Love this Mick Rock interview. He had great respect for Freddie and his other friends and subjects of his fabulous pictures. Mick had class as shown by his discretion and respect for their privacy. Rest In peace, Mick. You left us a beautiful legacy.
Fascinating. Sooo happy I came upon this interview. Thank you! And yes, he was clearly simpatico with Freddie. Mick Rock produced an extraordinary body of work never to be forgotten. And delicious stories to share!
No matter who he's talking about, I always enjoy listening to Mick Rock's stories. He always seems very intelligent and kind hearted. I've never heard him say anything negative about anyone really.... Always liked his photographs too.
@@sikkevanderveen funny how he talks about Roger and Brian being heterosexual...but he doesn't mention John Deacon. He keeps saying "I can't give to much away"
Love Mick rock but he was definitely David bowies friend before he met Freddie which is fine but I think it's a tad irritating how he always insinuates freddie was a poser in the early days and bowies character was the real deal when it's quite the opposite. Freddie was being himself in the early years when David had to put on the makeup to become his character
But he does not insinuate it at all! On the contrary, he said that many people claimed Freddie and the band "jumped on the bandwagon" of glam image while, in fact, Freddie had always been the way he was
@@georgesonm1774 that's absolutely right! Freddy and Roger ran a clothing stall in an outdoor market together with fashionable clothes, and they dressed like rock stars even then
Thank you for this fascinating interview! Mick Rock has very astute observations on the whole androgeny phase of the early '70's (among other social entities), and he found a kindred artistic spirit in Freddie Mercury. I love his use of the word "florid" to describe Freddie. LOL. "Flamboyant" has been used to death, and 'florid" seems to fit better! I remember seeing a snippet of Mick Rock speaking in a documentary, and wanting more of this very interesting character! So thanks again for the upload.
The year Mick Rock did a cluster of interviews and documentary was 2011 - 2015.......plus he was the official photographer of Queen and Freddie he had them for sale!!!!! 😎 cool
I could listen to him talk forever, he is so charming however I have seen him in a few documentaries of Queen or Freddie Mercury.......The movie called Freddie Mercury plus the the doc. Queen How they broke free.....he was interviewed about queen and of course Freddie.......both are great doc......very very interesting!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤
Great video w/ awesome stories. Mick was so interesting. RIP Loved when he said he and Freddie "hustled their vision" on that shot for the cover. When he said it, I laughed....it was completely descriptive and accurate
So interesting his insights. Love this interview. Let's us get closer to know what was going on in these times. He nailed it with Freddie's bisexuality. Freddie was so unique and a one of a kind.
Still the most fabulous interview; unique insight into Freddie and Queen. Its fun and filled with interesting first hand fact. EDIT: Mick's words 1:08:00 thereabouts comprise just the best attention to losing Freddie.
I would have loved to talk to Mick ,such a nice guy, androgynous people were very cool and had taste back then, and there was a kind of code I think that they didn't have to scream in your face, nowadays it's so naff with the woke era , just my take on it 💖
I really enjoyed this video. Mick seems like a down to earth guy and that's probably why he and Freddie hit it off so well. I would love to meet him some day. He's going to be near my home town tomorrow but I'm working so I can't attend. :( I want to go visit his gallery while in London next year though.
I just saw where someone commentedthat this was in 2000. Why is it there is always the no. of 'views' and the date ; but who really cares. Most of us are interested in the date of the video
Si supieras que para mi es sin duda la mejor entrevista sobre Queen o Freddie Mercury. El se expresa increíblemente bien. Hizo las fotos de Queen II ( Soy un seguidor de Queen desde 1975)
You're wrong. I am German and Dietrich is not pronounced Dietrick. 'ish' is more correct. it follows a dark vocal 'I'/'ie' so you pronounce it more like a soft sh Sound

This is the best and most informative interview of the beginning of Queen. I hung on to every word from Mick. Loved this!!
R.I.P. Mick....Nearly 30 years to the day that our wonderful Freddie left us.......I hope you are spending time together.........................xoxo

I love his voice and the way he talks also😊
I hadn't realized that he passed in November 2021. RIP
Wonderful interview by Rudi!! Love listening to him talk about Queen and Freddie❤️💛
Mick Rock is great to interview❤️💛
One of my very favorite videos of Mick .❤
I am glad that Freddie was a pleasant guy in real life as well as on stage.
Mick, My lost brother from another mother. Miss you everyday and everytime. JIggery-pokery. Love always. Will meet one day again.
Mick Rock certainly has a way with words, he expresses himself really well. I thoroughly enjoyed this video! Thanks
mick rock..intelligent,, probably one of freddie 's real friends..👍
+Kuijpy that's because Queen became tax exiles and did not slent a lot of time in the UK. This is the same reason Mike Stone left as a enigineer...

Bowie didn’t have a voice like Freddie
Noooo! Freddie was not a poser!! Yikes!! Yes Freddie was himself!!
But he does not insinuate it at all! On the contrary, he said that many people claimed Freddie and the band "jumped on the bandwagon" of glam image while, in fact, Freddie had always been the way he was
Oh, you mean David insinuated that?

its such an amazing interesting interview, so glad i've come across it
I just love Mick Rock he is such a cool guy plus he was a good friend of Freddie !!!❤ 👑 And Queen .....😉 ❤❤❤❤
Great interview, love his description of the social milieu of the time...late 60s into the 70s. My time! Best line... "When I was a little girl"!
RIP Mick Rock
I’d love to see a compilation of his work.
I’ve constantly seen exerpts from this interview, but had never come across the whole thing. Thanks!
That was fascinating! Thank you so much for making this available!

Very interesting. Many things I had never heard before ( Lou Reed being "impressed" by Queen's early music, for example ). Very articulate guy.
Fascinating insight into the mysterious Mr Reed : "Lou is Lou".

I'd love to see the photo he's talking about with the white vase. I can't find it anywhere. Post it if anyone's found it please

All the English men seem to mispronounce Marlene Dietrich - It's pronounced Dietrick not Dietrish.
My last name is Dietrich and Dietrish is better than "Diet" "Rich" at least! LOL

What year is this?
It was for the documentary Freddie Mercury The Untold Story so it was released in 2000
