I wish I’d seen this video 7 years ago when my stepdad found a painted turtle & gave it to me 😭 They are SO! MUCH! WORK! I had no idea. And I didn’t have the space at the time for a turtle, so the poor thing lived in a 20gal until I rehomed it to someone more knowledgeable. Turtles are so cute & deserve to be treated so much better than they are by unresearched owners. ☹️
This happened to me I got a yellow belly and the lady selling them said they aren’t that much work and didn’t tell me how to care for them. The moment I got I did my research and went out to go get them what they needed
I have three turtles that do NOT get along, I cannot house them together so I have THREE turtle tanks XD I don't have the space or money for external filtration so I do weekly water changes and it takes an hour for each tank, but they're worth it. I probably shouldn't have gotten them because there's so much time and money and space involved but they're adopted from people who were going to throw them to the river because they got tired of them and I just couldn't let them. It makes me so happy to see them with actual tanks to swim in (one was housed in a hamster cage for eight years before i adopted him) and filters and controled heating and natural sunlight to bask in daily,if I had to do it all over again I so would
I myself got 2 turtles in a gift from a reletive who died because of Corona I think he knew he would die that's why he gave me them. There name is froppy and shel I don't have the space or money and I don't know what to do with them. Eny Edvice?
No living creature should be given into the sole care of a child until the child has demonstrated an intrest, aptitude, and ability to maintain the animal. Even then, there must be an adult to ensure the resources are provided for the child to properly care for the animal (habitat, nutrition, and vet care).
Very helpful! I’m a tarantula keeper but one day someone (a kid from my apartment complex I’m assuming) left a red eared slider on my door step in a tiny enclosure with the food on top. I had no idea how to take care of a turtle luckily I actually have done all the right things. Thanks so much for the feeding outside of the enclosure tip I can’t believe I never thought of that 🤦🏻♀️ cleaning the tank is a PROCESS and filter replacements are expensive but I love him so much wouldn’t trade him for the world!
Omg thank you so so much for this video. When I was little, like, ten years ago, I really wanted a pet and my mom bought me a turtle. We didn't have any ideas of how much we would have to work to keep her well and we didn't take well care of her for years. Now that I'm older and starting to take care of her by my own I realized we are doing SO MANY THINGS WRONG like omg I can't stop feeling guilty. When I discovered we were neglecting her, I started doing a lot of research and I told my parents about it all, so we're building a new enclosure to her. I'm watching so many videos and all, and this one is far one of the better of them. Take you so much for helping me taking better care of my turtle.
I watched this because my husband and I are considering buying a turtle but we want to do it right and take good care of it. Thank you so much for this video!
My pawpaw has raised a turtle named tuck for 11 years now and they juss let it roam around the house and feed it worms and stuff .. it hasn’t died yet 😂😂🤦♀️
Thank you for this. My turtle was a gift. So far im doing everything right. Thank you for the idea of feeding them in a separate container. That will make it so much easier
A friend of my mom's gifted me a painted turtle years ago when I was a kid, maybe 4th or 5th grade. I loved him, and took care of him as well as I could. He loved minnows. I could watch him stalk them for hours, it was so fascinating. I was young, and really knew nothing about taking care of turtles or reptiles in general, my mom was not well versed in the subject either lol. He had nowhere to bask or anything. I had him for maybe 2 years before I gave him away to a friend. I'm heavily considering getting another painted turtle or 2 now that I have the means and the know-how to do it properly
This was a super helpful video! I have a painted turtles and I bought them everything they needed as soon as possible! And I'm so happy and obsessed with them 😁 they do require a lot of care and work but it's definitely worth it, they are such beautiful and unique creatures 🐢
Do you feed your turtles every day or every other day or something else... also how long can a turtle go without food (red eared slider turtle) someone plz give me an answer
question! i rescued a red eared slider from a girl who was keeping him in one of the small critter keeper containers..she said she had owned the turtle for about 2 years..i brought him home and put him in a 10 gallon aquarium (to not overwhelm him) and i’ve had him for almost a year. He is still SO TINY, he’s doubled in size, but he’s still probably about 1 1/2 inches around. I always thought that “keeping him in a small container will keep him small” was a myth too..so i’m not sure why he’s not growing?
I impulse buy large turtles 😳 it requires two 120gallon tanks four turtles 😬 but I love them they are soooo cute! They also love to sleep & bask together!
This is awesoomee! Turtles are neglected so much by lot of people... The rescue i volounteer at is full of red eaered sliders and yellow bellied sliders who were released into the wild (it's a very big problem here in Italy, they became two of the most problematic invasive species) or straight up surrendered after months or years of abuse... It's just heartbreaking.
I used to have a red eared slider (called red eared terrapins here in the UK). It was the size of a dinner plate. For years I was convinced that I had a boy, but I have come to realise that I had a girl all along: the females grow much larger than the males, and they have shorter tails and front claws compared to the males. She loved uncooked defrosted cod fishfingers (with the breadcrumb coating removed before feeding it to her, of course).

