Hossa was a good player. He helped three teams in three years reach the Cup Finals, and let's not forget he was the only player in Thrashers history to score 100 points in a season, not to mention he captained them to their only playoff appearance ever. I'm a Pens fan, and it was nice to gawk at this in '09 when they beat him, but he should be remembered as one of the NHL's best journeymen of the modern era.
Coming from a PENS FAN I don't really blame Hossa. I would have done the same thing. But the irony was absolutely hilarious. I'm glad he won a Cup with Chicago because that means Philly didn't win it and I'm OK with that.
danblaze.I have been watching hockey simce I was 7.My brother [played and we went everywhere that had a rink.Vancouver toEdina to Toronto to Boston.Everyrink around Chicago.I always knew Hossa was good but until you see him play game after game you can not appreciate how wonderful he is.Strong on his skates.Great defensive 2 way player.Oh and that wicked wrister. It is a joy to be able to watch such a total class act off the ice also.
Lance Steelflex I felt the exact same about Ovechkin after the Caps got bounced by the pens for the 2nd year in a row and now I have a playoff run and championship memory that will probably never be surpassed because of how it all went down and all the suffering (a good chunk of that misery being caused by your squad 😂) that lead us there. Keep the faith.
I was happy for Hossa when he won it with Chicago. Year before, I was bitter as all hell he left the Pens for Detroit but we won it over him so bygones. Grats Hoss
i think he was replying to all those people claiming that the Hoss just kept switching teams to who he thought was gonna win the cup that year because he was just a "cup chaser" not a team player. and he was defending him saying that if that were the case he wouldn't have signed a 12 year deal with 1 team
Pittsburgh offered him a 5-year deal reportedly worth an average of $7M/year. That's $35M over 5 years with a cup contender. He opted for the 1 year deal with the Red Wings ($7.45M) because he thought they had a better chance. Patience would have been staying in Pittsburgh instead of burning that bridge and then playing for 2 more teams.
@MBoggles I comprehend it just fine. You're just wrong. He didn't give up or decide he didn't belong in hockey. He persevered and found a team where he could fit in and be instrumental. Pittsburgh didn't need another Crosby or Malkin, and he damn sure wasn't reaching his potential on Detroit's third line. So he moved on. I'm a diehard Wings fan and it's not like I bear him any ill will. Dude did what he had to do, and he didn't give up. Props to him.
Though I do agree with you partially, Pittsburgh did offer him a long-term contract. He didn't feel Pittsburgh could win a cup, so when he was offered a 1-year deal with Detroit he accepted. I see why he would have accepted Detroit, although it didn't turn out I think it was a good move for him at the time. Besides Pittsburgh got the better end of the Hossa trade locking in Pascal Dupuis.
@TiredVigilante Perservance, skilled, driven, smart unrelenting, accomplished and victorious are all words to describe Hossa. Patient is not. Chicago was his 4th team in 4 years. Patient would be accepting the 5 year contract in 2008 from the Penguins and trying again. He was 31 when he won. It wasn't like he was 40 and gave it one last shot. He's going to continue to be a star in the NHL for years and could win another time. He's a fantastic player, but I'm not wrong on calling him impatient.
@AyeYuMadBrah Not to discount any of your points, and I'm sure someone else has already said this but, Pittsburgh did give Hossa a substantial offer. If i remember correctly it was similar to the one James Neal just received, only worth more money. The truly unfortunate thing (for me as a Pens fan) is that Hossa left partially because of then Pens coach Therrien, who would obviously be fired midway through the next season.
@MBoggles I'm pretty sure he's gonna stay in Chicago for a while. This guys a fuckign sniper and is real comfortable with the Kane and Toews line and has so much chemistry with them
@sparty801 Bourque played his whole career in Boston and never got a cup. He requested a trade to chase the cup toward the end of his career depite his willingness to re-sign with Boston without any lengthy or complicated negotiations. That's not impatient, that's loyalty. He earned his right to chase the cup from Boston and if he did abandon the city then why does Boston not hate him?
@sparty801 It's the exact opposite of being patient. Being patient would be staying with the same team and trying to win. Being impatient is going to a new team every single year until you win. He is very talented, and deserved to win, but he is in no way patient.
I don't think it was that he didn't take the deal it was the WAY he did it. Like, "I think Detroit will win, so I'm going there." Kind of implying that his old team sucked. It would have been better to say something like, "I don't feel like being tied down to a long-term contract at this time, blah blah blah, we couldn't come to certain agreements, yada yada yada," or whatever. The comments he made are what left a bad taste in peoples' mouths. But then, he got pwn3d, we won, and then he won the NEXT year, so it's all over now. (It's like, if you're going to be a Cup chaser, that's fine, but don't be a dick about it.)
