For me it's tactical doom, which i believe is by the person who made the original Alaln doom (which is insanely difficult btw, and project is basically it plus enemy changes and stuff), while tactical doom is a more traditional alaln doom.
Try out RedSpiral 93 and NightShift. Turns you into actual humans (one is a Japanese schoolgirl inspired by old RPG Maker horror games and one is a night guard.) Pair both with Project Malice. Also look at Dwelling Sin, which is literally Resident Evil Doom, and what's better is that it is **MONSTER PACK COMPATIBLE.**
Way back in the 90s someone modded Doom to be like the Aliens movie. It was in-fucking-credible how much atmosphere it had. Ammo was as scarce as it was in the movie. A face-hugger could come out of nowhere moving super fast so it would jump-scare you right when you REALLY needed to open fire. Sounds were spot on too with occasional radio voice overs like Sarge saying "... keep it tight, people..." That said, some of these look absolutely amazing so I'll definitely try to find a source port that can run them.
Oh yeah, I've played that TC, it's still around. It's sort of quaint now but it's super impressive that they did it in the 90s when there weren't really any easy to use modding tools.
Great job! Your shorts and full-length vids both strike a great balance with their level of detail. I was intrigued by the short, but I don't always love survival horror, so I didn't make the leap. But after watching this, I've got enough of an idea about how these feel that I'll be giving them all a try, but don't feel like much has been spoiled for me. Thanks! And please keep up the good work! The way the industry is going, I have little doubt that modding is the real future of gaming. So glad you're still making this content, it's sorely needed! The modding scene (except maybe for late Bethesda titles) gets next to no coverage despite being crucial to the health of gaming. Like do we really need any other talking PNGs to give us their opinions on the latest AAA releases? Nope. Once this channel gets a little more traction, I see it blowing up. A lot of people don't know they need modding content, because they barely know anything about modding. But with content like this to sell it to the masses, your content is going gold as soon as the algorithm decides to give you a hand. Build it, and they will come.
I got back to playing doom recently and this video was a treat haha. I'm enjoying playing again precisely because of the mods, they give the game a new life.
i love your channel so much! you find the absolute cream of the crop wads, that i would have never found otherwise. keep it up! I also really like the mini-review shorts you do too
Factotum is great for Resident Evil Gameplay, and adding the Bonsai Leveling tool makes the Gameplay feel more like Parasite Eve with both Mods combined. Bonsai makes the game easy so try tweaking the system more to your liking. I also suggest Dark Doom, Ambient Sounds, to add to the tension if you want Regular enemies still in game but with Horror Elements as well with any mod.
I would also add addon Something for Hideous Destructor. It adds monsters like in movie Something and since HD is hardcore allready it turns it into a real survival horror.
Can't wait to watch this later! One idea that would be interesting is covering some older 'classic' WADs/Mods lost to time, like stuff that was popular on the early internet. I recently rediscovered Legacy of Suffering and while it's not that old of course, It still looks great IMO! Edit: Great video btw, need to check out these mods!
I fucking love DOOM and it's community. The amount of ways you can transform this game is mindblowingly awesome. Not to mention the INSANE amounts of work people put into their mods to make them as polished and high-quality as possible. This is really a testament to this incredible community's limitless potential 🔥🔥🔥
surprised you didn't talk about the pinnacle of doom survival horror mods "total chaos" but i guess it's hard to even call total chaos doom at this point
@RastaManGames I remember playing the map-pack "Zero Brightness" alongside those mods I previously mentioned, adding Your flares and glowsticks addons in the mix :P (plus "Steve's flashlight"). It all worked soo damn well together!
I could also reccomend Harder Event. It's a somewhat Stalker'ish weapons mod made by TerminusEst13. You might know them for mods like Highway Acceleroid Booster.
When you started comparing Soundless Mound to Silent Hill, I couldn’t stop thinking about how the name “Soundless Mound” sounds like an Aldi’s attempt at naming an off-brand lmao
another great doom video that always surprises me with such impressive mods btw surprised you didn't talk about Behead The Undead 2 with Project Crypt (two survival horror standalone mods made by Large Hard in the style of AOM/COF) and Total Chaos (a standalone mod where it you have to scavenge for supplies like food, meds, items for crafting or weapons, etc. which is also getting a Unreal Engine remake/remaster)
My Friend of Misery - Metallica For Whom The Bell Tolls -Metallica Hail to the King - A7X If I remember correctly you used Lucretia (Megadeth) in your last vid. I love this shit!
