  • The Try Guys recently lost one of their members, Ned Fulmer, after he was caught cheating on his wife with an employee. Shortly after, the other three members, Eugene Yang, Zach Kornfeld and Keith Habersberger, made a video explaining what happened. But what does their body language reveal? How do they really feel about the situation? Are they hiding something? Find out now!

Eugene is also the only child of divorce in the group and he talks a lot about how much he struggled growing up and the negative feelings he used to have about his dad in their videos.I think that’s a big reason why he wants people to see how upset he is .

Yes and that is why he is pissed! And not so fast to give Ned a break. Plus the mention of internet of being hard on woman is on point. Oftentimes cheating men get a pass and either the other woman is demonized and/or the wife is said not to meet her husband's needs. Eugene is fighting sexism and taking a stand on this.

I liked that Keith kept his arm behind Zach. It seemed like a supportive and protective gesture towards Zach. And as far as them cutting Ned off from his income, he's going to be fine. His net worth is listed at $10 million and is the highest of the four of them.

@@ranga1cat Yes! And Ned built his entire brand on his relationship with his family. The cookbook with his wife, the podcasts about being parents. He's been milking that aspect hard, so the hypocrisy is especially strong. Like looking back at the lie detector episode where he fully believed his marriage was stronger than everyone else's... that's literally his whole brand.

I also liked that Keith kind of had his arm around Zach.
And I actually came down here to say that Ned and his family aren't going to take that much of a financial hit from him losing his job. The amount they have saved up by now will be more than enough to last them until Ned finds another line of work. They might have to lower their standard of living a little bit, but I don't think we'll see them in line at the soup kitchen any time soon.
And if he and Aerial get divorced, hopefully she and the kids get all the money they're entitled to. I don't know if it's common for famous men to get off light in situations like this.

I Agree to this 100% , but Im just going to correct the usage on Net Worth. It isnt his yearly income, its the total wealth (assets - Liabilities) so he might be worth $10 Million, but that doesnt mean he has useable income/disposable money. Keith's weird smile thing is SO relatable. I often have this reaction when a moment gets so serious that I feel like laughing out of dismay or dark humour to cope. I watch Try Guys a lot and Zach tends to laugh when he's in really difficult situations as a deflection. Anytime it's like "well I've fucked this up and it's completely beyond my capabilities to fix this" or "I know I have no chance of doing this successfully" but he has to keep going anyway, he tends to do that smile and laugh thing. It's like the physical embodiment of "if I dont laugh about it, I'm going to cry." I dont think he thought anything was actually funny. The situation sucks and there's nothing he can do about it, so that's how he is indicating that he accepts that fact.

  • @lampekartoffel

As someone who have watched The Try Guys since their second year as a Buzz Feed group. Eugene's reaction is absolutely no surprise. He has continuesly shown and said that he has a hard time trusting and letting people in. However, in the last few years he has become more open to letting people in - and he's expressed that this is partially thanks to the other 3 guys in the group and their friendship.
So no, Eugene didn't just loose a friend and business partner, he lost someone he trusted. One of the few people he truly trusted and knew how hard it is for him to trust.
Ned helped build Eugene's confidence in other people to the degree where he could come out to the whole world as gay. Ned KNEW all this and still smashed that trust to pieces. But not only did he do something to break Eugene's trust. He also put everyone in a really bad situation that could, potentially, break the whole company or at least damage it. To make it even worse, Eugene is also friends with Ariel and has had a lot of childhood struggles due to his own parents getting divorced when he was a kid, so this probably feels even more personal to Eugene.
As for cutting Ned's whole income? That's not really a thing. All the guys have side business and honestly, even if he didn't, Ariel has a good job and can take care of herself and the kids, so if they struggle due to his shitty choices, then she should throw the man on his ass so he can reap what he has sown. I have no sympathy for Ned in this.

The Try Guys image is all about being wholesome, non-problematic, and drama free. This scandal is anything but and has gotten nationwide coverage in all the newspapers and much of it has been inaccurate. Brands wanting to do business with a brand (Try Guys) that includes a family guy (Ned) is now going to pull out. Brands wanting to have nothing to do with drama are going to pull out. Around 43:15 when you're talking about Zach's laugh and Eugene's headshake, I know EXACTLY why Zach is laughing, because it's what I do. When something is shocking or (more likely in this case) just an unbelievable cluster****, you laugh because you can't do anything else. The situation is a bit overwhelming, and it feels like your options are to either sink down and lose yourself in being upset and angry or to laugh about it. People think I'm nuts when things are going wrong at work.
Keith I feel like I also understand, because my brother is the same when things are bad. He kind of shuts down and doesn't let loose a ton of anger or sadness, he just gets focused and tries not to let out an inappropriate reaction, which results in a bit of a "blank" look.

