  • Ruggero Gerlin - about whom I know nothing - plays the Second Movement of Haydn's 'Sonata No. 19 in D major,' recorded in 1939.
I made this transfer from Anthologie Sonore 83.

Gerlin was mostly known as a harpsichordist: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruggero_Gerlin. (Wikipedia.it has a bit more information.)

Thank you so much! I have been rather quiet for the last few days, but I hope I will be less busy this week and that I will be able to upload more interesting recordings.

Thanks. Interesting. Is he using more pedal than we might use today? I can't entirely make out whether its that or the acoustic that is creating quite a soft & ringy effect. I think it's both. One senses that he feels affection for the music.

@@The-Organised-Pianist It's possibly both combined with the recording quality: the sound is rather recessed, hence the slightly greater than usual noise level from a very clean pressing.

@@vintagesounds3878 Thanks for explaining more. Any rate, the result is a pleasant & sincere-sounding performance.
