You deserve all the praise, man. Your passion & flair for fusing concepts with such immense talent, knowledge & dedication to back it up brings drumming to a whole new level. I haven't seen very many drummers that can play Jazz, Metal, Rock, Fusion with such improvisation, fluidity and ease like you do. Thank you for sharing your music with us! Congrats on the Zildjian sponsorship. \m/ \m/
Have you seen your solo with the music (guitar, bass, synth etc) overlay by Alastair Taylor? If not, I strongly recommend to watch/listen what this guy did: ruclips.net/video/JDdoHJvdgKU/видео.html I also recommended his other works.
Woah, never heard drums played with such nuance, delicacy and dynamics! Gergo even talks about drumming the way he plays them. Poetically! Think I just found my new favourite drummer. Thank you Gergo Borlai!
I have like 3 levels to my playing this guy has like 25 noise levels he can play at. He can barely touch the snare and make a sound quieter than I would if I played with my finger but it's an impression that's still meaningful and contributes to the sound of the music. Amazing.
I think that's is too a commercial cause u can hear the difference with a normal snare or toms, get that sound require top gear and top micros or at least good ones, sound so special with a special player, when you put the best in all you get that pure sound
Gergo Borlai - musicality , perfect drum sound and tune , dynamic , feel , very inspiring. thank you so much Grego and for Drumeo for bringing this to the world God Bless us all .
I have only admiration and respect for this man. Off the charts musicality and technique. Such a cool guy as well, with a good heart. Gergo is a gift for the drumming community.
WOW. Amazing player. Just... wow. This solo is MUSIC. This guys is my new favorite at the moment, and I can't believe it took me this long to discover him. And he plays an arrangement of Keep it Greasy? He's just too much. Too good... And holy crap, his kit sounds AMAZING. Like, the sound of his kit is pretty much the drum sound I have in my mind. He's achieved it. I know Gretsch drums are some of best sounding drums ever (I heard a Gretsch kit from 82 - jasper shells era - that was set up in a studio, and it was just monstrous) but the kit in this video is on a different level. LOVE. IT.
One of my favorite bits so far. That opening solo alone, the nuance, the musicality, the technicality and the way it moves and changes... oooh, so stimulating and inspiring!
You are so talented it's magical! Where does this brilliance come from? From the cosmic womb! It flows like water then erupts like a sonic volcano! Absolutely amazing and inspiring. Thank you brother of the drum.
Many times people ask the rationality behind improvisation. But to me either you are a creative person or not. Gergo is one of them. You can practice technical aspects in any instrument in order to develop a necessary vocabulary to express your thoughts, just like a poet you need to be able to write and read, or a painter needs to know how to draw and mix colors, but creativity, you are born with it or you are not.
Simply outrageous. amazing technique and vocabulary. such exploration and desire to play around with concepts and ideas. outside of what's being played. he's put in his time and I know from first hand experience he's a nice dude. what a fun solo .not to be picked at or compared to. but to appriciate someone maybe new or simply different. to many people hating on videos or comparing and in reality hold no candle to said comparison or person of interest. thanks drumeo fam and thanks Gergo and Ron thanks Dunnet (also very awsome guy)and everyone for their post .so I and others are able to see the diversity in people and our drumming community. good and bad. remember someone is always watching ... cheers again , Ray.
Gergo's improvisational skills are amazing, he can really tell a story with the drums so the title is fitting. Overall he is an amazing and versatile drummer, his solos are always entertaining!
Chops and musicality... unbeatable combination! Great touch, technique, and approach Gergo Borlai is great to listen to...Clean and seemingly effortless! Fun to watch and listen!
I just love that as a drummer, THIS is my education. I love learning from the perspective of someone who been playkng a long time has a lot of situations under their belt. They always teach from a "this is how you make your OWN musical decision" standpoint... awesome, just AWESOME
I love how his drums and cymbals all have this consistent sound. I'm usually a fan a dry cymbals and drums, sort of like a Matt Garstka type of sound. But, after seeing this guy, I've gained an appreciation for more open sounding drums and high pitched cymbals.
I've rarely heard a drummer that can make the same loop sound so fresh throughout 5 minutes. The solo in 19/16 is one of the most musical and inspiring things I've heard in a while!
Brilliant. He mentioned about listening to solos from guitar and piano; and in the same way that piano/guitar chords build and release tension in certain keys/chords, he tries to explore the same dynamics in drumming to cause and release that pressure, as he phrases as 'questions' and 'answers'. I think that's such a cool idea.
