I think you're overlooking that fact that Zendaya tried having a southern accent in the first part of the movie, but then completely dropped it after they went to England.
MacKenzie :P yeah but did she have a wire attached to her when she did acrobatics no and she rarely used her stunt double actually she might not have used her stunt double
That Zendaya is sssssoooo badass she doesn't need a stunt woman and WHO CARES OF SHE STOPPED HER ACCENT I HAVE DONE THAT IN MUSICALS IN PRESTON GUILD HALL. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL!!!!
I really wish this movie had been more about the "freaks" working at Barnum's circus and less about a bunch of forced romance between characters that I didn't even really care about
The thing that really annoys me is that they make a really big deal about how Jenny Lind is an opera singer and then she puts on a show singing modern day pop.
I just wanna point out that Zefron ran back into the building to save specifically Zendaya. And therefore, she decided that if he was so willing to risk his life to protect her, then he must be serious about her and they could give their relationship a shot. I mean, he did the acrobatics and everything during Rewrite the Stars despite not knowing how just to impress her earlier, but that's obviously not a big enough clue how serious he was about her. Duh XD
If you look closely, you'll notice that Zac Efron's parents (don't remember the character name) were actually going up the stairs into the theatre and turned around when they noticed him. They were not leaving.
Barnum is actually the reason we use the word jumbo to denote something huge. Because of an elephant names Jumbo which was the first African elephant kept in captivity, which he bought from the London zoo. And of course, he claimed Jumbo was the largest elephant in the world, though he was only 24 years old, and male African elephants continue growing into their 40s. Jumbo died about a year later after being sideswiped by a train.
Despite its flaws, I adored this movie in its entirety. I do agree that something could have been done to make it known what Barnum was REALLY like as opposed to glorifying him. Though, wasn't this movie based on a play of the same name? I don't think it was entirely from scratch.
I love this movie but did anyone else notice how many fricking times zac and hugh took off the hats and scarves, then put them back on right after that during “the other side” scene?
I know but it gives a funny and amazing efect they keep on changing their minds to keep the song and going till one on the other makes a deal with each other
Ummm ok then why ate you here to tell everyone about your un wanted opinions. I Dont know if this is just me but I hated and hate the movie. And was forced to whatch it bu my mother so...
2:23 Actually, it is referring to the singular noun "million". The word 'dreams' is in a part of a collective noun and is therefore is not the subject to a verb.
My favorite character. He doesn't speak a word and is still very obviously supportive of Barnum. I dunno, maybe that's just his character, that he's supportive. But I kept getting distracted during The Other Side by how he was in sync with both of them, never got in the way but still managed to play a part in the number. Not to mention he wasn't sinned once.
@Anemone_Blue_Shell in the quiet place they did talk, or they used sign language, but even tho they didn't really talk much, the suspense of the movie made up for it.( ͡ ͜ʖ ͡ )
I think CinemaSins giving a humorous (and good natured) ribbing to a movie I love makes me enjoy this movie even more! Greatest Showman was one of the most entertaining musicals I've seen in a few years.
Katy Unruh her song had to be the bomb so they made it something people can sing along to. I can’t sing to opera except for in the shower but catch me singing Never Enough at the top of my lungs 4x a day.
Whatever you say ! Just enjoy watching greatest showman! Not more fact fact fact wrong wrong! Do you have a abilities to make a perfect movies! Then make it real
Elly then don’t watch? Why watch it lol. Many people don’t like musicals and he is one of them and people kept requesting it. What do you expect? Musicals are for people that enjoy theater style movies (you know what I mean) and movies that has good choreography and singing. So if you like it you’ll like the movie. Not many people enjoy it so if you don’t like how people react to musicals don’t watch it
I think the best way to describe "The Greatest Showman" is: a Great Musical but a terrible representation of real life events. I think I'll take the great Musical!
9:58 actually the parents were’nt actually leaving the theatre, earlier you could see them walking up the stairs and then turning around to see the pair
5:56 It's Professor Harold Hill, not Henry 9:38 Paris Green was an extremely vibrant shade of green created with copper and arsenic. Just like how there are so many accounts of women dying of 'broken hearts' during times of mourning, when they were just slowly being poisoned in the arsenic in the black dye (I think it was arsenic... it may have been something else)
Are we going to ignore the fact that at the beginning of the movie the “midget soldier’s” name was Charles then towards middle his name was Tom, I say SIN it
Charles Sherwood Stratton was his real name (he actually existed), but his stage name was 'General Tom Thumb'. He was extremely young when he started working for Barnum, and died of a stroke when he was only 45.
