Shogun is up there with Master of Puppets and Rust in Peace! I’ll take Shogun over ANY Slayer album period. Far superior to Reign in Blood (overrated record).
Shogun is a masterpiece. I don't think anyone who's said that about the album is overrating it. It's exactly that. Trivium cooked in an inferno.. some could say it started from an Ember ;)
I have a 6 string and I'm trying to learn kiriste goman and besides not having a 7 string bit I'm using ernieball 10. And drop B my amps a champion 20 fender, mxr fullbore metal to get trivium, soad, metallica, pantera.
Kirisute Gomen and Shogun are pure GOLD masterpieces by Trivium. Trully believe those 2 songs are right there with the greatest heavy metal songs ever writen and played in the history of rock and heavy metal
Trivium never disappoints. One of those bands you can count on. Another great reaction video guys! I love watching you guys take this journey through the metal world
Vengeance Falls and Silence definitely disappointed me, but I love Sentence. Shogun is still my favorite album of theirs and also one of my favorite albums in general.
That’s awesome that Matt himself contacted you guys! This entire album is def worth a play through from start to finish. IMO it’s easily one of the greatest albums written on a 7 string guitar.
Fun fact: the intro of the first song on this album (Kirisute Gomen) is the melody from the chorus of this song, the last song on the album. So the record loops perfectly.
Damn I went from watching hip hop and rnb reactions to looking up to adding metal and bluegrass to my workout playlist damn u freethinking open minded ppl 😒
I went from michael jackson and the beatles and rock and roll to spice girls then when I was 14 Slipknot and metal and blues and jazz and everything as I got older and my mind expanded. Music Is fantastic for opening one up to new ideas.
I wish it was more that way on both sides. You're doing it right. I grew with Rock, Metal and am a musician. I grew up bullied by people who like rap, reggeaton and techno club music. I always thought there was nothing for me in hip hop but I was dead wrong. Once I grew out of my hate phase from those who were dicks, I found a lot of passionate artists who needed to get a message of discrimination across and who sampled some sick funk bands in their tracks. Keep on freethinking and being open minded. We need people like that on both sides.
Love the fact Matt heafy reachesd out to you guys and subbed. Matt’s a great dude, very active in the community with fans and even followed me on Twitter. Paulo the bassist social media game is on point too. But trivium as a band are great, everything about their music, the composition, the musicianship, everything that makes a great (metal) song pretty much and shogun is a very good example of it.
Not a huge fan of Trivium and I have to agree. I saw them back in '09 with Whitechapel/Chimaira/Dirge Within and they were particularly cool and nice. Everyone except for Whitechapel sounded great live and were really nice. Whitechapel sounded like shit, had technical problems, and were huge dickheads
Up next..... Pull Harder on the Strings of your Martyr!!!!!!! (P.S. watch out for the boat rudders, I hear they tend to swim near the strange mountains ;) )
I say do "capsizing the sea" followed by "in waves". They will go crazy over it! The right amount of build and energy, with the groove these cars look for
TOAOM123 While that's fair, I would say based on how they have covered and thoroughly enjoyed four of GOJIRA's songs, I can see them getting passed the screaming if the melody hits home for them. Plus Matt does sing in parts of In Waves to where it helps breaks up the screaming. I agree that Pull Harder wouldn't be a good song for them.
The lead singer, Matt, is just about the nicest guy you could meet. He is very involved with others via live streams and also makes appearances with RUclipsrs ie: Jared Dines. Wish them nothing but success!
I wouldn't call Trivium djent. They used to be Metalcore but they progressively got more unique and you really can't put them in one genre. They're definitely genre bending.
Trivium are kind of hard to define. There's some metalcore in there, but it's not the dominant style. I feel the melodic death influence that was always there in metalcore was much stronger in Trivium from the beginning. Then they incorporated more thrash and progressive influences, made The Crusade which sounds a lot like Metallica when Metallica were good and maybe became more metalcore and melodeath again... I wouldn't say that Shogun is an outlier. All of their albums have a pretty distinct sound and blend different subgenres.
TRIVIUM has always been a band that maintained a high bar of talent. This song is a perfect example of that. From kickass rhythms, (QUEEN style) blues solo and then the shred solos, multiple vocal tones and a complete package. I always felt this song was about getting your mind right to go up on stage and give it everything you have, again. I'm sure you will find the same abilities in NIGHTWISH. Try NIGHTWISH "Ghost Love Score" live at Wacken with Floor Jensen.
Aaron A. Foster personally I feel they peaked at Shogun. Their last two albums aren't bad per se but after listening to Shogun Silence in the Snow and Sin and the Snow can't hold my interest. In Waves is awful and Vengeance Falls feels like they simplified their stuff.
Gary Pereira I thought In Waves was spectacular. Vengeance Falls was what got me into them, but I can see why older fans wouldn't approve. Silence in the Snow was pretty mediocre. The Sin and the Sentence though was beyond incredible. I like it more than Shogun, it's easier to digest.
Also try SAVATAGE "Prelude to Madness/Hall of the Mountain King". One of the most underrated bands in the history of music but so good they didn't get very much credit until they created Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
Ryan and George thank you for this channle and doing what these reaction/reviews of the universal language of music and getting people to be free thinkers. Because of this channle ive heard a few artists/bands that im going to listen to more and expand my taste im music.
Blind Guardian - Born in a mourning hall. Same producer as master of puppets and One. Ferocity of Megadeth riffs, with melody and one of the best vocalists ever.
They will not do anymore PANTERA. Phil Ansalmo thrashed them on Twitter when they did PANTERA previously. They explain it better on one of their Q&A sessions.
It's more so because of the amount of people that attended the Moscow show. Solo is great either studio or live, but the actual live video is insane outside of Phil's crappy vocals lol.
Some great Trivium songs also include: Becoming the Dragon, Torn Between Scylla and Charybdis, Of Prometheus and the Crucifix, Of All These Yesterdays, Villainy Thrives, Blind Leading the Blind, and Pull Me From the Void.
Opeth - The Drapery Falls and Burden I wanna see them react to The Drapery Falls, a "death metal" Opeth song followed by the more mellow Burden, a beautiful ballad with those soulful solos at the end. If I had to pick one, it'd be Burden though. I don't think I've seen you guys react to a metal ballad before.
Trivium take you on a journey which is crazy and lovely to see you guys appreciate lyrics and musicality. Sometimes hard to see when you love a song and a band. Exactly why people want to see your reaction as you disect and undersrand it very well! Good effort boys, lovely to see the appreciation fron you both!