Really insightful observations about Eugene’s fashion choice and his struggles with identity. He has stated in previous interviews that he has difficulty expressing his emotions so he uses fashion as a means of expression and as a shield. So it makes sense that his choice of clothing is intentional. Also, Eugene was the most reluctant about joining/investing in the company and releasing his videos through the TryGuys channels, so I can understand why he would feel the most betrayed by the exposure of Ned’s “the wife guy” facade and infidelity.

I think they were extending grace to the employee largely for legal reasons (I.e. avoid being sued by her). 1. Because Ned was her superior, power imbalance potentially at play ( think potential #MeToo); 2. Avoiding libelling someone who (I think, not sure) hasn't publicly admitted guilt, unlike Ned. Again, to protect their company. They can't be seen to blame her.
It's a bit ingenious of the analyst to say he doesn't know what its about. Women DO generally get a lot more negativity online than men; that some people have actually tried to blame Ned's wife for his cheating is abhorrent. The issue isn't that he cheated, it's who he cheated with. If Ned cheated with some random person it would tarnish their wholesome image but, it likely could have been handled differently. Eugene's posture was something that really stood out for me. Usually when someone is sitting with their legs crossed like that, it comes off as comfortable. But with him, it's like he is closing himself off or put distance between his real emotions and what he is meant to say. His anger also made me wonder if he himself has ever been cheated on. Maybe that could be a reason why he has so much anger for Ned.
I haven't watched a lot of their work but Keith and Zac usually seem like fun and goofy guys. It was a very different feel than what they are usually like.

  • @JennaGetsCreative
    @JennaGetsCreative Год назад +83

My initial thoughts from the clip line up with what most fans are saying. Eugene is angry, Zach is trying not to cry, and Keith looks exhausted.
    Edit for further responses-
Zach shrug, probably a mix. Mostly doesn't want to go through everything, probably also admitting there's no way to go through "everything" but for simplification purposes, go with it.
Keith breaking eye contact, I think he's ashamed with himself for not seeing clues. I think they're sincere that they didn't know but I think at least two of them are feeling some guilt. (I say at least two because it's hard to read anything other than anger from Eugene.) I think the "no" is disapproval of Ned's action/disappointment in Ned, and again, shame.
Eugene headshake while Keith is talking, agreed, show of disapproval (of Ned.)
"Aggressively pissed-off" made me laugh. Bang on!
Excellent insight into WHY he's mad. He has had to fight for his identity and this does potentially cast doubt. It's personal for all of them because this is their company, their friend, their employees, but the other two probably aren't worried about what the fans will think of them as individuals in the same way Eugene is.
I agree Zach ultimately agrees with the decision they all made but probably struggled most with the moral decision making because yes, that's his friend. He doesn't want to hurt or lose anybody and he's still battling with the inner conflict of this was the right decision but it sucks.
I took Zach's little laugh at the branded videos part as an acknowledgement that it's awkward that they're committed to branded content at this awkward time. I agree Eugene's again disappointed in all the ways this impacted what they've done and possibly was thinking Zach's laugh wasn't appropriate.
I think Eugene's being protective of the women involved mostly for Ariel's sake and also a little because no matter what Alex's consent level was, there's an unbalanced power dynamic there in Ned's favour. It's possible Alex is claiming it wasn't consentual. Knowing all the little things fans have nitpicked and brought out from old podcasts, it sounds like Alex has a history of being a party girl I wonder if Eugene sees vulnerability there. I think Eugene feels MORE protective of Ariel and angry about that relationship breaking because of the kids involved and the fact that he's a child of divorce. He also might be urging for everyone to go easy on Alex because Alex's fiance did immediately break off the engagement, so no matter her fault level, she has also lost something major.
To respond to the cutting off Ned's income: 1. I'm sure he's still entitled to some amount of money, between residuals and severance, etc. Possibly bought out as owner by contract. But also, Ariel (Ned's wife) is still an employee of the company at this time, so they haven't left a family with small kids without an income.

      Yes to all of this.
Also, Ned is likely to be the least financially hurt by his separation from the company. Not just because he'll likely get some form of buyout from the other three Try Guys (adding insult to injury), but also because he was already wealthy going back to their Buzzfeed days.
Ned came from a well-off family, went to Yale, then worked in finance. That dude's the epitome of the saying, "he was born on third base & thinks he hit a triple." He wasn't just an owner & manager - he was the Try Guys' head of HR! Being removed from the company isn't a punishment per se; rather, it's a legitimate consequence of his actions.

