without pity, just like animals. Seeing other people as inferior has always brought a lot of suffering to people
Rammstein is one of the most famous metal bands and are living legends with the same line-up for nearly 30 years. They are a german band and are considered the best live band in the world, especially when it comes to showmenship, pyro and fire. Above all, Rammstein uses pyro quite differently than all other bands.

    • @zotti1696

Which dogs do you mean? The ones she has on the None are definitely German Shepherds. Or do you mean the ones she gives birth to at the end?

    • @michaelfinck7487
      @michaelfinck7487 22 дня назад +1

@@zotti1696 In the second part of the chorus, a scene is shown in a hall in which Germania, accompanied by a police escort, runs towards the camera. She wears panties made of gold chains, a laurel wreath, a leather jacket and an ammunition belt around her shoulders and leads five German Shepherds on a leash.
But the born dog that is often incorrectly identified as a German Shepherd is a Leonberger. This dog breed narrowly escaped extinction during the First and Second World Wars and is therefore symbolic of the German people, whose existence was also severely threatened in the same wars - both are now given a second existential chance.

As a german this piece is even more impressive, because there is no scene where there is anything that is not a reference to german history. Maaany words have double meanings, but you only get them when you are german. Also: The "Deutschland, Deutschland, über allen" is a reference to the former national hymne of germany last sung by the Nazis. It started with "Deutschland, Deutschland, über alles" - Germany, Germany, above all. They sing Germany, Germany, above everyone. So they do slight, but powerful wordplays.

The Battle of the Teuteburg forest was 9 AD and no Roman survived that not a single one = in that battle 3 entire Legions got totally wiped out entirely by a in comparision small number of Germans (ambushes in the dense forest with uncountable hit´n run attacks) + the Roman Proconsul(Governor) of "Germania Magna" who was also the General of those 3 Legions named Publius Quinctilius Varus got killed therefore the Roman Empire got kicked out of "Germania Magna" = Germania east of the river Rhine in that single battle entirely. That was under the reign of Emperor Augustus.
That is - not - part of the Deutschland video´s intro.
In the Deutschland video that small intro is about the aftermath of that battle when the Romans returned into "Germania Magna" 5 years later by launching a military campaign under the reign of the new established Emperor Tiberius Nero Claudius in 14 AD for 3 reasons (besides that Tiberius wanted and had to make a name for himself as new Emperor)
    1. in order to get back the 3 lost "Aquilas" of the 3 lost Legions = "Roman Eagles" = "Legion´s standards" because loosing those was the biggest dishonour for the Roman Empire = basically you can loose battles and you can loose Legions even also loosing soil BUT you are not supposed to loose the Legion´s Eagle by no means = totally "No Go" for the Roman Empire +
    2. to find the remains of the 3 Legions in order to bury them honorable +
    3. to take revenge and as consequence to get Germania Magna back.
In that campaign of 14 AD the Romans found the remains of their comrades and buried them (the contemporary historians wrote they buried the bones of friend + foe + even wild animals because all those massive numbers of bones weren´t to distinguish anymore) + fought several battles against the German Tribes but Germania East of the River Rhine = "Germania Magna" could not be conquered anymore but they got 2 of the 3 Aquilas back but couldn´t get the 3rd one so they then captured the pregnant wife of Arminius (= leader of the German tribes)Thusnelda instead and brought her back to Rome as war loot and painted that more than less failed military campaign as so to speak "partial success" and as consequence Tiberius Nero Claudius got the official byname "Germanicus"...very extremely simplified explained what the very short intro of the Deutschland video is actually symbolic showcasing.
And by the way the piano part during the credits is the chorus of the song "Sonne".

    • @u.z.9383
      @u.z.9383 Месяц назад +5

In 16 A.D. Arminius got killed (in the video Till Lindemann). His chopped off head is marked by a laser beam. The video initially was planned as a fight between two brothers : Arminius getting killed by his brother, who is a Roman officer. This is 🎉the "tribal stage". Germany will be established more than 900 years later. "The designed Germania" is not coronated yet and her dogs are still wolves. She cuts off the hero's head and preserves it until the present day, giving an explanation of the "tribal spirit" of Germany. As to the ( birth of ) dogs: there's a nice and easy, very friendly German dog race , the
Leonbergers. These dogs almost died out in WW1 and WW2. The task of the astronauts is, to make Germania give birth to Leonbergers, symbolizing peaceful Germans.

