For anyone who’s watching this, he talks about adding a “silent strike beater“ for the kick drum so it won’t make too much noise if you have neighbors below you. Alesis seems to have taken care of this because I just got this kit in the mail from Sweetwater today, I’ll be using it only as a midi controller for all of the actual drum samples in logic pro 10, and I was surprised that it came with a beater that was plastic but had “felt” on one side. Hi Justin like watching you play drums on the alesis nitro drum kit. I am looking at buying the alesis nitro kit never played before is it worth getting it and could you give me a heads up please.
I'm using a Alesis bass drum, snare, and 1 cymbol. Rest is Roland. I have a TD 25. Pretty sweet, I keep hearing about EZ Drummer, think ima do sum research and see what it is, couldn't tell ya what a patch is or how to use it.
Hey your comment is about a year old, did you end up messing with EZ Drummer? I wanna get it but feel a bit intimated by it, especially because i see people that have latency issues and stuff with it, which im sure can be easily fixed but i would just wanna know if i can avoid those problems all together if possible
Where can I find the video or information about the drum riser platform to minimize noise to the floor and thus avoid annoying my downstairs neighbors? Any other suggestions or links to tips to better handle or avoid this problem?
I am looking to buy an Electronic drum... do you recommend this for beginner... i am starting from Zero and don't even know if i would be using it after some time... thank you in advance
I couldn't deal with 8-inch pads, so I bought 3 12inch MKII pro pads and 3 10inch ones from the factory, and the 8-inch mesh kick with double bass, the Strike 12 amp. and 12 14 16 inch dual-zone cymbals, and 2 small chinas. I put the 12-inch snare on a stand and the other TOM 4 on a snare stand with a 12 inch on the other side of the high hat..all I wanna do know is buy a COMMAND rack, I'm in a band and I would never put a NItro on stage
Hey, sorry if you've already answered this - I scrolled through comments for a while but didn't see anyone else ask. What is the setting you have at 5:35? Thanks!
Hey I recently got an Alesis nitro mesh kit. And i wanted to know if it's possible to connect a usb midi, footswitch or sustain pedal into the extra midi ports (tom 4, crash 2).
You can plug in just about any trigger into it. You just can't really predict how accurately it will trigger with a different brand, since Alesis modules offer very little trigger adjustments in the module.
I'm telling save another 200-400 $ and get the command mesh or command x mesh, so worth it, I have the X. This kit is decent no doubt, but the command is legit, I play double bass death metal on it and it works good. Cant tell you more if your interested in this kit here save and get the command you will not regret it I guarantee.
Do you think if I used a Kat Silent Strike along with a “kick-only” sound isolation board (not under the whole kit) it would still greatly reduce the vibration and thumping to my neighbors?
Hey, I’m thinking about picking up this kit for myself. How do the cymbals feel? Do they feel close to normal cymbals? And how do ghost notes feel when you play them, is it just like a normal snare?
You are really good on the drums, bro! Do you think this will be a good practice kit? I just bought a used yamaha dtx532k for super cheap but even with 3 zone hi hats and a moving hi hat on a stand didn't do it for me. It is kind of loud and clunky. I was thinking of purchasing this nitro kit since it has all mesh pads. I know the stock sounds won't sound as good as the yamaha but it still looks like a killer set for the price and playability.
@@demonicsweaters definitely has good sounds. They seem popular but I do not like them. Just the way they feel. I had a roland td11kv a few years ago and they were much better than the dtx532k. Thanks for your comment!
Hello friend can I ask you a question>? Im wondering if I can use this drums to record songs in multitrack way/ Because I need the each sound for separate . thanks a lot
Have you had any issues with the hi hat control pedal? I just got my kit, hooked it up, and everything works properly but the hi hat control pedal. Adjusting the sensitivity doesnt make a difference. Sometimes it shorts out or plays the open hi hat sound when im trying to play the closing hi hat sound, or just doesn't read at all. Really need to know if That's a common problem and if replacing the pedal will make any difference.
Hi do you have any issues with the rim depth, I’ve heard from other users that this can get in the way a bit. I’m keen on getting this kit but the rims seem high = thoughts ? Thanks
Great video! I have one issue and I've scoured the internet and no luck: I can't get my crash to choke. It's definitely the cymbal with crash so I know it's not a hardware issue. I've tried resetting to factory (which was one of the tips I found in another forum). I'm grabbing the cymbal at the edge with the "dots." Any ideas??