I think Eugene's urge for people to be kind to the girlfriend is a deliberate statement designed to protect the company. She was a subordinate to Ned and he was ultimately in a position of power and a partner. He is trying to deflect a lawsuit that could potentially come from her as an employee. Zach just breaks my heart and Keith reminds me of a disapproving uncle.

This was an incredible video to watch! I also think it's interesting who looks at who at what time. For example a couple of times Zach looks over at Keith when he's looking for support or Eugine when he's trying to show support for what he's saying. However, the others don't really do that except when they're wrapping up at the end and maybe are not as focused on remembering the script. I think it shows their relationship with each other as a unit and also that Zach is seeking more reassurance from the strength or protection from the other guys.

I don't know these guys. You explaining their backgrounds and positions on their show explains alot. My first reaction was how they were sitting on the couch. The first man was braced and almost distancing himself from the other two. At first I thought he was separating himself from the other two men. But no. He is holding himself back because he is beyond angry. The man in the middle is genuinely distraught. Plain and simple in grief mode. The 3rd man has his arm over the back of the couch one arm hug over the guy in the middle. And really the entire group. My heart hurts for all 3. They are struggling with their pain. That is my arm chair analysis.

In Italy shoulder shrugging is commonly seen as "I don't care" kind of attitude. When kids do that to parents or teachers they're in big troubles so we learn from a young age not to shrug.
My son is in the spectrum and he struggles with social cues. To him shrugging could mean "I don't know" or "I'm sorry I can't help you with that" or many other things.
I remember a specific episode from before he was diagnosed. He was 12 or 13 and I was talking to his teacher. She was concerned about his overall behaviour even though he's always been very quiet and well behaved. Basically she was telling me that few of her colleagues notice his dismissive behavior towards them, when in fact it was not at all the case.

Hi Spidey, great clips so far with a lot of things te read.
    Here is my take.
    Movements:
    Left Gentleman
    -Inward finger movement
-a lot of arm shakes (is this a sort of pacifying?)
    -inward lip licking
    -lip compressions
    -eyebrow flash
    -nose touch
    Middle Gentleman:
    -Higher blinkrates (spikes)
    -Rubbing hands (is this pacifying?)
    -Handmovements doesn't feel in sync
    -eye blocking
    -lip compression
    -lip upward, contempt
    -praying pacifying
    -lip lick
-look away and shows contempt during sponsor
-during the privacy part he's both pacifying, liplicking and has lip compression.
    Right guy:
    -face touch
    -lip conpression
-after the long "this" lip goes up and nose opens showing angre
    -eye block
-after talking about removal, lip compression.
    Wordings:
Right: engaging public romantic behavior. "Psychological distancing"
Left: "this" and a long break. "Also distancing.
Right: when he talks about branging video's left shakes his head and the middle one eye flutters, had a lip compression and looks away (down) eye blocking.
Left: "stuff like this" one again distancing.
Left: a lot harder towards, eyebrow flash seeking aproval.
Te overal feeling I get from this video is that the discission is mostly made by the guy on the right, or at least he shows a lot less empathy towards the situation. Also he talks about the branded video's, like thats of any importants besides the money they recieve for this.
The middle one and the one on the left look very down, its a pretty depressed setting and I think there is a lot of disareement between them.

It's discerning, sharp, clear, firm and boundaried! I find the seeming moral-mush of the other two, to be unnerving, spaghetti- noodle- spinlessness. At 17:00, I interpreted that shrug as a “as we go through” and he starts to think about all the things they’re going through, and they are going through so much, it’s a shrug of “I don’t even know where to start.” So like, “as we go through… I don’t know, EVERYTHING.” There’s just so much they’re going through, he doesn’t even know where to begin. So he just groups it all together as “everything.” That was my interpretation.

45:51 Zach once told Ned that he looked up to his marriage as the ideal. I think it's in the lie detector video. I think with Zach's laughing, he might be laughing at the absurdity of it. How they have these videos with Ned that they HAVE to edit and post because they have a contract with a company or brand. It would seem silly and strange (if that's what he means. I don't know if he means prerecorded videos with Ned or future videos without Ned where they have to pretend everything is okay). And Eugene kind of shaking his head may be disbelief or disagreement with the fact that they have to post the videos. He may not want to or maybe he's thinking about the comments.
Also Ned and Alex weren't just coworkers cheating on their partners. Ned was her BOSS. And even though she is a completely consenting adult, there will always be speculation on whether or not she felt pressured because Ned was her boss. I personally don't believe that she was, but there are such high emotions with boss/employee relationships that cutting Ned off was definitely the right choice.
