It was absolutely my pleasure. Thanks for watching.
You are a fantastic host Janice🥰 Ur own experience in fundamentalism has given u a very specific perspective on Gilead. and you are always filled with deep insights on the human experience. ❣ That excellent work of fiction is too dangerously close to reality for too many trapped in high control religious communities all over the world. I'm so glad that people are finding the way out, and finding help at cort💖❣

In the ascent out of the Dark Age the church was draconian. The fear was the occult; the dark occult, which at that time had an opportunity and an opening to go mainstream. Even St. Teresa had to defend herself before her bishop and blame her woman’s mind and a weak heart as an explanation of her trances which if misinterpreted could have her burned at the stake. I have heard of encounters with some dark occultists which still exists even now. It does not go away entirely. The idea of its being mainstream is horrific. So the Church was draconian at a vulnerable time in the psychic evolution of the western mind prior to the Age of Reason. Ms. Atwood doesn’t address this and may not know about it. That said, imposing religious belief today when we are in The Age of Reason is horrific, also free will is a given. Ms. Atwood is absolutely right about that. Human behavior cannot be controlled except by laws that the majority, if not all, agrees on.
Interesting reflection. Thanks for watching and sharing.
Handmaids Tale, 1984, Scientology, Jehovas, fundamentalist Islam and Christianity... will mankind progress beyond these nightmares to a world of equality and science and justice or will we descend to a 6th century tribal warfare mentality?
I hate to say it but my money is on option #2
Great question! Thanks for watching.

Hutterite communes have been going for 500 years. Plenty of practical skills. Attractive? I guess so for their adherents and followers.