I don't really give a shit about Hossa anymore, but he WAS offered an extended deal with Pittsburgh (a pretty sweet one, from what I believe), and rejected it. (The Oilers offered up an even better one, I think) However, it's over and done with, and the guy got pwn3d. It's been 4 years since, and I no longer care. Obviously it worked out better for everyone. (And Pens fans who rooted for the FLYERS because they hated Hossa so much should be ashamed!)
old comment i know but Hossa walked out on Pittsburgh just so you know, Here's what he said "It was a really tough decision for me to make,'' Hossa told the Canadian Press. "When I compared the two teams, I felt like I would have a little better of a chance to win the Cup in Detroit." Next time get your facts straight.
@sparty801 Hossa? patient? are you kidding me? Do you have any idea what qualifies as "a long time" in the NHL? Playing in three consecutive stanley cup finals with three different teams doesn't make you patient. Hell if anything it makes you impatient! the only person who can ever be considered patient is Ray Bourque! He did 1,612 regular season and 214 playoff games before he got his cup.
Pittsburgh offered hosa an extension. In order to do that they let Ryan Malone go to clear up enough space and hosa waited til the last minute to pick Detroit. Total prick.
Marian really disappointed me. I was a big fan when he was a Portland Winterhawk and so proud of him going on to the NHL. When he joined Pittsburgh, I was thrilled. Then he jumped ship for his own selfish want of a cup, abandoning the Pens... who won it without him. I laughed my ass off. Karma baby!
Is being a cup chaser really that bad of a thing? People always criticize players for taking the money to play with bottom feeders, but then turn around and say they're not allowed to choose a team strictly to win a cup either. I know it doesn't seem very "loyal" to his previous teams, but at least he was hungry for the most important thing in the sport. In any case the wings and penguins weren't willing to sign him to reasonable terms anyways.
@sparty801 Hossa is a good player no doubt But to describe him as patient is ridiculous. What your describing about Hossa is not patience, its perserverence and steadfastness even in the face of obstacles, difficulties and discouragement. And that I will give him.
Hahaha yes. Jagr already has 2 cups anyway. so yes, he can kiss my ass as well. I'm hoping he retires soon though so that we can finally forgive him and remember him as a legendary penguin.
how does that make a guy selfish? its not like he left the team that brought him up to do this. he left a team that he played ONE SEASON for to go to chicago. and before that, he didnt even play a full year with pittsburgh! why would he stay? he doesnt need to be "loyal" to a team that just got him on a one year deal
Here is what happened.....Marian Hossa did the noble thing: turned DOWN the money for a chance to win. We here in Pittsburgh dont hold anything against him for that. We just felt that it was an insult to our team, who was 2 wins away from that goal. It all worked out in the end though. we won the cup in 09, and HE won ii a year later.
How is it patience when he changes teams each year for three straight years until he wins? If he stayed with one team for a while and then won, I'd understand the word. In this case, it makes no sense.
hahaha i cant believe he made the finals, 3 years in a row. 3 different teams. unbelievable
Will likely never happen again in the NHL.
@@MScorpioM Patrick maroon has won the last 3 cups one with the blues two with lightning
Well Corey Perry is on the verge of losing 3 straight finals with 3 different teams
@@edwardioanciocirlan1489 couldn't happen to a worse person
I think the Ray Borque story fit well for "Patience"
Hossa was a good player. He helped three teams in three years reach the Cup Finals, and let's not forget he was the only player in Thrashers history to score 100 points in a season, not to mention he captained them to their only playoff appearance ever. lol now he has 3
Definitely one of the best two way Snipers in the history of the game.
Coming from a PENS FAN I don't really blame Hossa. I would have done the same thing. But the irony was absolutely hilarious. I'm glad he won a Cup with Chicago because that means Philly didn't win it and I'm OK with that.
Plus not signing him gave us more capspace and we were able to keep Dupuis, which worked out for us in the long run.
danblaze.I have been watching hockey simce I was 7.My brother [played and we went everywhere that had a rink.Vancouver toEdina to Toronto to Boston.Everyrink around Chicago.I always knew Hossa was good but until you see him play game after game you can not appreciate how wonderful he is.Strong on his skates.Great defensive 2 way player.Oh and that wicked wrister. It is a joy to be able to watch such a total class act off the ice also.
Dude this video is so well done, this should be an actual one for TV, great job man.
This is perfect for Henrik Lundqvist!! Sooner or later baby he's going to get it!!!
+Mike C lol nope
+PLB051080 time will tell
Don't tale this the wrong way
Im a rangers fan but I'd rather see him get traded and win a cup then stay with us and get no cup
Jacob T nope
I have chills
I fucking love Marian Hossa. So glad he's here in Chicago.
I was happy for Hossa when he won it with Chicago. Year before, I was bitter as all hell he left the Pens for Detroit but we won it over him so bygones. Grats Hoss
What an amazing story
my hero ---- marian hossa
one of the better ones including the NHL's, good job buds
I have lots of respect for him