I'm so glad I came across this video. My 12yr son was gifted an aquatic turtle...not sure the type. But I'm realizing this is another child for me lol. Now I'm going out to buy different types of food, different lights and a bigger tank including decorating the inside. My question is if and how long can aquatic turtles be out of water?

I just rescued a yellow belly slider natural from Florida. She was in the side walk really dry. I make no idea how it came far from the canal. She seem very active in the aquarium. Should i put it back to the canal? Seem to be so little to survive...
My turtle came from a bad environment and never had a proper heating source. Now that I’ve got everything for him he basks a lot of the time and he’s starting to get brown on his neck area he’s a red eared slider can you please give me any advice?
You can use fake plants! Avoid fabric because it gets gross over time! And make sure the plants you get are durable and your turtle can’t try to eat it. If they do, I’d recommend not using them.
My African side neck was bought at a pet smart and when we saw her in her terrarium the water wasn’t even up to half to her shelf and she was still pretty young
My family found a Wild turtle and we are keeping them for a little while. We are waiting for the lift to come in in two days (we bought it online) what should we do while waiting for the light?
Also, my parents won't take him to the vet and they aren't doing much. I can't bring him alone and I'm worried for his wellbeing. We've had him for around 5 hours. He's a baby turtle and very small
I adopted two baby res turtles this past summer from someone selling them illegally, without having any knowledge that it is illegal or how to care for them. However, I am a very passionate animal caretaker so I have done loads of research :) They are currently basking on their dock while I watch this video XD I love watching these kinds of turtle videos since I can see how other people have their full grown turtles set up. I used to have that waterfall filter. My turtle hated it. So I got him an underwater filter. He still hates it! What is the best filter that won't super bother him?
Hi I have a question I've notice my turtles like to bask at night and sleep in the morning. Is it okay if I turnf off their lights in the morning day light and turn it on at night. I live in a basement its always dark. Also they do not like to eat veggies. Is it okay not to feed them veggies.
I have a problem... I had a family give me their pet turtle. It's a Mississippi map turtle... I got a 55 gal for the little guy with live plants (Turtle safe) With two large filters and a basking spot with the same lights you just spoke about but when I look closely at the poor thing, he has bleeding spots on his shell! I feel so bad for the little guy... what could have done this and is there something I can do for him? The family that gave him to me has moved out of state and I wasn't close with them... so I don't have a way to contact them. Nothing else seems to be wrong with him. He's swimming around happily and eating well so I'm not sure what to do. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated
how long would it take to clean a tank with only one turtle ? im getting a water turtle in a few days ! i had one before when i was 8 but my mom cleaned the tank for me so i dont remember
I got a baby res I like the idea u said feed outside the tank ! Great idea mine is a baby so should I give it mostly protein like pellets and shrimp .. or should I mix the veggie too
I bought a red eared slider and I knew I what I was doing, he came a small container I quickly moved him to a 10 gallon tank keep in mind he was a baby. I’m happy there’s people like you that tell people the truth before the kill them by not knowing the truth
If I have 2 painted turtles how big of an enclosure should I have? Also if they are different sizes would they be ok together or should I wait until they are both full grown.
Impt. Video I live near a creek n have rescued turtles 🐢 that have wandered in the street .I've always retired the safely to their natural environment..lulu is so cute .
Hello, I am a starter on all of this. I did about a week of research and I am getting a western painted turtle (male). I got this starter kit from zoo med and its 20 gal. I was wondering if 20 gal is enough for my turtle? (We are also getting plants and logs to release stress)
Sana_ ko Some can. They may in the wild because they are opportunistic eaters, but I personally don’t because it’s not as nutritious as other foods and it’s fatty.
Can you please help me, in the next few weeks i'm going to move to germany to live there and i want to take my new born red eared slider with, but the problem is that i have no idea if turtles need any vaccination or health certificate to intern an Europe state or they just will allow to her to come without papers .. so if anyone know any Informations or had a travel experience with a turtle please answer me very quickly.
i recently got a turtle which was on the side of the road in a bin (abandoned), it is a midland painted turtle and he doesnt really trust me, any tips? also he isn't eating any of the food i purchased for him. for reference i got him zoo med gourmet aquatic turtle food. i have found he does not eat anything that floats but I have caught him nibbling at the balls. also any tips? I do have experience with turtles, i just feel a bit lost because it has been a while
I just rescued a turtle. She was in a very bad situation and they had no clue. I'm trying to learn and give her the best life ever. I don't know anything about her except I do know about bearded dragons and that she's going to need special lights special food special temperatures
Potato Lord - PUBG Mobile I’d recommend starting with at least a 20 gallon and then increasing over time. They need a lot of space to be able to swim around! The more the better!
I thank you for this video. I will wait and keep doing my research. I was going to get one but now I am definitely going to need some more time to think about this.
Hi, your video contains sooo many helpful informations!Thank you sooooo much... ❤️ I have two Yellow Bellied Slider Turtles too. They are around 7 too 8 years old and measuring 13cm. I really want to know how to let them have a good and healthy hibernation. How long should they stay there? Which temperature is the best? How much space do they need? How much water should be in there? I keep them in the cellar now. It’s always very dark and pretty quiet. Is this good? My turtles are very important to me and I would love giving them a good life. I hope you can answer some of my questions! Thank you so much again!😊
Turtley awesome! ^-^ Great info Tricia...people really do need to be educated on turtle care, they're neglected way too often. This is super great! 💚
Hey The Turtle Girl I was just watching your video! Turns out I’m getting a red rated slider turtle
Love how the turtle's just chilling there like "yehh...."

