To be fair, the team behind No Man's Sky had lost the project on a flood and wanted to delay the release, but the publishers forced them not to. Since then they have updated the game with all the stuff they promised it would have.
I never really knew much about no man’s sky other than the memes. It’s good to hear that they redeemed it. No idea how many players it has right now though.
Definitely make a part 2 for sure. There's so many unique mods out there that deserve plenty of attention, but most just don't get any. I especially praise you for mentioning Doom Wars. Even if it likes to crash a lot.

I'm serious about this, the DOOM community is the best community for a video game I've ever seen, every mod that comes out is simply superb, it brings so much more life to the game, It makes it so I can play Doom all day every day without it being repetitive or tiring, and these mods are proof of that

Great list here! it's awesome that you mentioned ZDaemon City. IIRC, the concept for that one was somewhat based on an older and very similar mod for Zandronum called "Doom Center". You might be able to get that one to run natively more easily!
Correct, it's based on Doom Center! And Doom Center was based on ZDaemon Center. :). While I'm super flattered by the mention, it was never meant to be officially released as a Doom mod. It was more of a collection of assets and memes in the form of an open city for me and my friends to hang out in. A server still runs on ZDaemon if anybody wishes to check it out.
Good video though the bit about Eric Harris is wrong. While Eric did make maps for Doom, he never made a map replica of columbine. The map most sources claim that, UAC Labs, looks nothing like his school at all. This was all an unsubstantiated rumor formed from the fact that he made maps and name checked Doom in his journal. On a much lighter note, if you want a wad with an actual working motorcycle, Ashes 2063 has one. Check it out. It's pretty good.
I forgot to mention that the WAD in the video was made by another asshole and not Eric. Better still so people don’t download that disgusting map anyway.
An open world doom with the same engine would be immaculate. The game already looks visually pleasing, so I'd love to play out an entire story in an open world

Man, I'm sorry that you had to go through learning the controls in Reconquest, it was my first programming project and I could not program mouse interface then (NOW I can, but I don't have time for Doom...), but I see that you at least could go through couple of battles, neat!
One thing to note, I gave up on the mod once after thinking it was bugged long ago. If you can't pick up an item, it means you have to drop something to make room for more. Select an item with your inventory selector then press use item, when the text pops up then you hit zoom (drop) to drop inventory items. You can't drop them from the pda as far as I know, it's done in game. Just hit zoom twice to drop weapons. You can only carry a limited number of a specific weapon enhancer (3), and only 1 of the other special modules. This mod has over 200 weapons, it seems simple enough at first, but this is like an entirely new game. Here are some combos that feel like they were made for each other. The Goat combo: Ad Mortem maps DRLA weapons Enhanced Flashlight mod (some areas get a bit dark and the flashlight ads a nice ambience, I always use it) Healthbar Mod Damage Numbers mod For monsters use Project Malice (many rare spawns, SO MANY enemies, some rare variants are difficult fitting the roguelike aspect), or Shades of Doom for cosmetic changes having 400+ monsters, there is of course the drla monsters mod to. Maybe play it with the default Ad Mortem enemies first. Snes thematic combo: For a more lighthearted alternative, use all of the above but replace the maps with Super Mayhem (Super Mario World with the same polish, level design, and clever secrets) with the Colorful Hell monster mod (for the variety and matching visuals), it's a difficult monster mod, use lower difficulties and test it out a bit. Alternatively you can use combined arms with this same set up for more of a authentic snes feel, I recommend using Link because of his shield, it makes colorful hell a lot more methodical and fair and still has a bit of progression. The adventures of Square maps can work to. Metal Slug/Contra combo/R-Type: (Turns doom into an arcade type game.) Overboard (cyriak) Maps Iron Snail/Contra Doom/R-type (bydofied) weapons Iron Snail Enemies *Optional - For even more progression, use Gun Bonsai to upgrade guns and modify bullet types, gain unique perks, should be compatible with all of these. Might be overwhelming, try it without first, and once you get used to all the features then try adding it. I believe it takes away the special backpacks from drla, not a big deal.

Great video! I would like to see a Part 2 for this. That last mod reminded me that some guy on 4chan was making an Andy Sixx log mod for Doom. It looked good.
There is no school level from Eric Harris the modeled columbine high. The infamous hockey level is us taking a floor plan and trying to bring it to doom working around the engines limitations. The limitation of a man cannot stand above another man made any kind of second story impossible unless we somehow faked it. Our plan was to make each floor of a building it's own level and the player had yo complete floor by floor. The hardest part was aligning textures. Eric did all the layout and made majority of texture choices. I then took the level and aligned it adding in textures I liked as needed until looked as best I could.
HDoom is incredibly well made! The sprite work is fantastic and HDoomguy is a legend for continuing to work on this mod for so long. Proud to be a patreon honestly.
My friend is Eric Harris's cousin and he has the first copy of the columbine wads copied straight from the original hard drive. Chilling stuff to look at knowing what would happen.
If you make another one of these, make a joke/meme category. There's a lot of good joke wads that aren't Terry wads. For some examples, Endless Madness, banana factory accident, Wadthingy Ultimate (which those two were made for Br0leg's wad contest), Abort (which I don't know if Abort is even available anymore).
"fun" thing about the actual No Man's Sky... They actually lost a LOT of progress during a natural disaster, so what was rushed out the door (since people were getting impatient) was a very early prototype. Way later down the road they managed to make a finished product that exceeds initial expectations.

I've bet you haven't seen this one, but there's also an obscure genre in which is also Doom called Doom 1993, it's a first person shooter and was made by a group of passionate nerds, i strongly recommend it.
While watching, I was afraid Minidoom will be missed. Happy to see it's included. It is a masterpiece. I loved references to other games in Minidoom2 (Flak Cannon of UT99 for example).
For fun fact #3, a PhD biology student actually made Doom run on fluorescent bacteria for her thesis. The last mod reminded me of a mod for CS 1.6 that replaced the bomb with a turd and roll of toilet paper.

Our plan was to make each floor of a building it's own level and the player had yo complete floor by floor.
The hardest part was aligning textures. Eric did all the layout and made majority of texture choices. I then took the level and aligned it adding in textures I liked as needed until looked as best I could.

Isometric means the 3 axes appear to be at equal angles from each other on the 2d projection. So a 45 degree angle.

"fun" thing about the actual No Man's Sky... They actually lost a LOT of progress during a natural disaster, so what was rushed out the door (since people were getting impatient) was a very early prototype. Way later down the road they managed to make a finished product that exceeds initial expectations.

I've bet you haven't seen this one, but there's also an obscure genre in which is also Doom called Doom 1993, it's a first person shooter and was made by a group of passionate nerds, i strongly recommend it.
While watching, I was afraid Minidoom will be missed. Happy to see it's included. It is a masterpiece. I loved references to other games in Minidoom2 (Flak Cannon of UT99 for example).