awsome vid buddy
NOW 500 !!!!!!!!!

Today he has 3 cups ;)
And now he'd have 3 cups if he'd stayed in Pittsburgh ;)
Adam Grasinger doubt it cause the pens wouldn't have had cap for the key players they have today
Great vid great vid
@kevynnwtf Hossa is a small village in Finland :D
@MBoggles

Goin to be hell of a cup

stop hating on hossa he kicks ass
Not a huge fan of Hossa, but I do love seeing the goal celebration in the Chicago Jersey
He won it will this best hockey team you can play for
don't forget all of his contracts were 1 year with DET and PIT
@TiredVigilante Perservance, skilled, driven, smart unrelenting, accomplished and victorious are all words to describe Hossa. Patient is not. Chicago was his 4th team in 4 years. @akl3g how may years he sign 4?
@IDF1987 He knew he would win one on that stacked team.
how'd that work out?
@SBUXIronChef I was wondering myself. Can't seem to get an answer from anyone
i was happy to see hime get a cup i dont get why no one likes him
@sparty801 It's the exact opposite of being patient. Being patient would be staying with the same team and trying to win. Being impatient is going to a new team every single year until you win. He is very talented, and deserved to win, but he is in no way patient.
...Jerkoff!
What the hell are you talking about? Pittsburgh offered him a five-year contract for 7 mil.
Oh the irony lol Hossa looks sick in a pens jersey
The only person this commercial is appropriate for is Ray Bourque.
Hossa pulled the original Kevin durant
What if Hossa's stick missed Berard's eye?
@IDF1987 if i was a cup chaser i would sign 12 years with the hawks....
congrats hossa. ik i am 1 yr late. -_-'
that's why he right? won it after that
If he was a cup chaser, he wouldn't have signed for 12 years with the Hawks.
I don't think it was that he didn't take the deal it was the WAY he did it. Like, "I think Detroit will win, so I'm going there." Kind of implying that his old team sucked. @AyeYuMadBrah Pittsburgh offered him a 7 year $49 Million dollar offer. Do your research!
after he won the cup...
Pittsburgh offered him a 7 year $49 Mil contract....he declined!!!!
@donnie1979hot YOU GOT IT !!

third times a charm XD

"When I compared the two teams, I felt like I would have a little better of a chance to win the Cup in Detroit." Next time get your facts straight.
Poor Hossa took him only 3 straight cups to get one... meanwhile the guy whose promising career he ruined by destroying his eye, forget that I guess
@sparty801 Hossa? patient? are you kidding me? Do you have any idea what qualifies as "a long time" in the NHL? ya know people calling a guy selfish because he DIDN'T GET RESIGNED is absolute bs
@xDanglesx But Hossa has a ring unlike Lebron.
Pittsburgh offered hosa an extension. In order to do that they let Ryan Malone go to clear up enough space and hosa waited til the last minute to pick Detroit. Total prick.
400 goals and and top 2 way player. He is far from a selfish player .Before making a fool of yourself donnie maybe you need to watch him play
@donnie1979hot he's no selfish hes a grea guy thatd be like calling lanny mcdonald selfish or even worse ray bourque
hey hey hey how about joe thornton huh? hes patient :P
@donnie1979hot not selfish...do you just want to play a sport and not win? i dont think so.
@donnie1979hot Yeah like none of the other NHLers are chasing the cup lol get a clue
@dodokid33
He better be for a long time to come. Sharks suck ass in the playoffs
Marian really disappointed me. I was a big fan when he was a Portland Winterhawk and so proud of him going on to the NHL. When he joined Pittsburgh, I was thrilled. Weird seeing Hossa in that ugly pens jersey glad the Hawks have him now

Hossa basically just used Detroit to get to the cup and it backfired. I couldn't believe it when he won it in Chicago. He didn't deserve it.
I DONT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT HOSSA & HAWKS! GGGOOOO BBBRRRUUUIIIIINNNNSSSSS!!!!
and isn't the point of the nhl is to win the cup? Everyone should be a cup chaser or your not playing the game correctly.
How is it patience when he changes teams each year for three straight years until he wins? If he stayed with one team for a while and then won, I'd understand the word. In this case, it makes no sense.
hated him since he was a senator ughhh
