I use to watch Sonny when he was touring with Earth Wind and Fire. He was so awesome and extremely flawless. Sonny Emory is one of the greatest drummers of all time.
One of the best solos I've ever seen & heard. Not only his awesome technique but also his feel for grooves and his musicality are brilliant and outstanding!
One of the most underrated drummer of all time! Being one of the members of putting EWF back on the map, to Bette Midler and now kicking butt with the Jeff Lorber Fusion, Sonny Emory is a force to be reckoned with!
Here's a slam for you. Ole School Drummer playing DRUMS and CONGA'S at the same time, to Earth wind and Fire Gratitude album. ruclips.net/video/bmJBkWE88hw/видео.html
@@SXI96, to your point, I attended a Dennis chambers drum clinic at Sam Ash, Long Island, many moons ago. Legendary drummer with peerless skill. I forgot everything about his playing because he was such a condescending asshole and that is all I remembered about the clinic. I really don't know how he didn't feel embarrassed to have projected the negative vibe that he did.
Sonny Emory is like a Drum GOD to me💥❤❤❤❤❤❤❤He lifted my spirits and brought me out of my sadness. Thank you so VERY much Sonny....GOD knows that I needed to hear you DRUM.
Fascinating how Sonny's playing has evolved over the years. He was always rhythmically strong and used dynamics and space effectively, but his technique is better than ever and his palette continues to expand. Very musical and a pleasure to hear him solo. And unlike a lot of other drummers, he apparently prioritizes his health which gives him the endurance to practice and play extensively. And you gotta love that he makes time to teach and does it very well! Thanks Jared and Drumeo!
I've just recently found Sonny Emory in my feeds and Wow! This guy is not only an awesome drummer but has the coolest vibe going on in his videos, smiling and enjoying his craft. Sonny you are one cool cat. Thanks for the inspiration.
I've watched a ton of drum solos and presentations, but genuinely this is one guy where it never gets old. Very very skilful drummer. Totally unique. Makes me want to practice more!
Genius Drummer .. Super creative and Musical....Aaaannd He can keep a band sounding super tight old school style with no clicktracks on headphones and all that ... They don’t make’em like this no more!!! 🙌🔥
Still, after 5 1/2 years by far the BEST drum solo I've ever seen!! So much creative ideas flowing out of him and he just keeps on going :D Those fast & clean singles are awesome :-O also that 10" tom sounds killer! crazy talented drummer! I love how this solo is not just showing off but SO musical and groovy.
I have to say this is one of the best most interesting solos I have seen in a long time, after all the gospel shedding and show solos it has great flow maturity and above all , content.
When Sonny turned off the electronic gizmo sounds and opened up into full-throttle linear hyper-drive, cosmic horizons of percussive whoop-ass magically emerged from the rhythmic ether, falling like Drum Manna from the sonic heavens. Even my cat Caesar was impressed and his whiskers bristled with delight! Hot damn on those funky hot cakes!
Thank you Mr. Sonny Emory for the drum clinic and lesson with one of the greatest players of all time! This was so informative and inspiring and down right cool! I saw Sonny for the first time in Columbus, Ohio at a drum symposium close to 20 years ago. All I knew about him is that he played with EWF. He came out, sat down behind a lone snare drum and literally put everyone in the theatre in total shock! A young drummer sitting next to me, looked at me as though he had been electrocuted and all he could say was "circus freak'! Thanks for this post and for the great work you're doing at Drumeo! Blessings!
This guy is smooth! I believe all drummers should learn the Linear concept regardless. It's such a great tool to spread out into all Genres.I use the idea in everything from Jazz to blues, rock, metal, hardcore, Soul, hip hop, R&B and defiantly fusion and it helps allot to prepare you for latin and reggae grooves.
Brilliant. You may not think so by your standards. but compared to most drummers of Earth you must know you are spot on; machine like and inspiring to those who might want to attempt the art of rythm. Just accept that you are an inspiration and a level of the highest order for those who wish to achieve greatness.
Sonny's lightning hands amazed me when I saw him live at The Blue Note just after he won his first big drum competition award some 30 yrs ago.. I knew right then he was going to be a major star, and he has surely become one. Thanks for the mastery, for the lessons, for the inspiration then and now still...sooo awesome!!!