Hey, Thank you for taking the time to post this review. I have recently been on the cusp of buying one of these but I couple of reviews regarding the hi-hat pedal not working with VSTs such as ez drummer and superior drummer. I believe the issue is that there's no compatible open or close with the pedal - it defaults to open in the programs. I'm looking fot a kit like this, affordable and reliable, but those reviews planted a seed of doubt. Are these issues something you're aware of when using this via midi output? I have plenty of alesis recording equipment and I like the company a lot. Just this issue about Vst compatibility is bugging me. Any information on that will decide whether I'll take the punt. Thanks again and all best. Great drumming!
I haven’t tried it yet with ezdrummer, but that doesn’t really make sense. You can change any drum and foot controller to any midi channel you like, so there has to be a way. I have it working fine in GarageBand and Ableton, and even using SF2 files in Linux. I made videos on all of those.
can i apply different sounds to the set? like uploading shit into the Alesis system? (sorry i didn't even bother to check the specs of this set properly) thanks
If you have a laptop you can purchase EZdrummer 2 a connect it through usb as a midi. Drum sound better than stock Alesis nitro kit sounds and it’s expandable.
Hi, I am 42 and discovered drumming 3 weeks ago. Is the sound I am hearing through you tube what you are getting through your headphones or is it what the neighbours would be hearing? New to all this.
tru obalanga it’s the line out directly from the module plugged into my computer. Unless you’re wearing headphones or have the drums plugged into something, you’ll only hear the tapping in the surface of the pads, no drum sounds.
@@demonicsweaters So I could hook them into my KRK Rokits and hear the drums in my studio? I'm a guitarist who would like to get a set so my buddy, who is a drummer, can come over for jams. I would also like to learn some basics myself. This is my first time looking into electronic drums so I'm a little clueless on how they work haha.
I think I know what you're talking about, but I never use the standard kits, only my custom ones. I actually think it is supposed to do that though. It changes depending on how hard you hit it.
Well, how much money do you want to spend? If under $500 Alesis Nitro, under $1000 Surge, if Over $1000 Roland TD-17KV. You could also check out the channel 65drums for extensive electronic drums reviews and info. He's also named Justin, but his channel is 100% e-drums.
@@demonicsweaters Budget wise I'm probably going to stick to a $500 - $700 dollar range. I've always wanted to learn to play and now that I live in my own place I can finally make that happen. Thanks for the response and for uploading this video. Including the mods you made for your neighbors. I'll go check out his channel as well. Thank you!
Then the Alesis Surge might be a good choice, or the Nitro. If you live somewhere you can make more noise, I recommend acoustic drums over electronic ones 100% of the time.
Stupid question but I have never owned one of these before, but can you change what each pedal is (for example, changing both pedals to double kick instead of hats and kick)?
@@demonicsweaters Cool! Really thinking about getting one since my place is small but I've always played a traditional drum set. Your videos are definitely convincing me. Subscribed too.
Hello, I just purchase the nitro mesh kit just by watching your review. I also bought and expansion cymbal. I have a question. I saw on your expansion video that you were eventually able to use on of the toms as a ride and tom at the same time. Can you explain how you did that? I usually play metal and I would like to get this kit as close to a metal style drum kit. I was hoping you can also give me any extra tips. Also, the double bass drum feature looks really helpful. Thank you
I switched my snare pad with the tom 2 pad, then mapped the rim to a ride. If you want to use a real double kick pedal, I suggest getting a larger pad, or reprogramming the hi hat pedal to a kick.
@@demonicsweaters Thanks for the tip. Idk if there is a way for you to show how I can replace both the snare for tom 2 so I can get that feel of the ride and tom with the snare also since I dont do rim shots for snare. Also, I will change the hi hat pedal for the bass drum so I can do double bass playing. You mentioned that leaving the hi hat open was triggering weird idk if you could explain that since I most of the time use it open or is there a selection where it plays fine. Thank you
@@jrm2992 My guess is that you leave the wiring the same but put the snare pad where tom 2 is and the tom 2 pad where the snare is, then reprogram the tom 2 pad to a snare sound, the snare to the tom 2 sound and the snare rim to a ride sound. So basically, swap the two pads physical locations and reprogram the sounds leaving all wiring as is. I hope I have explained this clearly enough. I haven't got one of these yet but this is the method I will try when I do get one.
Is there a way you can make two crash, three Tom and no ride? I realized the pad calls that one cymbal ride, and I wanted to know if you can do two crash and normal rest of the setup. Thanks.
*DEFINITIELY.* Compared to many other electronic drums out there, for $379 and all the features and 385 sounds that come out of it, I can tell you that this is an amazing drum kit for you, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced drummer.