there is an old documentary in hungarian about Gergő. In one scene he is talking to a sound engineer and tells him "last night I saw in a metal show on TV a band called NILE, something totally impossible, playing these things (blast beats) for minutes...something not normal"... and now he says: George Kolias is one of my best friends and blast beats are great :)
Nabil Karsheh Yea, in his drum solo at the 2010 Meinl Drum Festival he makes a nod to the metal guys in the audience by playing a blast beat. He does a slower, jazzier blast beat in this video too. I love how the newer breed of Jazz drummers are starting to include Death Metal riffs in their vocabulary. Of course Marco Minnemann was actually playing Tech Death back in '08 (Necrophagist, Illlogicist) but I Love Gergo!! Phucking Phenomenal:)
I said it before and I'll say it again.....Mr. Borlai has an insane kick and hi-hat placement that's already bad ass. But in my opinion, what sets him apart from other drummers is having that amazing placement but then elevating his style further to have this incredible and unforgettable groove. His drumming makes my head hurt sometimes but that's a good thing. LOL
Wow yet another awesome Drumeo lesson. I normally think I'm a decent drummer until I watch these drum lessons! So many legends out there doing amazing stuff.
Gergo is a great drummer. Maybe not the best teacher, but he plays really well and has his own style. Seems like a really nice guy too. Also, love the kit. Sounds excellent.
I agree with Jared, that was one of the coolest drum solos I've ever seen! Creativity, funky, groovy, great dynamics, and so many different sounds. Not to mention outstanding drum tones captured by Drumeo. Funny how the top comments are requests for other drummers.
Thanks Drumeo! I have seeen videos of Gergo in drummerworld website before.Amazing hands and the question answer thing really gives a new perspective. These full drum lesson videos make me feel more closer to the drummers who come for an hour long session. It helps to understand their style, technique and their personality (which is the amazing part). Support from Bangladesh!
Holy crap that snare drum! Perfection. I have a Gretsch Brooklyn and a USA custom kit. I play the Brooklyn far more. And gergo is just so smooth on the drums. Fantastic job all the way around.
And this is why everyone should learn heel-toe technique (if you look at his footwork). I've spent weeks practicing it and trust me, it's worth it. There's a video somwhere on Drumeo with a good tutorial.
Gergo, you are such an interesting, musical drummer. Thanks for your insights. Your approach and manner is humbling. Looking forward to hearing more from you. Fantastic lesson.
Drumeo, at 26:11 - 26:22, I believe I took part in that unofficial contest XD A few days after you guys did this session, Gergo and Ronn came to Saskatchewan for the Stickman Drum Camp, and at the student session, GB did "19/16" with me and 3-4 other guys sitting in chairs beside this guy as he was playing. ABSOLUTELY WICKEDNESS :)
Mangos as Weapons I was actually just about to comment saying something to that effect, because I just looked. I can't say I'm super familiar with Gretsch, so I had to take his word. lol You're right though, this set is KILLER.
Snare drums in this video : Main = 6.5 x 14 Gergo Borlai "Desig2nate" model Bronze snare drum. Side = 6.5 x 14 Dunnett Classic 2N Modeling Aluminum snare drum.
Drumeo just wanna say bc of this I've really gotten into Zappa the last couple of weeks and have been studying a lot of Vinnie, Bozzio, and Wackerman and it's been very helpful for me in finding more influence and broadening horizons. Thanks!
Impressive Technique. Very fine tuned strokes. I love IT. And will watch it again. Until learning how to get this clean/speedy/groovy/heavy sound. Really from the Heart. Cheers...and the Q&A theory is very original. + the not repeating stuff as well.
Thank you for the kind words people! Means a lot me! I had a wonderful time at Drumeo. Those wonderful people helped me a lot to get the right mood!
You deserve all the praise, man. Your passion & flair for fusing concepts with such immense talent, knowledge & dedication to back it up brings drumming to a whole new level. Drumeo - pin Gergo's comment at the top.
Impressive, love your musicality and energy.
Have you seen your solo with the music (guitar, bass, synth etc) overlay by Alastair Taylor? If not, I strongly recommend to watch/listen what this guy did: ruclips.net/video/JDdoHJvdgKU/видео.html I also recommended his other works.
😎👍🇺🇸🇭🇺💪🥁💣🔥🎼GERGO!!!
Favorite drummer on the planet right now...
This guy is fantastic. Creative and refreshing!
this guy is easily one of the greatest drummers of all time.
watch this video again, and share this.
Woah, never heard drums played with such nuance, delicacy and dynamics! Gergo even talks about drumming the way he plays them. Poetically! Think I just found my new favourite drummer. Thank you Gergo Borlai!