Wow that was some intense musicality at work right there. That drummer went crazy on the whole track but so did the other members. I could tell these guys stand on a high plateau in metal just by how technical and how precise their playing. The song was solid and it really put me on edge the when it came to the riffs man. Good job to Trivium and dope reaction guys.
Nate Baker in my opinion this album is where they peaked. Their last two albums are not bad per se but it is in the vein of Shogun but feels like a weak imitation. If Shogun didn't exist I'd probably love those albums.
I think it is time for these Metallica fanboys to see them live. Las Vegas T-Mobile Arena, Monday 26th November. It would be awsome to here a reaction of concert. Like comment if you to would love that.
I really gotta give you guys credit for this one! I've been listening to shogun for 10 years now and it is undoubtedly my favorite trivium record ever. I've always considered the title track to be the greatest epic trivium song, but I never considered how the music perfectly captures the theme of the lyrics like you described in this video. Really gave me a great insight into one of my all time favorite songs! Thanks guys!
Over the past couple of years, it seems to me that Heafy has been trying to become internet famous and he's been reaching out to other internet famous people, i.e his cringey bromance with Dines, his now defuct food blog and current Twitch adventure.
George breaking out "palm muting" (correctly, too)?! Awesome. You guys are the best and I wish I had learned the metal world as fast as you are progressing with it.
Thanks for finally doing this song! And yes, their original drummer is on this. I believe this was the last album he was on. He left I believe to love the family life
React to... "VOIVOOOOOD!!!!!" Lots of great material this band puts on the table and still do!!! Kings of his own empire, timeless, iconic, clever "Psychedelic Thrash" metal would be maybe the best way to describe his sound; Punk, speed metal, progressive, industrial, thrash metal are elements from their unique sound. Such an underrated band without the recognition it deserves... 1. Tribal Convictions 2. Target Earth 3. Time Warp Good songs as always, with some groovy structures on it. "We are connecteeeeeed!!!!"
You've reacted to all the classics and mandatory songs except one...Pantera "Cowboys from hell". Metal heads expect this travesty to be corrected...Thank you
Matt is an amazing person, makes me really enjoy Trivium a lot. Love the reactions and choices you pick to do! If you do more Trivium look at Shattering The Skies Above or Like Light To The Flies.
Matt Heafy is the harsh and clean vocals and the lead guitarist. He is not just super talented but an all around classy guy. Love this band, love this song. Please react to femina x - Frida's heart.
Masterpiece of a tune. Glad to see you cover more Trivium!
A WILD JASON APPEARED!
hello jason \m/

