This music is better than perfect. It's performed by young people who aren't jaded by life yet. Gustavo Dudamel is quite possibly the best conductor in the world now. He brings the enthusiasm, beauty, and passion of The Americas in his conducting. Nosotros conocemos su pasión. Así es la belleza y pasión de las Américas. It's a beautiful thing to see and hear.
Absolutement! d'accord. Ce jeune homme ...... un génie! He understands EVERYTHING from Bernstein..... FAR better than Bernstein, to Mahler It is impeccable. Still needs to work on his Beethoven, but I forgive him. (je ris!) After all he is still young. WHAT a gifted artist! Ich liebe die Art, wie er zeichnet die besten Talente aus der Jugend! love....love....love....
The people here are actually not youths anymore. When the orchestra was first formed (Around the 80s-90s), it was definitely a youth orchestra. But by the time this recording came about, most of the people here are 18+ (in fact I think the oldest was 28 years old). Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this performace took place on December 2012.
Edward Pancake their website says they dropped youth from the name. Unfortunately the orchestra has suffered under Maduro. The musicians have mostly scattered to other countries. A first violinist was murdered during a protest.
harrietgate The US State Department and most of the mass media is opposed to anything good from Venezuela. The US only supports its vassals like Mexico and Colombia and Chile.
+Tahuan Tinsuyo This American artist, conductor, and composer is enthralled with the work of La Sistema and Dudamel, and follow them like a hound follows a scent! Just so ya know. :)
I want you to listen to the youth orchestra of my city, Venezuela, of the system, directed by the teacher Christian Vasquez and so you can give me your oinion?
In all seriousness, I'd like to nominate Dudamel for a Noble Peace Prize. His music spreads joy to people around the world and he shows the youth of his native land to be capable of extraordinary things, busting negative stereotypes along the way. Such joy here! Thank you, Maestro.
Don't disagree, but the prize really belongs to the creator of El Sistema, the late Doctor Jose Antonio Abreu. All other youth orchestras around the globe have been inspired by El Sistema. The Venezuelan youth orchestra was established in 1975. Look for Tocar y Luchar on RUclips.
If you can listen to this and NOT feel their passion, than you need to call the undertaker. This was THE most moving emotionally inspirational performances that I have ever heard!!!
This is absolutely amazing - to have an orchestra this size and have it be so precise and clear. Particularly with youth musicians (although they don't look all THAT young). Very very very well done!!!
This happens because both its director, Gustavo Dudamel, and the members of the orchestra have known each other for years and work as a whole. Dudamel says that they function as one body and consider each other brothers and sisters. The vast majority of them come from very humble families and have started studying from a very early age. Dudamel, for example, started at the age of 4, which is why some of them have known each other for more than 2 decades. Dudanel feels like one of them. No more no less. He conducts without sheet music because he knows every piece he directs by heart. They all belong to EL SISTEMA, a project created almost 50 years ago and has trained thousands of musicians. Due to the economic situation of the country many musicians have emigrated to all parts of the world and yet there are more than 600 orchestras in the country formed with EL SISTEMA founded by the maestro José Antonio Abreu, economist by profession and musician.
These young musicians and conductor are fantastic! I haven't been so moved since I saw the original production on Broadway with Bernstein conducting in the 1950s.
Leonard Bernstein, who did so much to educate youth about classical music, would be so proud of this. Gustavo! He is a marvel, and we in the Los Angeles area are so proud to have him at the LA Philharmonic...these young musicians are fantastic. Bravo to all!
I listen to every Version of this Overture or whatever version of Music it is released in. I have to say this is a Brilliant rendition of one of my all - time Favorite Musicals , and I feel the power in their hearts playing this terrific rendering of incredible Music from the 1950s Beat Generation to not even 10 yrs. later becomes Hippies in "HAIR - The American Tribal Rock Musical" , one was Jazzy from the West Side Story and one was the East Village and Washington Square being Rocked & Rolled , and I got to see them both ! This is incredible and well Conducted !
martha jane No we all don't know that he was Gay and WTH does that got to do with his Religion , Jesus was a Jew too ! He just never conducted a Orchestra , he turned Fishermen into ! But if a Puerto Rican lady in NY influenced him as his Muse on WSS , it is one Incredible Piece of ART she contributed to ! I like it more then the MONA LISA painting or DAVID , Statue in Florence ! Luckily , I got to visit many places with great history in the World , long before getting hooked on-line , was trending !
