I'm convinced he uses the same defense mechanism as I do. If you're not completely certain you'll succeed, say and assume you'll lose. That way if you DO lose, you're already in a head space to be okay with that, rather than feeling completely embarrassed and incompetent. Less pressure to win also puts you in a more relaxed state, so you can think more clearly.

I had to learn at least 20 for my advanced math class in 5th- I don’t know if anyone else had a program like that but if you were in it you’d go over for English and/or math and learn different stuff than everyone else. And every year on pi day there was a competition to see who could memorize the most digits. I think the record was 500?

I'm convinced he uses the same defense mechanism as I do. If you're not completely certain you'll succeed, say and assume you'll lose. That way if you DO lose, you're already in a head space to be okay with that, rather than feeling completely embarrassed and incompetent. Less pressure to win also puts you in a more relaxed state, so you can think more clearly.

We had a school comp but I only did 30.
I had to learn at least 20 for my advanced math class in 5th- I don’t know if anyone else had a program like that but if you were in it you’d go over for English and/or math and learn different stuff than everyone else. And every year on pi day there was a competition to see who could memorize the most digits. I think the record was 500?
One time I was bored in middle school so I memorized like the first 20 and gave up lol
I memorized 150 digits to win a pie in high school haha
All this tells me is that Ned is most likely the Guy who does most of the dirty/unsexy management stuff. I like all 4 Guys, but if I had to pick one to partner with in a business venture, I'd choose Ned. Here's the key to reciting pi as a party trick: after the first six or seven digits, 99% of people will not know if you're faking it.