Oh I love that you're a fan of these guys too! C U Next Tues......... i'll catch your stream on tuesday, man...
jparaLove
Masterpiece.. perfect word. This is my all time favorite Trivium song. 10/10!
Trivium’s Shogun album will stand the test of time as one of the best crafted metal albums of all time, it truly is a masterpiece, excellent choice!
Shogun is up there with Master of Puppets and Rust in Peace! I’ll take Shogun over ANY Slayer album period. Far superior to Reign in Blood (overrated record).
@@offspringfan1288 stupidity is is your own choice
Shogun is a masterpiece. I don't think anyone who's said that about the album is overrating it. It's exactly that. Trivium cooked in an inferno.. some could say it started from an Ember ;)
Fun fact, Matt was only 22 when Shogun was made.
That's crazy lol
I think he was only 17 in Ember
If I remember correctly he joined the band when he was 13 which is crazy
Watch his speech on failure at a college. Makes you respect the man even more so.
that's mad respect holy shit..that album was a masterpiece and he did it at 22..jeezus im 22 -_- . just amazing!
Trivium - Kirisute Gomen
shogun and this...the ultimate trivium song
Kirisute Gomen tremolo picking riff is one, If not, their heaviest/evil riff. And the vocals are amazing.
I have a 6 string and I'm trying to learn kiriste goman and besides not having a 7 string bit I'm using ernieball 10. And drop B my amps a champion 20 fender, mxr fullbore metal to get trivium, soad, metallica, pantera.
i second that request!
Kirisute Gomen and Shogun are pure GOLD masterpieces by Trivium. Trully believe those 2 songs are right there with the greatest heavy metal songs ever writen and played in the history of rock and heavy metal
Wow I honestly wasn't expecting a Shogun reaction but I'm so glad you guys decided to do this song!
Lol, "who is the drummer?"... don't go there dudes 😂
Are they like Spinal Tap? 😁
Yeeeaaa...bad idea with this band. =D
😂😂😂 it's TRUE....
lol. For real
lmao they have had a few drummers and it all ended pretty badly.
Yes! More Trivium pls, such a great band. Their latest album 'Sin & the Sentence' is a beast.
they will lose their minds when they hear Alex on the drums!!
Alex is absolutely insane.
Trivium never disappoints. One of those bands you can count on. Another great reaction video guys! I love watching you guys take this journey through the metal world
weird they have disappointed me dozens of times.
Vengeance Falls and Silence definitely disappointed me, but I love Sentence. Shogun is still my favorite album of theirs and also one of my favorite albums in general.
That whole album is a masterpiece, and yes, Trivium is heavily influenced by Metallica.
That’s awesome that Matt himself contacted you guys! This entire album is def worth a play through from start to finish. IMO it’s easily one of the greatest albums written on a 7 string guitar.
Absolutely! This is an amazing album with such a high level of writing and composition.

Metal + Hip Hop for the win!
I can die happy now
Snow Subject why can you fuel happ now?? The production isn't as well as I would think.
You can shut up about that recommendation now xD

