Brenda - you are the guardian Saint of butterflies! I decided to create a pollinator garden last winter and so far have seen several butterflies, moths, etc in it this spring. There was a Eastern Tiger Swallowtail flying around and it landed in the 'puddle' my dog had just made by the walkway. It stayed drinking there long enough for me to get a picture of it. I also put in a regular butterfly puddle in with the flowers.

I heard somewhere that butterflies show up near people with healing powers! 🦋🦋🦋🐞🐝 I love my garden. Today I saw my baby butterfly coming out of the shell. I feel blessed. She left....🥺.

I and 2 busloads of Dbn. Hts. of Senior Citizens came there yesterday. (6/19/15) It's beautiful to see Micigander Butterflies and their Host plants.... and of course I just HAD to buy 2 butterfly plants for my backyard. One basic rule - NO Pesticides. (Y) :) Thanks Brenda

I like butterflies. Humminbirds are my favorite but i also keep bees. Out of all the beekeeping videos i have seen about ninety percent have no garden or a very tiny one. keeping bees and butterflies as pets is a responsibility you accept as you would do for any other pet. Feed them a decent meal. Give them plenty to eat not just in spring but year round as much as possible. Do not plant just one kind either. Do want to eat peanut butter and jelly snadwiches every day every meal? No you want to eat different things so treat them the same. Give them a buffet of all you can eat of what they love best. Easy.

I took a line from Field of Dreams. I planted and they came. I live in Florida so I see lot of wildlife to begin with. 31 species of butterflies counted in one hour this morning, 2 species of hummingbirds, 17 species of other birds including several varieties of feral parrots. Many fly right up to me. I don't keep pets. I built a restaurant for wildlife and they visit me. I only have to take care of the plants. The animals and butterflies take care of themselves. One pair of feral sun conures spent twenty minutes eating out of my hands.

If I were to plant a host plant for every species of butterfly that visits my backyard I'd need to plant a hundred acre forest of host plants. I live in Florida. Yesterday in my back yard I randomly counted 4 species of butterflies in three minutes. This morning I spent an hour and counted 31 species. That is one random hour.

I noticed she never mentioned the gossamer wing species. I guess the gossamer winged caterpillars are too small to give away to people?