Anyone know how to properly set up the snare? it moves, it is angled away from me, I cant stop hitting rim shots, it's really getting to me, I've had this kit for 4 years now and cant seem to remember how the hell to get it to work right!
I am torn between getting the the Nitro Mesh kit versus the Turbo Mesh kit. They both look great and have been fiending to play drums again since I moved to a smaller apartment and had to put my acoustic drums in storage.
I might be wrong but I dont think the turbo has the tower for your bass drum. (My terminology may be wrong there?) I'm going for the nitro because I want to use my own double bass pedal rather than buying a fancy electric specifically for that kit :)
I'm really eager to start drumming, I have this crazy passion which was born in the last few months and I want to get this kit. However, I know nothing about drumming, nor the right terminology. Is it too late for me to start, I'm 20?
Not too late at all! You're still very young :) However, if at all possible for you to be loud and play an acoustic kit, I HIGHLY recommend learning on real drums. Electronic drums are okay for practice sure, but honestly they'll never compare to the real thing. If it's the only option you have (my case at the moment) then get an e-drum kit. But I'd still at least find a rehearsal space or something that will let you play at least an hour or so every couple weeks on a real kit. The amount of enjoyment you get out of real drums is so much greater.
I played when I was 13-15 and for some reason just stopped. I just started playing again at age 20 and I'm still learning new stuff every day. Get into it homie
One question. If I want to play along with music with my headset on, Can I combine the music I playing with at the same time the sounds of the drums through the same headset?
Yes, there's an input where you can plug your music into and play along to on the drums, it'll play right through your headphones along with the drum sounds.
I’m looking into buying one and was wondering if the output signal (USB) is split into individual channels or only into one track? I’m working with reaper as my DAW, anybody can answer this question? And also, does it sound good in a small live jam session with a guitarist juste for fun in a basement ? Thanks 😊

I put the 12-inch snare on a stand and the other TOM 4 on a snare stand with a 12 inch on the other side of the high hat..all I wanna do know is buy a COMMAND rack, I'm in a band and I would never put a NItro on stage
the MOD is amazing though and the rims
Hey, sorry if you've already answered this - I scrolled through comments for a while but didn't see anyone else ask. What is the setting you have at 5:35? Thanks!
Hey I recently got an Alesis nitro mesh kit. And i wanted to know if it's possible to connect a usb midi, footswitch or sustain pedal into the extra midi ports (tom 4, crash 2).
Great video I was wondering if they make a bigger snare for this as it’s rather small compared to the 12 or 14 inch snare on other kits?
I'm not sure. But yes the kick is where most of the noise comes from
I have watched all these videos and ordered this kit . Its not coming til August apparently they are backordered .. sigh ..
aw, that sucks. Well August isn't too far off.
Hey, I’m thinking about picking up this kit for myself. How do the cymbals feel? Do they feel close to normal cymbals? And how do ghost notes feel when you play them, is it just like a normal snare?
Do you if you can add a double kick to it? My guitarist bought one for our drummer this week.
Is there built in effects like reverb for example?
Best demo ever
2 things. Can you cross stick on the snare? And can you choke on the crash?
You are really good on the drums, bro! Do you think this will be a good practice kit? I just bought a used yamaha dtx532k for super cheap but even with 3 zone hi hats and a moving hi hat on a stand didn't do it for me. It is kind of loud and clunky. I was thinking of purchasing this nitro kit since it has all mesh pads. I know the stock sounds won't sound as good as the yamaha but it still looks like a killer set for the price and playability.
Yeah, they're great for everyone, but honestly the tdx532k is a pretty nice kit. I know there's no mesh toms, but they're pretty solid drums.
Nope
Hello, I'm thinking about buying this set for my 8 year old son. Would you recommend this set for a beginner?
Yes, absolutely!
Thanks for the quick reply!!!
Where can i find that video, that You said, about minimizing the sound to the floor? Please?
Have you had any issues with the hi hat control pedal? I just got my kit, hooked it up, and everything works properly but the hi hat control pedal. Adjusting the sensitivity doesnt make a difference. Sometimes it shorts out or plays the open hi hat sound when im trying to play the closing hi hat sound, or just doesn't read at all. Really need to know if That's a common problem and if replacing the pedal will make any difference.
righteousrat I have not had this issue
Hi do you have any issues with the rim depth, I’ve heard from other users that this can get in the way a bit. I’m keen on getting this kit but the rims seem high = thoughts ? Thanks
it never bothered me
Great video!