Fantastic performance of the highest calibre!!!!! Look at these kids, they are brilliant. I have been to many symphony orchestras with paid seasoned performers who could not have played with such fire and energy.
There's been some amazingly memorable experiences the BBC Proms has provided in recent decades; none of which will be more exciting than this ASTONISHING performance.
This Production is So Clean. Wow. I Can’t Believe The Workmanship. On Everyone. The Detail Is Amazing The Conductor. Is Great. 😢😮😊. My Favorite. Pete sr Siny I Had Every Emotion. Possible. Loved It
If that was not the most beautiful exhibition of pure bliss....I am so thrilled to have been exposed to this extraordinary work of art and talent as a child....this was a must to share with not only my children, but also my grandchildren....it has turned them all into lovers of classical music and Broadway. Thank you from the depths and breath of my soul Lenored Bernstein....this is timeless work of a God given talent, and can never ever get old...it just gets more exquisite everytime my family and I have the opportunity to listen....over and over. God bless you and RIP. REPLAY!!
When I played this in my sophomore year of orchestra, we finally nailed the piece and by the end of it my teacher was in tears, it was probably one of the most beautiful moments of my life, seeing my teacher so proud and filled with emotion, he's such an amazing man and I know this piece meant a lot to him because he lost his first wife in a car accident, I just wish I could have met the person that made him so happy.
So facinating to see all these performances from different genres but noticing all the similarities between them and the 2021 soundtrack being conducted by Gustavo Dudamel... Just makes you appreciate the contribution of the conductor to an orchestral piece!
Maestro Gustavo has a very deep way of conducting. Besides the musicians of orchestra are quite good. All of them understood perfectly the work of Leonard Bernstein and how to perform it. Excelente Maestro!
I'm 12 and playing this in my local Youth Orchestra!!! Looked it up and it sounds so cool! I grew up listening to the soudtrack, playing it is my dream
I still can't get over Maestro Dudamel and The Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela. It's a world-class orchestra and the oldest member isn't even 25 years old! I wish them and Maestro Dudamel all the best; they are incredibly accomplished and are deserving of great honor.
The energy and professionalism of this great young orchestra are quite extraordinary. The conductor steers the orchestral ship quite well. He could be either on the East Side or the West Side. This is great musical art! We applaud this performance!
If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything at all. This is wonderful music played by a lot of very skilled musicians. Give them a lot of credit, they deserve it!
our high school just did this for our spring musical and i had the honor of playing clarinet for our pit orchestra. this music is awesome haha i am amazed at how perfect this group sounds
Yes he did not only educated the people and young ones, he also promoted classical music at the same time. Gustavo likes his music so much that he played his music at the London Proms! And the audience loved it
Ok. I'm listening to this beautiful performance of one of my favorite Leonard Bernstein compositions, 10 years after it was posted. I think back in 2011, RUclips had the decency not to interrupt musical videos with adds (8:40 is when it happened when I watched). Most frustrating. If the adds were shown at the beginning or the end of the performance, great. I'd even sit through them. But in the middle??? Thank you to the uploader of the video and a special thanks to the talented, Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra.
The Latinos have much to be proud about. Gustavo Dudamel and his young orchestra did a fantastic job. I can keep listening to it over and over. The music was written by Leonard Bernstein. He was a Jew who grew up in New York.
The professionalism of these kids, the close adherence to the music, what it says, the story it tells, is just overwhelming. The prologue ends at 4:12, and I will say that section alone is perfect. Allow me to single out the percussionist, you drummer who literally supports his colleagues. This is the finest music on RUclips.
Absolutely brilliant performance. This was part of the Proms in 2007. I remember watching this live. Loved it then, love this now. At the end of this concert they did an encore of this piece, attired in their national flag. Plus, having a bit of fun at the same time. Whomever posted this. Thank you. Maybe you will be able to find the encore version. It's worth it. Honest.
El Sistema de orquestas juveniles venezolanas was created by Jose Antonio Abreu, teacher and musician, in 1975 to help children of lower income. It was not created by the chavismo.
There are mountains of beautiful music out there but it requires that young people are allowed access to instruments, and instruction, so we all benefit, as in the case of this orchestra. Fantastic musicians having a great time and spreading joy in an international language with no barriers.