I had the chance to play along side Sonny last year in Jazz Band, he's an awesome performer and person. I live in the same neighborhood as Sonny and his family and his son is a good friend of mine .
Sonny says " I'm big on education".......well I just got schooled! Seriously one of the world's ultra elite drummers! I first got turned on to him through Bruce Hornsby. No matter how complex this cat plays he's always in full control and captain cool! Having the ability to remain as relaxed he does is half the battle.......he's pure finesse! I could practice every minute of my remaining years and I'd never be this good..........but we need to witness talent like this to keep us inspired and humble!
Your videos are simply awesome! I'm a beginner drummer and every single video here proved to be important for me: exercises, inspiration and so one. Thanks a lot for your passion and to inspire a lot of people!
Great talent, presentation/execution, an all around superbly informative and entertaining teaching session. one of the best hours I've ever invested learning drum techniques in my life. thank you Sonny and thank you Drumeo crew.
One of the most outstanding drummers of all time. In a world full of great technicians and fast notes that fill up everything, he stands out not only for his chops but for his aesthetic choices mainly. Which makes a ton of difference. At least for me.
I think Yamaha and Sonny accomplished what they wanted......I just ordered the DVD, and also looking into the drums. Surprisingly these Live (oak) Custom's are very reasonably priced. I suppose I'm easily influenced, but you'd have to not be human to not be moved by this man's performance/ ability.
I've heard Sonny Emory on many recordings, from E. W. & F. to Lee Ritenour. Nice tracks, always musical and in the pocket. What a great guy to observe teach in this video. Very openminded, nice and relaxed. Thanks ;)
I saw Sonny in the 80’s in Clinic he was doing so many of the what’s Now Called Gospel Chops Effortlessly and Laying down some of The Most Inspirational and Funky Grooves I’ve Ever Witnessed
Thank you Drumeo for posting this video. Sonny Emory could possibly be my very favorite drummer. The only reason I don't just make that distinction is because of how many truly great drummers there are in this world. I feel like if I name one I have to name them all. But, Sonny, I hope through all of the time that i am trying to dedicate to practicing purposefully, that I can achieve solidarity as you display in all of these syncopated styles, incorporating ostinatos, linear, polyrythms, and interdependence.
Crazy how I remember 8:20 from a solo he did during an EWF performance. That was really the only time I've seen Sonny play. I had no idea he had chops like this.
This man is possibly the best drummer I've seen. And yet he teaches himself his own lesson. Start at 47:33 and realize the point he's trying to make, and then hear him rush a quarter note at 47:59 on the hi-hat. He proves his own point!
Really enjoyed this video, some amazing concepts and playing, really impressed with this whole video, kit sounded sweet, I already knew Sonny was a killer drummer.
***** Dean was talking about Sonny in the past tense and so the term 'was' is correct and his post also suggests that he still still believes he is. You just don't know the English language fluently enough to realise .
no wonder he's played with Ritenour, Stanley Clark, Steely Dan, etc. if I were to choose a drum teacher Sonny would be the one the stick control, technique and especially, especially the independence displayed here is mind boggling now I have something to strive toward I've been playing 35 years and can't even come close to this level peace )
great drumming.i love the sound of the kit its tight its microphoned up right .I love those presses nn rolls nn triplets, quads ,and that high hat accent.basically everything was tight.thanks for sharing a piece of your soul.
You hear and see here why artists like Steely Dan hired him to play on some of their studio recordings. They are sticklers for the perfect note placement, perfect dynamics, and perfect feel.
This is still one of the best drumeo lessons ever made.
One Of The Greatest. This introduction probably might have just made him my favorite drummer ever.
Agreed - always have loved Earth Wind & Fire but this intro opened my eyes up to Sonny.
I just saw this and I agree
I use to watch Sonny when he was touring with Earth Wind and Fire. He was so awesome and extremely flawless. Sonny Emory is one of the greatest drummers of all time.
This is an example of someone who diligently pursued his craft and acheived the full extent of his God given talent.I wish I was at that level.
One of the best solos I've ever seen & heard. Not only his awesome technique but also his feel for grooves and his musicality are brilliant and outstanding!

