I just want to bring to your notice that I graduated from IIT and all the options that you mentioned above like minor, major or dual major were available to us as well! Even we had great amount of flexibility to choose our coursework! For example, my major was Chemical Engineering and I took ton of courses and short courses from Humanities, Entrepreneurship and Computer science! And most importantly not everyone gets into IITs, so, it may not be a choice for them! Therefore, I think B.Tech from IITs is still a better choice than non-Ivy league!

I don't think something like this can work in India. Because we don't have single campus University. Like for example take University of Delhi. It has 50 colleges spread across entire City. Now say I want to major in Journalism but I also want to study Economics and Accountancy. But most probably College offering journalism won't have any course offering accounts.

I'm not sure but there's something called transfer admission... Also you have to take GRE for that. Search about transfer admission I think that will help you. But going directly to 3rd year in US college will whole lot difficult cuz its all practical in 3rd yr.

It's absolutely possible, you can either take a loam it if you have good grades, you can get sponsored by the college, or you can tell your parents to sponsor you for the first year, and then you can manage it yourself afterwards