I honestly thought this movie was called the "greatest snowman". Coming 2017, is the worst horror movie ever, starring PT barnum as getting revenge on those who spit on his show by decapitaring them
8:26 Well, yeah. Thats the point. The movie is trying to show you how he forgot about his origins and is slowly becoming more and more lie everyone else. But eventually he sees what happened, and he understands who brought him to where he ie now. The line you said here is literally the conflict, its intentional
He was commenting on the fact that no one let lose the sandbags which would have pulled her up into the air, not the jump. No one was around to release that sandbag, but yet it still fell.
thats not what op is referring to though. in the video he states "if i wasnt asleep already i'd say something about the physics of that jump and catch we just saw." not talking about what he had already pointed out what you are saying. the jump and catch was a real stunt they did. again, not referring at all to what you are (i think) i could be wrong tho.
you never said that the little girl got on pointe shoes right away, even though in the real world ballerinas have to train for 5 or 6 years before being strong enough to go on pointe.
As an actual ballerina, I can in fact confirm you have to train for years and years to even relevé on pointe. Even after that, it takes another year or two to do more advanced things like pirouettes on pointe. Your ankles would probably immediately snap after going up on pointe if you put them on without years of practice. You also might not even be able to go up on pointe at all without building up the strength in your ankles.
lily wong oh that's so cool!!! I really dislike how movies always make it seem like you can put on some pointe shoes and immediately be perfect at ballet. Or just sit down and immediately be in the splits with no effort. Very annoying haha
Thank you, that was bugging me, too. It threw me at first, but the true subject is "million." Whichever is technically correct, people usually don't say "a million are."
“Million” is the adjective not the subject. The subject in that sentence is “dreams”. The reason why is that “a” is an article and “million” is an adjective (as previously mentioned) and in the English language adjectives and articles can’t be subjects. So that would mean the wrong verb was used since million can’t be a subject (I have an English teach for a father)
I think in this case "a million dreams" is a singular collective noun phrase. But "a million somethings" isn't ALWAYS a singular collective noun. One would say "a million dreams are in my head," not "a million dreams is in my head," because in this case it is not a singular collective noun. "Dreams" is the noun, and "a million" is an adjective describing how many dreams there are. However, "a million somethings" can definitely be a singular collective sometimes. It would be correct to say "a million dollars is the price," because "price" is singular and the noun phrases have to agree. In the sentence in question, "is" is a linking verb joining "a million dreams" and "all it's gonna take," so the real question here is whether "all it's gonna take" is singular or plural. "All" can be either, so we have to examine the rest of the phrase to know for sure. "It" is singular, which suggests the entire phrase is singular. But that analysis is somewhat shaky, in my opinion. In conclusion, despite having studied comparative grammar and having earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English, I can't say for sure what the right answer is. What I can say is that our grammatical rules are intended to allow us as English speakers to communicate without disagreeing on what our words or phrases mean. In my opinion, the difference between "a million dreams is" and "a million dreams are" is negligible, because both phrases are unambiguous enough as to not cause any confusion to the hearer. So as far as I'm concerned, the answer is "it doesn't matter." And that means it qualifies as a sin.
@@jeremymiller1846 Dude you wrote three fucking paragraphs. You should have just said it's a fucking sin. However I think the real sinner is the English language because of how extra and confusing it's grammar is.
@@alexandertristano2640 please don't ever think about learning german... we germans love to speak english simply because of how... simple the grammar is :D
This is a story, not a biography about Barnum. Barnum was just used as a shell to tell a story about a showman and his struggles that has an amazing soundtrack.
Even then, I thought the story was pretty cliche and average. It followed the narrative of a guy who starts out as a nobody who wants to be somebody, finally makes his way into the world, becomes the type of person he hates while also alienating his friends and family, and then realizes he had everything he ever needed in the end. The music was indeed incredible though.
The question I have then, is why Barnum? Why not go whole hog and make a fictional character? A lot of the film's baggage could be forgotten if you did something like that.
Agreed, the diference is that they are better movies, like, in my opinion the greatest showman didnt work out the characters that well, you know? Like, they didnt focus on the more interesting things, just the meh ones
"A Million Dreams Is All It's Going To Take" is in the correct subject verb agreement because the sentence starts off with "a million". Take off a sin for your own misunderstanding of the grammar. Edit: Whoa thanks for the likes guys haha! Didn't know it would get this high!
Fluffy Dumpling wrong, dreams is the subject, the -s and number “million” assume multiplicity, so the article “a” and verb “is” is incorrect because they refer to singularity. The grammar in the song is shit

Honestly this show makes me hate this show. I get it, it’s a joke and it’s supposed to be good natured but sorry can’t get into it it’s a fun movie and this channel shits on all the movies.
If you watch the scene in the bar closely. Jackman isn't drinking the shots poured. Zacman on the other hand. All the shots. Edit. Jackman has one shot.
13:16 If you actually watched the movie, Phillip ran into the fire because he thought Anne was stuck in there. He ran in, risking his life to save her, and *thats* what allowed her to truly fall in love with him. I'm sorry the way you sinned that scene was upsetting.