Same though
🎥 Sonny Emory is one of the most talented drummers that have come around. amazing techniques and skills , his finesse is out of this world 👁️
Those are the greatest sounding drums of all time.
Yamaha Live Custom!!!
They are miked up.
@@deathmetaldrumming4511 Really? No shit?
@@jeffreysampson2518 Yes that is why they sound so good...Don't know why you are being rude...
Best cymbals
One of the most creative and precise solos I’ve heard. This guy is a true master, and a cool guy to boot.
One of the most underrated drummer of all time! Being one of the members of putting EWF back on the map, to Bette Midler and now kicking butt with the Jeff Lorber Fusion, Sonny Emory is a force to be reckoned with!
He killed it on tour with Eric Clapton, as well.
The tuning of the drums are impeccable and when he rolls all the way around it sounds like thunder and lightning!!
absolute beast... admired Sonny Emory's playing for more then 20+ years now. Thank you for the upload.
The first solo is one of the best drum solo’s I have ever seen. Wow!
This guy here is one of the most influential solo drummers I,ve ever heard
Love Sonny Emory brilliant drummer!!
drummers always come across as the nicest guys in music.
Indeed! The role requirements for a drummer are among other to be social and easygoing.

Some drummers can be a*holes, the success and stardom goes to their head
On average though, yes drummers are some of the coolest people around!

One of my all-time favorite drummers. So tasty and such chops. His work with EW&F was incredible--as was his stuff with Bruce Hornsby.
Quick hands and silky smooth. An artist at the top of his craft
This is the greatest Drumeo drum solo…. One of the greatest solos on the internet. Wow.

8 minutes in and i have both goosebumps and tier in my eyes. one of the nicest drumming i've seen and felt
Yamaha drums, Zildjian K's, and Sonny Emory. All of the best of everything! This guy is as dope as can be.
I guess two out of three ain’t bad. But my Yamaha drums and Zildjian k’s don’t quite sound as good when I play em.
One of the best drummers, under-known. May I say -- those drums sound unbelievable.
Sonny one of the best working drummers since mid. 80"s, and still in great shape.... respect!!!!

One of the best drummers alive! His ideas are clean and his technique is flawless!
Wow this is some of this most precise and groovy drumming I have ever seen! Instantly became one of my favorite drummers.
I think I just found my new favorite drummer. What a great teacher too.
Complete mastery of his craft.
The open handed work helps me as I can relate to it. . . So much control and groove in his stuff. Beautiful.
Incredible drummer, loved him in Earth Wind and Fire.
sonnys work speaks for itself incredible drummer....this is the real deal people ive been drumming for fifty years and sonnys one of the very finest
I can't believe the perfection of everything that he just did
I enjoyed this video so much! It's beyond me how anyone could dislike this man, or his brilliant playing. Such a cool cat!
I saw and heard Sonny play at PASIC about 15 years ago. He is always amazing and with this interview, obviously a very thoughtful and cool guy.
The best drum solo of all drummeo chapters.
When Sonny turned off the electronic gizmo sounds and opened up into full-throttle linear hyper-drive, cosmic horizons of percussive whoop-ass magically emerged from the rhythmic ether, falling like Drum Manna from the sonic heavens.

Stumbled on this at 4am. Thought I'd watch for 5 minutes. Watched the entire video. Then realized this isn't recent. Amazing drummer.
I’ve lost touch with Drumeo over the years. But this is the best performance I’ve ever seen. Long live Sonny Emory! 👍🤟👏💪
WoW! Sonny, I'm clapping and smiling- Thanks for the adventure in your Linear Concepts.

I LOVE this channel! I never really knew who Sonny Emory is, but he played on Steely Dan's album "Two Against Nature" which I love. Gratitude, Drumeo.
Bloody hell! this man is so inspiring to me, 57 and still going superstrong, Marvel should check him out!

Sonny Emory = WIN
How can 109 people be so wrong and not like this?
This is awesome! He shares patterns that are way different to anything else out there and I really like that open handed one he shares.
He must have been the "Fire" in Earth, Wind, and Fire. That was a crazy roll. I need two cowbells. I like that.
That intro solo is unreal and a great lesson in itself! Awesome concepts and great video