Pantera- Domination live in Moscow 1991
Estevan Ruiz yes please
Estevan Ruiz dom/hollow as well
Estevan Ruiz OMG yes_ssss
Gotta be live for sure
YES!
Hands down one of my favorite songs of all time. That bridge gets me everytime! Love ya guys. Thanks for this.
Mr. Bungle - Pink Cigarette
That's a good one. Mr. Bungle is god
Filip Damon I mean Quote Unquote...actually all of em.
Well, I prefer travolta too but anything from Mr. bungle is worth
I'd recommend them going with some Faith No More before digging into Mr Bungle.
Mark Hughes yeah, that's why I suggested Pink Cigarette. It's pretty bon abrasive.
Djared Djines will be proud of your djent knowledge.
Parker Styers But it’s not djent 😂
Man in the Box- Alice in Chains
Outshined- Soundgarden
Hot for Teacher- Van Halen
Something Wicked- Nuclear Assault
Matt is hands down the classiest dude in metal. Seeing him on Tuesday and this is literally the best pregame I could have hoped for haha 🤘🏼
Metal*
Not actual metal.
Same here, getting to meet the band before the show. So stoked!!!
Esteban Aguayo what is it then!
Esteban Aguayo Not metal? You sir, sound incredibly snobby.
Not a huge fan of Trivium and I have to agree. I saw them back in '09 with Whitechapel/Chimaira/Dirge Within and they were particularly cool and nice. Phant0mGetsuga993 pretty sure they would absolutely hate that song
I say do "capsizing the sea" followed by "in waves". They will go crazy over it! The right amount of build and energy, with the groove these cars look for
Luke C except they generally hate screams
Musically: maybe theyd dig it, but I think the vocals would completely turn them off of it
TOAOM123 While that's fair, I would say based on how they have covered and thoroughly enjoyed four of GOJIRA's songs, I can see them getting passed the screaming if the melody hits home for them. Plus Matt does sing in parts of In Waves to where it helps breaks up the screaming.
I agree that Pull Harder wouldn't be a good song for them.
Luke C hey: maybe you're right.
I love the songs so itd rock if they did too
Matt Heafy is a fucking awesome dude. He streams on Twitch and is always super excited about new people hearing his music. Such a class act.
Paul Westfall well said bro! But they are still the preeminent metalcore band
Shogun as an album i would just say is progressive metal.
But the guitar tone is definitely djenty, very spanky, bright, tight.
Well there first few albums are more of thrash albums than they turned to metalcore after shogun.
Dire Straits - Sultans of Swing
That whole album is golden. You should do Thorn between Scyla and Charybdis, Throes of Perdition or Into the Mouths of Hell we March!
Johan Ortiz Throes is amazing
Johan Ortiz, kirisute gomen, down from the sky. This album is a damn masterpiece.
Holy shit I can't believe you guys did one for this song. One of my absolute favorites of all time. Thank you!

Their last two albums aren't bad per se but after listening to Shogun Silence in the Snow and Sin and the Snow can't hold my interest. In Waves is awful and Vengeance Falls feels like they simplified their stuff.
Gary Pereira that can be understandable if you haven't seen them live lately but the latest songs fit well with the songs from the previous albums.
Ghost Love Score live at Wacken by Nightwish is a good choice for something different. Must be the live video though to get the full effect!
Xenophon agreed. That way they get the real deal. A band that is that Great in the studio and even BETTER Live is difficult to find.
Avenged Sevenfold - Buried Alive
Slipknot - (sic)
Thanks for the review, Just saw trivium live a couple nights ago and it was incredible.
Thank you for some more Trivium!!! Defiantly check out some stuff off their new album The Sin and the Sentence. Some of their finest work.
Tyxxvxl defiantly?
I am never stopping until this becomes a reality
*PANTERA-DOMINATION LIVE IN MOSCOW '91*
Also big love LiV all the way from Greece.
Locust - Machine Head (full version)
Also try SAVATAGE "Prelude to Madness/Hall of the Mountain King". One of the most underrated bands in the history of music but so good they didn't get very much credit until they created Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
also Morphine Child... it can easily be called the Bohemian Rhapsody of metal imho
Şamil Mazlum You can throw a dart at at a list of SAVATAGE songs and find an AMAZING song.
Alone you breathe
Criss Oliva apparently was, by a lot of guitarists accounts, the best guitarist alive except for Buckethead while he was still alive
Dean Smith Buckethead is still alive.... Chris Oliva was classically train as was Jon Oliva.
I refuse to give up. Megadeth HAngar 18 PLEASE!!. Love you guys :D

Demanufacture by Fear Factory. The sheer heaviness will blow your minds especially considering it was recorded 23 years ago.

Who’s the drummer....depends on the day of the week..
Gregory Blanton ooh shiettt
You speaking about The Black Dahlia Murder or Trivium here?
The new drummer is superior. From a song writing perspective and technical he ist just a beast
Thats cold😂

Throes of Perdition
Blind Guardian - Born in a mourning hall. Same producer as master of puppets and One. Ferocity of Megadeth riffs, with melody and one of the best vocalists ever.
Mirror Mirror, Bright Eyes
Bard's Song! :)

Pantera Cemetery Gates

:/
Yannick Messias Phil went "W-P" on them, I guess. 😡
How bad, they're really cool. Can you link here where have you seen that?
You guys throwing out shit like "Djent" and "palm muting on the guitar riffs" now! You've evolved! I love it! Thanks for the reaction!
and is isn't even their final form!
PANTERA - DOMINATION (Live in Moscow) DO IT PLEASE!!! Dimebag will melt your faces off with his solo! PLEASE!!!!
Brian Chapman why not the studio version? phils vocals are shit on this live performance.