Gergo Borlai - musicality , perfect drum sound and tune , dynamic , feel , very inspiring. thank you so much Grego and for Drumeo for bringing this to the world
God Bless us all .
I have only admiration and respect for this man. Off the charts musicality and technique. Such a cool guy as well, with a good heart. Gergo is a gift for the drumming community.
His opening solo was OUT OF THIS WORLD!
Gergo is the man... such crazy chops..
Gergo is a beast! Saw him at the Dresdner Drum Festival a few years ago. Absolut killer!
WOW. Amazing player. Just... wow. This solo is MUSIC. This guys is my new favorite at the moment, and I can't believe it took me this long to discover him. And he plays an arrangement of Keep it Greasy? He's just too much. Too good...

One of the most sophisticated solos I‘ve ever seen in my whole life. Wow!
One of my favorite bits so far. That opening solo alone, the nuance, the musicality, the technicality and the way it moves and changes... oooh, so stimulating and inspiring!
Omg gergo you got the sickest foot work ever I'm speechless
I don't understand why anybody would give this a thumb down. It is just phenomenal! Two thumbs up.
Wow!!! That was probably the greatest solo I have ever heard!
You are so talented it's magical! Where does this brilliance come from? From the cosmic womb! It flows like water then erupts like a sonic volcano! Absolutely amazing and inspiring. Thank you brother of the drum.
I have an early 2000's Dunnett Bronze snare 6.5x14. It is really amazing. Thanks Mr. Dunnett.
Musicality, groove, crazy chops, good technic - that's all about Borlai
Many times people ask the rationality behind improvisation. But to me either you are a creative person or not. Gergo is one of them. My first time seeing/hearing him play, but there is no question, Gergo is a badass! He also comes across as a genuinely humble person.

The absolute best teacher. ;)

There;s something about this drummer that every other doesn't have. So creative.
Gergo! Among the world's greatest! Very creative and colorful drumming. Nice kit!
Probably the best thumbnail in Drumeo.
I love how his drums and cymbals all have this consistent sound. I'm usually a fan a dry cymbals and drums, sort of like a Matt Garstka type of sound. But, after seeing this guy, I've gained an appreciation for more open sounding drums and high pitched cymbals.
The cymbals on this kit look INSANE! Awesome lesson aswell!
He is just a GOAT , wonderful musicality , technique and dynamics. Love it, Inspiring !
This whole lesson is just mind blowing.....Unbelievable drumming and amazing sound......Totally awesome.

Gergo genius! Thanx Drumeo!
Those toms sound so nice and full. I love it :D
One of the best drummers and a very nice guy! Great lesson! Tranks drumeo!
By far one of the most unique, technical and creative drummers ever!
Incorporating blast beats with jazz? I love this guy!
there is an old documentary in hungarian about Gergő. I wouldn't say he is a jazz drummer
Nabil Karsheh He is proficiant in the genre. It's important to be versatile as a musician.

