Sewing Tutorial: Making a Hillside Tote, Pattern by Noodlehead

- Watch as I go through the process of sewing a pattern for the first time, this one is the Noodlehead Hillside Tote, the larger size. I do not instruct or talk through what I'm doing like I usually do in my videos, this is more of a follow along.
After I make a pattern once as written, I tweak and make changes to accommodate cork.

I'm sewing on my Juki TL2010q, using a size 14 micro-tex needle by Schmetz and Mettler thread size 40 with a stitch length of 4. Rivet template is from Tops & Bobbins.

If you ever do the video again, please talk through it. You are an amazing teacher. Even if you just "mumble"
I talk to myself when I sew 😂 thanks for all you do
What is good about your videos is your personality coming through and the clarity of your instructions no music.
I prefer talking as well. I couldn't on this video because I listened to music in the background while I sewed and the video was flagged for copyright :/
Thank you so much for posting your videos. I am a self taught sewer who started with masks last year! I decided to try bag making a couple of months ago and have learned so much. I love the process of bag making! The creativity, fabrics, math, tools, …. I am soaking it in and experimenting with techniques, tool, and fabrics! You are inspiring!!! Your bags are beautiful; your vibe is relaxing. And thank you for not editing out times when you struggle with something or have to redo a spot! I appreciate watching you work through it.
So glad you enjoy my channel! Be sure to join my Facebook group too!
The type of music we like to hear when watching your videos is your talk.
You have such a good eye for design & fabric choices. I love everything I’ve seen of yours. Thanks!
Thank you!
I like this style of video. Sometimes I get tired of all the talking on sewing videos and I just want to relax and watch, plus I've already made a few of this bag. I would like to make a waxed canvas one but I wasn't sure how it would work with just the lining interfaced so thank you - perfect timing.
Glad you liked it! Most folks seem to not be a fan so it was nice hearing the opposite!
I'm only halfway through the video, but I wanted to say I am enjoying it as is. As I am watching I find myself talking to you in the video!!! I would have loved to have heard you talk yourself through it! I enjoy all your videos doesn't matter how you do them. You are easy to listen to and I like seeing your tats and ever changing hair color!!!! (hope that isn't weird!) and I adore you fur babies. I learn a lot from watching you. Thanks for taking the time to give us any videos! I appreciate you very much. Love from Arizona
Aww thank you so much Marsha!
This is a refreshing way to watch a bag tutorial....however I love having the audible cues where you are in a pattern so i can look up and rewind over and over when I get confused. Love the music choices :-)
lovely bag Nicole, i think I prefer the chat rather than the music, lol maybe its because im use to you chatting
I think so too!
Great video, I did miss u talking, but just grateful to watch a bag made in wax cotton,. I love cork and wax cotton, looking forward to you making this in cork xx
I plan on doing another bag where I’m talking!
I like when you talk through the pattern - but I like the bag!
I do like the audio. Anxious to try making my bag now.
You have done a beautiful job on this bag
Thanks so much!
I love your videos so helpful can you please tell me where I can get a template like the one you use for rivet placements please
Tops & Bobbins!
thank you for the video. love yr 4 legs assistant :)
Haha yes, she is quite helpful 😂😂
what kind of foot are you using when you topstitch? Is it a compensating foot?
I always use a Teflon foot!
Nice video. I definitely need the rivet tool.
It’s a game changer!
I like this one!!! Putting on my list!!
Hey Nicole! Great video but would much rather have you talking and walking us through it!💕
Noted!
Hate the music, but love to watch you create.
Haha, yeah, I wasn't a fan either. But I filmed the entire video and didn't know what else to do :(
Nice music. that second zipper edge topstitch drove me crazy! especially when doing the smaller size. thinking of adding a seam on the bottom so i don't have to deal with that again.
I love this style video too...very much!
Usually I really like you videos but I don’t like guessing what you are doing. I need instructions, it’s why I watch the videos
I know it’s totally different!
Nice video Nicole! Just wondering if you have tried making this bag using cork?
I haven’t yet but it’s on the list eventually!
I liked the video!
Awesome!
I love this style of video! ❤
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for the video, i bought the pattern this weekend.
Do you use an regular metal zipper? Do you sew over the zipper rail?
Nicole
I used nylon tooth zipper by the yard on this bag, and yes I sewed over the teeth. I wouldn’t with a metal zipper. I’d carefully see up to the teeth and then jump them and continue sewing.
@@SewGnar thank you
Great video, I prefer you talking than the music, hope your finger heals quick,.
Thanks!
Where can I get the rivet placement template? I definitely need one
Tops and Bobbins!
I like the instructional type videos more.
Sounds good!
i also like to hear what you are thinking and deciding, but am not a fan of the live videos.
Hi..great video, I prefer you talking us thru the steps..Barb
Noted!
I really wish should would, at a minimum, caption each step in the process if you don't want to hear your voice. I want to know exactly what you are doing so I can do it too, and if you change a step in the pattern, put it in the text of the caption (or the voice over, if you choose to go that route) with the reason why you changed it and how. Even after watching the whole thing and trying to follow along with the written pattern, it didn't really work for me. Please either provide voice instructions as you do it, or closed caption with written text. Thank you.
Check out my other videos if you want spoken instruction. This is the only video on my channel that doesn’t have any words and that’s because the music I had on gave me a copyright ding, so it’s either remove the video totally or take away the talking 🤷🏼♀️
I like the talking more cause other videos just can not watch with no talking
I would prefer narration as well.
While the bag turned out awesome. I like to hear you talk. If you don't wanna do a step by step video I still wouldn't mind listening to you talk about anything. 👍🏽
Ok thanks!
Really need the talking to know exactly what you are doing at that moment.
I know, it’s weird without talking!
I rather you communicate with us, hope your finger is better. 😊
yeah that wasn't fun when I poked myself!
I missed your voice. I prefer you talking because I can knit etc along with watching the video, this one I had to watch only :/
Prefer you talking but great video