We found a baby in the back yard and it is treated like a king with everything lol!
I completely understand your struggle with turtles. It takes me about 3 hours to clean my 55 gallon turtle tank. They’re sooooo worth it though.
I have a yellow belly in my 70 gallon he's loving life I enjoy your video

If I have 2 painted turtles how big of an enclosure should I have? Also if they are different sizes would they be ok together or should I wait until they are both full grown.

“Make sure it’s a healthy one not taken from the wild” me sitting here with a turtle I found on the street

My turtle won't eat outside of the tank. What should I do?
Supplements?
Hello, I am a starter on all of this. I did about a week of research and I am getting a western painted turtle (male). I got this starter kit from zoo med and its 20 gal. I was wondering if 20 gal is enough for my turtle? (We are also getting plants and logs to release stress)
No, that's too small for an adult.
How big is that tank and how do they not fight each other. Great video
Good refreshment video. I used to have a 250gl pond I made and it housed 3 missi maps. Going back into the hobby with a florida softshell. 🤙
Kevin Bruening Great choice 😍
They are called ty raps, zip ties, cable ties.
They can eat mouses sometimes ?
Sana_ ko Some can. They may in the wild because they are opportunistic eaters, but I personally don’t because it’s not as nutritious as other foods and it’s fatty.
@@reptiliangarden we don't have much turtle here, juste some like Oberon i guess and with the law we can't sell them to everyone (and there not baby)
Thank you for making this video!! Spread the word and love about PROPERLY caring for turtles! 💞🐢
*my brother who got a cricket tank, filled with water and a rock, threw a turtle in and boom*
i recently got a turtle which was on the side of the road in a bin (abandoned), it is a midland painted turtle and he doesnt really trust me, any tips? also he isn't eating any of the food i purchased for him. for reference i got him zoo med gourmet aquatic turtle food. i have found he does not eat anything that floats but I have caught him nibbling at the balls. also any tips? I do have experience with turtles, i just feel a bit lost because it has been a while
I just rescued a turtle. She was in a very bad situation and they had no clue. I'm trying to learn and give her the best life ever. I don't know anything about her except I do know about bearded dragons and that she's going to need special lights special food special temperatures
Is a 10 gallon good for a baby?
Potato Lord - PUBG Mobile I’d recommend starting with at least a 20 gallon and then increasing over time. They need a lot of space to be able to swim around! The more the better!
OMG my turtles fly through filters but I love it because thye have been growing for YEARS
I thank you for this video. I will wait and keep doing my research. I was going to get one but now I am definitely going to need some more time to think about this.
Hi, your video contains sooo many helpful informations!Thank you sooooo much... ❤️
I have two Yellow Bellied Slider Turtles too.
The girl looks like Lilibu ASMR 😅😅😅