Loved your reaction. Not many people pay attention to details like the stereophonic image like you did in the beginning with the interwoven synths. Cudos to you. This video is interesting and excellent on so many levels, from the audio to the cinematic production to the lyrics. Too many references to point them all out. Till sounds like Zarastro, in some ways, with his bass voice. Germania kissing the severed head (which has Till's features) reminds me of Salomé. When Germania appears in the video, the colour design is usually in black, red and gold, the colours of the German flag. Thank your for not skipping the Outro.
And I am sure you will love the piano version of "Mein Herz brennt". This is pure theatrical acting at its best and super impressive.

Holy... Peter, I'm impressed in multiple ways! I knew from your videos, that you have some experience with the German language, but wtf..? 😯Your pronunciation and diction is fantastic! 👌
Then you chose the maybe most "difficult to understand" video of Rammstein. Even for many Germans it's hard to recognize or know all the historical references and the meaning for the song. (I think, the 'Leonberger Dogs' are one of the most unknown thing and even portraying icons like the Quadriga are often overseen).
And yes, I really can imagine operatic versions of Rammstein songs!
Perhaps you are interested in one of Till's Solo, eerie, haunting, terrifying in a way, but vocally veeery interesting: Take a look to the piano version(!) with Sven Helbig of "Mein Herz brennt"/My Heart Burns
I think, all the videos from this era like "Zeit", "Angst" or "Adieu" are pure art and cultural possessions we German should be proud of - But 'pride' is a difficult topic for us.
Great R&A and indeed surprising. Dankeschön! ❤😊

Would love to some more Rammstein! The music video is such a haunting masterpiece of allegory. In nordic and european literature the phrase "the red thread" means a connecting theme in something. They present it as laser beams, making the historical scens surreal and the modern ones threatening, all while carrying disturbing ideas of blood and violence. All moments of oppression, of germany, by gemany, resolving in outlashes of opposition and freedom ever more surreal. A very operatic piece of music and video, would love to see an aria of it ;)

Hi Peter ... I really enjoyed your analysis and comments to "Deutschland" ... just in case it was not pointed out in the comments below (I browsed them, but it might have slipped my attention) ... The Piano Theme while the credits are running, is a theme from Ramstein's song "Sonne" that you analysed together with Elisabeth (wonderful reaction clip also, thank you both) ... It took me a while to identify this - for me also haunting - piano theme ... cheers from Germany/Deutschland

Thanks for your video. Rammstein "Deutschland" is one of my favorite pieces of German Art: Seamlessly blending powerful soundscapes, historical reflection, and striking visuals urn into a provocative exploration of national identity and cultural legacy. Dive deeper into the historic background and explore a next facette of the video. Best D

You are still new to Rammstein, so a tip for you : ALWAYS listen to the MV to the end, it's not only the credits. Their MVs are art, and have to be seen in full. In some, like Zeit, something very important happens in the very last second of the clip. Too much thought, art and artistry is involved to just skip it as "it's only credits". It would be like going to the Louvre to see just the ten square centimeters of the Gioconda's smile and leaving.
Rammstein is not some average metal band - loud but mostly empty.
Just imagine : a band singing in German, filling stadiums everywhere in the world. (and the fans singing with them even without knowing the language).
They really are on a different level. Also : the production of "Deutschland" cost 6 M euro, "Zeit", "Adieu"much less, but still more than any other group in the world.
The best breakdown is by "Three arrows", and even they cover 1/3 of the nuances in the video.

    1.) DAS Ende
2.) The outro is the "Sonne" theme.
3.) PLEASE apply to a South German opera house and force them do a Rammstein based opera! I am not at into opera, but you performing "Deutschland" in operatic would be a perfect reason to start and dig into, I think.
4.) Great Reaction! I also really like the background preparation you put into this.