Thanks for the recommendations! Btw, this may not need to be said, but the first two songs are Metallica covers. "My Friend of Misery" and "For Whom the Bell Tolls."
A cool one is Mortis. It's like 3D Faith. Where you have to get to the end of the level before you are overwhelmed by demons, which you can repel using your cross and a gun with one bullet.
I've got a few suggestions: - Happy Times Circus 2 (atmosphere is surperb) - Unloved 2 (incomplete but really atmospheric) - ROTGS aka Realm Of The Green Skull - The Ghoul's Forest series - Cold As Hell: Special Edition
lasting light its scary beyond belief. It doesnt matter wich wad you use on it and what maps you play. It can be the most meme map made out of shipost textures. but the second you put lasting light on top of it. it becomes horror incarnate.
Personally, I can recommend "Feet On The Ground" (that is evolved from "The Solider Z") & "Scavvers Paradise". These two has great looting mechanics, tons of weapons & etc. There is also "Lost Junker", but it is very unfair, unbalanced & unoptimized (as for me)...
Games like Project Alaln make me think the dev has never fired a gun before. Shooting a gun is not like having a seizure. Yes the gun kicks suddenly but it's not like an earth quake for god's sake. You're not left disoriented. The hard part about aiming is maintaining it and keeping it steady, not holding on for dear life. It's the small movements of your hands and arms that can ruin your aim. Even the motion of pulling the trigger can cause your aim to dip unless you practice it.
Two words Hideous Destructor Yeah, there might not be as many animations. But the depth of mechanics is amazing. And there is also an active modder community, which you can become a part of right now.
Hey Mutant, how the hell did you get your Live Through Doom to look and act like that? I downloaded it and looks nothing like it, none of the custom weapons are there either.
I still think Hideous Destructor + Ugly as Sin is the best "survival horror" doom mod experience, might not be the flashiest, but it's the most in-depth and customizable.
I wouldn't recommend Lasting Light. If anything, I'd recommend AGAINST it, solely due to the fact that it handles the whole darkness and flickering light terribly; specifically, yes, I know an oil lamp COULD be flickering much like that, but it doesn't help if you happen to have, oh, I don't know, *epilepsy* or something. I got a major migraine just trying to tolerate the first few seconds of it, and careful observation from around a god damn corner told me that yes, the *entire* thing is pretty much that. Screen flashing jump scares are obnoxious as hell to me, but it's the simplest, smallest thing like that lamp that would end up unironically putting me in a hospital before I knew what was happening to me.
The lasting light segment might need an epilepsy warning because of the lantern causing a strobing light effect. Lol dunno just thought that is worth mentioning.
Wow what are the first few maps presented with ALALN ? I think the first one is only a darkened vanilla map but not sure. The second one where you fight a black-boned revenant and the one where you kill a monster with the knife among rivers of blood don't ring a bell though ! If you do have a list of the maps you ran this mod with for the video I'd love it :) If not that's perfectly ok as well ! The mod looks quite great honestly and I'll probably give it a go.
wish there could be horror mods specifically for doom 3, being the only doom game imo that did and could mainly pull off a more horror game approach. other than that, dooms too badass to be considerably scary.
Doom is one of the most fun modding experiences around. So many possible sub-genres that you can put together, it's crazy.
Golden Souls made me realize doom could be any genre
All thanks to the chads at og id for open sourcing it. They secured Doom's future forever.
@I Dream of Indie Games too Dont know. They might exist or might one day exist.
For me the best survival horror mod is Scavver's Paradise. The variety of weapons, enemies, items and weight system work very well.
For me it's tactical doom, which i believe is by the person who made the original Alaln doom (which is insanely difficult btw, and project is basically it plus enemy changes and stuff), while tactical doom is a more traditional alaln doom.

I love the 8bit Metallica BGM for the video. Great mod showcases. Don't even play GZ doom but u make compelling lists for these videos!
"Nightmare Logic" is another pretty well made and fun survival mod. Works especially well with the "Project Malice" monster replacement mod.