Probably a defective trigger, contact Alesis
Bro
🙄
1. Will it support cross stick ?
2. Can we use this kit for live performance ?
Wait did you plug in the second Tom as a ride?
Will the Silent Strike beater work with the DPD Double kick pedal? Will they fit side by side?
yeah, they do! I have them on mine now!
Can headphones be attached by this kit because i m thinking to buy this kit and i also want feedbacks from many people....
yes, it has a headphone output
that 4:05 - 4:8 run was nice !
Thanks!
How does it hold up to double bass technique? Does the bass drum module have trouble with it?
not good, pad is too small
Hey,
Thank you for taking the time to post this review.
(sorry i didn't even bother to check the specs of this set properly)
thanks
No unfortunately you can’t do that. You can however use the usb out to control sounds on your computer or iPhone. See my other vids!
If you have a laptop you can purchase EZdrummer 2 a connect it through usb as a midi. Drum sound better than stock Alesis nitro kit sounds and it’s expandable.
I’ve been thinking of ripping out the triggers from this kit and moving them over to an acoustic set. Let’s see what happens haha
Don’t do that, you’re better off getting some redshots for $100 for the 5 pack
I have this kit and on drum set #11 the 1st tom goes up and down in pitch. Do you have this same but slight problem with yours?
I think I know what you're talking about, but I never use the standard kits, only my custom ones. I actually think it is supposed to do that though. It changes depending on how hard you hit it.
Hi where is the manual download for the nitro brain thanks
How did you change tom 2 to the Ride cymbal and the Ride cymbal to a second crash?
How do you get rid of the hight hat taping noise it's extremely annoying
Real good talent!! Can you send the cymbal choke on the Alesis Nitro Mesh?
Can you send it?
Does the silent beater wear out the
bass drum pad faster? I want to make it quieter but I’m slightly concerned about the longevity of it.
the bass drum pad isn't mesh, it's rubber, but I really can't say if it wears it more or not. I've been using mine for a year about, and it's fine.
Good to know, thanks! Love your videos
Can you hook up a full high hat adjustable kind and be fully functional to the nitro module
It'll work, but you won't get any more variation in sounds. The Nitro module only makes 3 hi hat sounds, closed, half open and open.
the snare is to small 8" can i get a 10" retrofit . will the Alesis 10" snare be compatible with my nitro mesh kit
All dual Piezo snares will work.
Just stumbled across your channel and I was wondering what electric kit you would recommend for a beginner?
It's not a stupid question, and yes you can. I made a video about that. See my Nitro Mesh Playlist!
Thanks.
Just reprogram the ride cymbal to a crash sound in the setup. Any pad can be programmed to any sound withing the kit.
I have this set, but the snare for some reason keeps falling out of the socket. Is there any way to counter this? Or do I need to play lighter😅
hmm, I never had that problem. Make sure you're getting it in there all the way and tightening it.
do these track where you hit on the pad? like can i midi learn different samples based on whether you hit the middle of pad or off center?
no, but I suppose you could do two different samples on the snare since it's dual zone.
What would be a good beginner amp to buy for this set? Just for someone playing at home.
I don't personally use an amp, but I've read good things about this Kat Percussion one amzn.to/2DM3ekW
Demonic Sweaters thank you! I appreciate it!
@@demonicsweaters do you use a normal speaker then? How do you hear what you play without headphones?
@@bensaunders2255 I never play without headphones
Thinking about ordering these to finally pursue my dream of learning drums, are they worth the price ??
*DEFINITIELY.* Compared to many other electronic drums out there, for $379 and all the features and 385 sounds that come out of it, I can tell you that this is an amazing drum kit for you, whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced drummer.
Josh :D what all do i need besides what the $379 gets me
Anyone know how to properly set up the snare? it moves, it is angled away from me, I cant stop hitting rim shots, it's really getting to me, I've had this kit for 4 years now and cant seem to remember how the hell to get it to work right!
Not too late at all. Never too late to learn anything man.
Guitarist here, not a drummer, but it's never too late.
One question. If I want to play along with music with my headset on, Can I combine the music I playing with at the same time the sounds of the drums through the same headset?
Yes, there's an input where you can plug your music into and play along to on the drums, it'll play right through your headphones along with the drum sounds.
I’m getting one ☝️
I’m looking into buying one and was wondering if the output signal (USB) is split into individual channels or only into one track? I’m working with reaper as my DAW, anybody can answer this question? And also, does it sound good in a small live jam session with a guitarist juste for fun in a basement ? Thanks 😊
Neither, it sends midi out, not audio. I don't use mine live.