I am curious if you saw the comment I made about this. The "correction" I made as far as THIS particular performance.
probably not--

Gustavo Dudamel and the Simon Bolivar Youth Orchestra of Venezuela have done a great honor to Leonard Bernstein, RIP.
Leonard would have wept for joy to see this! Anyone knowing the story of El Sistema who could watch this and not be moved must have a heart of stone.

Bud Fields Excellent comment. I do the same. I hope you visit El Sistema and the beautiful country where its at. I have, and it is amazing.

If you can listen to this and NOT feel their passion, than you need to call the undertaker. This was THE most moving emotionally inspirational performances that I have ever heard!!!
That chord at 19:30 always cuts right through me to the core... Bravo Bernstein , Bravo Dudamel. Superb and timeless music.
Oh my,yes. It's washes over youn like a wave of warmth.
When they played "Somewhere"... I could literally listen to that section forever. So beautiful!
"Some Where " reaches in to the depths of my being . so beautiful .
Their performance is something really exceptional.
This is absolutely amazing - to have an orchestra this size and have it be so precise and clear. Particularly with youth musicians (although they don't look all THAT young). Very very very well done!!!
They were all In their early 20s
Since 2011 they haven't been able to call themselves a youth orchestra. The median age is too high

Keeping Leonard Bernstein's music alive--beautiful.
These young musicians and conductor are fantastic! I haven't been so moved since I saw the original production on Broadway with Bernstein conducting in the 1950s.
This can't be a Youth Orchestra.How beautiful the music is.BRAVO !!!
This orchestra is the best thing that Latinamerica has produced en years.
why?
Better try delicious Colombian empanadas ;-) But right after them comes this orchestra...
Beatriz Cotello *Venezuela.
Cool, man, cool. Dudamel and his brilliant young charges have got this one down to a tee.
brilliant orchestra with such great music not forgetting the camera work by men who could read the score.
FYI: Dudamel conducted the orchestra for Spielberg's upcoming new version of "West Side Story"! Due out 12/18/20 (so far).
Leonard Bernstein, who did so much to educate youth about classical music, would be so proud of this. Gustavo! He is a marvel, and we in the Los Angeles area are so proud to have him at the LA Philharmonic...these young musicians are fantastic. Bravo to all!

The Latin flavor and beat of this suite is perfect for performance by
these young energetic Venezuelan musicians.

This is a wonderful youth orchestra.
I played this spectacular piece with my youth orchestra and I probably had more fun playing this than any other pieces with my orchestra.

BRAVO!!!! Great and fantastic performance!!! Maestro Bernstein whom I had honor to meet in person could be proud of you!!!
I know it's already been mentioned a few times, but I still have to say that the clapping between 22:40 and 22:48 is my favorite part.
There needs to be a substantial moment of silence after the last note is played.
There is a good reason.
It has to do with the vibrations in the air that remain after the music stops.
The music is still radiating outward, outward and it needs a space of silence to move into.
The cacophonous beating of hands, the rowdy applause, beats it back and obliterates the afterglow that is absolutely necessary for the FULLEST enjoyment of the music.
The music needs to be surrounded by silence.
That way, it can be heard better.
It's like clearing the palate between courses at dinner.
At the end of a piece, the audience should hold back their enthusiasm for a few seconds.
Let the music melt away.
Youth orchestras are often great
The camera work/ editing on this is terrific !!!!!
Perfect score, played perfectly. Thank you God for these young people who could feel the depth of this arrangement.
What a great looking bunch of musicians !!!!!!!!
Really beautiful.
This is just too amazing for words.