Trivium - The Sin And The Sentence!!
Alex Selivanov ANYTHING FROM THAT ALBUM ESPECIALLY BETRAYER, BEYOND OBLIVION OR SIN AND THE SENTENCE!
Just the whole fucking album
Their new album is just fantastic. Every song is enjoyable.
The Sin and the Sentence... Uff... That song is epic!
Alex Selivanov the Wretchedness Inside!
Opeth - The Drapery Falls and Burden
I wanna see them react to The Drapery Falls, a "death metal" Opeth song followed by the more mellow Burden, a beautiful ballad with those soulful solos at the end.
If I had to pick one, it'd be Burden though. I don't think I've seen you guys react to a metal ballad before.
April Ethereal They absolutely need to do more Opeth!
Ew God no
Holy shit. I have been waiting for you guys to do this song. One of my all time favorite Trivium songs. Thank you YET AGAIN for making my morning

I'm glad Shogun is getting a lot of love from Trivium fans. I feel like it's an underrated album, but it certainly is one of their best.

Over the past couple of years, it seems to me that Heafy has been trying to become internet famous and he's been reaching out to other internet famous people, i.e his cringey bromance with Dines, his now defuct food blog and current Twitch adventure.
Trivium Betrayer! Crazy drums!
Super underrated song🤘🤘🤘
George breaking out "palm muting" (correctly, too)?! Awesome. You guys are the best and I wish I had learned the metal world as fast as you are progressing with it.
Would love a reaction/review of Living Colour's "Cult of Personality"! Thank you!
Thanks for finally doing this song! And yes, their original drummer is on this. I believe this was the last album he was on. He left I believe to love the family life
A Perfect Circle - TalkTalk
Tool - Vicarious
Volbeat - Still Counting
Puscifer - Telling Ghosts
Serithi one of these songs is not like the other
I grew the list over time :v
1. Tribal Convictions
2. Target Earth
3. Time Warp
Good songs as always, with some groovy structures on it.
"We are connecteeeeeed!!!!"
You've reacted to all the classics and mandatory songs except one...Pantera "Cowboys from hell". Metal heads expect this travesty to be corrected...Thank you
One of the best intros to a song I have ever heard.
TESSERACT - Of Matter (Live at Sphere Studios). Matt is dope! And so is this! Check it out guys!
Tool the pot!!!!!! This girl doesn't give up 😉🤣
fungifago they already covered 46 & 2
Tretre38 best tool song. Beeeeeest!

Alter Bridge - Open Your Eyes
Pantera - Cemetery Gates
Dream Theater - Under a Glass Moon
Passenger by deftones please!!!!!
YES, PLEASE!
They’ll love the groove for sure! Maynard slays in that song!!
So happy you reviewed this!! Listened to this album all through senior year in 09
Clutch - The Mob Goes Wild
Absolutely
Hey guys! I think you'd love the lyrics to Machine Head's Darkness Within.
Michael Morgan that's a great song but they didn't seem to dig Machine Head's staunch anti-religious ideology.
Matt is an amazing person, makes me really enjoy Trivium a lot. Love the reactions and choices you pick to do! If you do more Trivium look at Shattering The Skies Above or Like Light To The Flies.
Honestly anything from the Shogun album is great.
Check out Cemetery Gates by Pantera please!
Wow...you guys are awesome! Your reactions were mine when I first heard it! It is my all time favorite!
The Contortionist - Language I and II (This flows as one song)
Matt Heafy is the harsh and clean vocals and the lead guitarist. He is not just super talented but an all around classy guy. Love this band, love this song. Please react to femina x - Frida's heart.
MaddDogg316 Corey does a ton of leads as well.
MaddDogg316 Cory is lead guitarist
Corey only does additional screaming in live performances.
TheMetalWeasel Cory does a lot of the screams live but Matt is who you hear on studio versions and live Matt still does a lot of the screams.
Matt is mainly rhythm, Corey is the lead player, yes they dual off on solos sometimes but Corey is the main lead player.
Avenged Sevenfold - Strength of the World
The crazy thing is their new drummer is even better.
They would flip out for him. Bent is amazing
Sin and the sentence intro is amazing first time, Alex nailed that whole album
Their new album is awesome!! Finally a drummer to match the skill set and bring back the heaviness that was Trivium.
Opeth - To bid you farewell
Tool - The pot
Katatonia - July
Porcupine Tree - Anesthetize
aenima Yes!! You have to do porcupine tree.
G-Man yeah man especially anesthetize or arriving somewhere but not here, i bet they will like it!
aenima Agreed!
You have excellent taste
aenima ive been suggesting Katatonia for a long time. Id love to hear their reaction.
As I lay dying!!! Saved metal core! Listen to through struggle or parallels!!
Pantera - 5 minutes alone