How did someone find it in them to click thumbs down! This is world class drumming.
This is drumming at its finest
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SOUNDING KIT... EXCELENT!!!
The best tom sound ever!
I just recently found out about Gergo. What an amazing musician!!! Thank you Drumeo for continuing to bring us such great artists!!!
This guys the best! No literally he's the best.
Love the way he plays with the toms and dynamics when he go crazy!!!
Amazing playing, Mr Borlai. Great inspiration! I love the tuning of your floor toms, by the way.
He is a true artist
this really inspires me to work on my footwork, i love the way borlai uses his kick
I have an older bronze snare made by Ron. Love it and always get compliments from other drummers. Awesome drums!
Wow!! one of the best drums solo i've ever seen.. just.. wow men... this master is special. Marco minnemann will be another master piece.
I said it before and I'll say it again.....Mr. Borlai has an insane kick and hi-hat placement that's already bad ass. Impresionante !!!! Genialidad criterio, musicalidad
El combo perfecto...
The intro solo: WOOOOOW
Holy crap that snare drum! Perfection. I have a Gretsch Brooklyn and a USA custom kit. I play the Brooklyn far more. And gergo is just so smooth on the drums. Fantastic job all the way around.
This is one of my favorite drummers of all time, and this is the first i see you play. this insipired me so much
And this is why everyone should learn heel-toe technique (if you look at his footwork).

Yep, a Brooklyn kit is in my near future after hearing this kit. Sick.
Mangos as Weapons I believe he said it's a broadkaster
Will Brophy I know he said that but unless it's a custom finish and a custom badge, that's not any broadcaster I've ever seen. ;-)
Mangos as Weapons I was actually just about to comment saying something to that effect, because I just looked. I can't say I'm super familiar with Gretsch, so I had to take his word. lol
You're right though, this set is KILLER.
Will Brophy For sure, that kit is a beast!
icetech6 For real? Well that sucks. Maybe I'll save up a bit more and stick with the USA's then. That's too bad.
that solo was hypnotic!
Thank you. You gave something back to me, that have forgotten.
Man I love Drumeo and Gergo
Drumeo thank you bring us such a maestro
Always support you
Wow what a great drumeo lesson with Gergo, so much great information and inspiration. One of my fave drummers out there!!!! Thanks!!!!
I love how Grego's solos start real simple and build up to a controlled chaos, truly painting a picture or telling epic stories!!!!
This is HUGE ! Thank you Drumeo ! The sound tech team does an amazing job ! :-P
Jojo Mayer please!! We've been asking for him for ages!!
***** Why?
`cause he's one of the most innovative players out today and the way he sees music blows my mind.
***** Jojo Mayer is craaaazy good
***** its phill! You should go on drumeo :)
Calling The Tech Wolf That would be fun!
I love how he changed the tuning of the drums by using the base of the drumstick on the drumheads. It reminds me of playing Tabla.
Gergo is unreal!
Somebody said Ronald Bruner Jr... Great shout
Snare drums in this video : Main = 6.5 x 14 Gergo Borlai "Desig2nate" model Bronze snare drum. Side = 6.5 x 14 Dunnett Classic 2N Modeling Aluminum snare drum.
I LOVE Grestch drums, but holy cow your snares are top notch! Sounded beautiful!

my mind is blown! Thanks Gergo, thanks Drumeo!!

What a legend, love that solo!
Gergo is amazing, thanks Drumeo!
I am proud to say I own his signature snare. it is a beast of a drum.
Thanks again, Drumeo! Gergo is awesome as always.. Please invite Zach Danziger or Dave DiCenso next.
Impressive Technique. Very fine tuned strokes. I love IT. And will watch it again. Until learning how to get this clean/speedy/groovy/heavy sound. Really from the Heart. Cheers...and the Q&A theory is very original. + the not repeating stuff as well.
Gergo Great chops and great lesson thanks!
Gergo it's a very impressive Time Machine!!!! 👍👍👍👍
fa that was beautiful man
Gergo is incredible! Lesson awesome as always. Thank you so much Drumeo :)
Those are some intensely awesome sounding floor toms..
That finger slide on the floor Tom at the end of the solo...woah...
I would love to see a Dave DiCenso lesson. Gergo is awesome thank you Drumeo
huge solo we i like it too much!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow this is awesome I love the fast singlestroke rolls it almost sounds like Billy Cobham
What a monster! Really enjoyed this. Such cleanliness - Gergo, you are amazing. I dub you Mr. Clean!
Incredible lesson guys - as always. Thanks so much, I can't wait to see more.
Cool! Linguistical communication concepts applied to drumming... very interesting!