I'm surprised there wasn't a sin for the Opera singer not singing ANY Opera whatsoever in this whole fking movie. That was my absolute biggest pet peeve in the whole movie. Otherwise I loved the music and the movie
Cecili T She was singing opera from the point of view of the characters, it was just different from our points of view so that it would be a bigger hit with modern society. Didn’t you notice the other songs would not be sung in that time period either?
TheDeadlyMedley well my thing is not that's it's periodically inaccurate it's that everyone in the movie "classified" her for Opera and I was expecting an opera style song to come from her and I honestly wouldn't have minded I was looking forward to it.
(Not so) fun fact: Chang and Eng, the original Siamese twins, retired from the freak show business and later became slave-owning plantation workers themselves. Funny how exploitation breeds exploitation.
You get to see PART of whatbthe movie is like. I like these too, but there have been times in the past when they were wrong about something, or just give it that particular sin for the sake of jokes. I still like watching these, just take it with a grain of salt.
The music in this movie is actually amazing, and I wanted you to remove more sins for that, but then I remembered how all the music is totally wasted on a plot that isn’t that interesting in a movie that is glorifying someone who in real life was a bad person, and claiming to be telling his story. I would’ve loved this movie if it was told from literally ANY other character’s perspective than Barnum himself. Or they could’ve just made the whole thing fictional and not a representation of something in real life. It could be more like a fairytale of how the first circus came to be and the main characters could be actual good guys... Anyway, sorry that this turned into a rant, my point is; great music was wasted on a mediocre (at best) and controversial movie.
i watched the wreck it ralph sins video and the guy admitted it was one of his favourite movies. sinning/criticising movies doesn't mean you don't like them or that they're rubbish. it means you're criticising them. there is a difference. also, irony people. chill
his complaints about this movie are mostly about the real character and some of his life story, basically the bad portions of it. Very little of this video is actually about the film that was shown it's like if every sin in the lord of the rings movies was "the book was better" it's pointless and just boring after the 3rd or 4th instance of it.
Amen to this comment. He criticizes this movie for all the ridiculous petty things like singing in what is very obviously a MUSICAL kind of movie, but completely misses the fact that the opera singer never sang opera. Tbh that still bothers me to this day. They spend a while building up all this anticipation that it's some amazing opera singer and the performance itself isn't even sung in opera style. What the heck?!
Strange thing is, if this film was historically accurate and was dark af, it would've been hell of allot more interesting and engaging. Could even go for a dark comic route, something Tarantino-esc.
and people would complain about it being too grim and non-friendly to young adults or kids. They'd say that the main character is an asshole who is encouraging people to be racist and bigoted.
RPGMaster Exactly. This is Hollywood. If they where going to have a main character at all, he must be seen as in the right. Or if P.T. was the villain? Remains faceless, never mentioned having a family, unknown actor playing him ... Only in Hollywood is the world truly *just* black and white.
@@BeccaBender37 No, it shouldn't. "Million" is, in this situation, being categorized as a singular noun. Both are grammatically correct, but only one properly fits the situation: the one that the 80 million dollar mainstream Disney movie got correct--not you, or the cash-grabbing, 40-year-old, exploitative degenerate narrating this video.
One of those Sins is false... "Is" is being used in relation to "A Million;" singular. "A Million is." A million what? "Dreams." Love these vids. However, if you're going to be nit-picky, then reap it.
Sins should have been removed each time there was a musical number or choreography. I can understand sinning the story or the real life person, but this was a beautiful movie.
The major historical inaccuracies, A Million Dreams lasting for a million years, and the fact that Come Alive and This is Me are basically the same song were the major sins that prevented me from enjoying this movie. I was also comparing it to Les Misearables.
When this movie came out I had just suffered a major loss. I decided to go to the theater to get my mind off of it and asked the ticket person to recommend something that would make me forget about the troubles of life. She chose this movie. I had seen part of a trailer before going in. During the song A Million Dreams I cried my eyes out. I don’t exactly know what it was about the song but it made me so sad but also so much more hopeful about my future. So yeah. The movie had its flaws. It’s definitely glorifying PT Barnum. But the songs and the stories behind them made this the beloved classic that it is. People are still listening to these songs today. That’s what OP was talking about. I feel bad for anyone who can’t see this.
@Sarah Collins That's the problem. Les Miserables was fantastic. Because Hugh Jackman was the lead in this musical, I was expecting the same level of period piece accuracy + social commentary + musical variety + execution of singing all lines that Les Mis had to offer.
Tacosareyummy Yeah, but I'm not going far below the level of this channel. Obviously, it was probably never a common thing, but I do think it existed, and I do think that at least a small amount of preliminary Googling is better than just a feeling that it didn't exist. At least I have some source. But granted, the goal of this channel is comedy, not education, so this is just needless nitpicking at this point.
This movie had potential. If they didn't censor it, added a lot more depth to all the storylines, and included some moral dark sides, it would have been good. I understand it is a musical, but all character development and conflicts were resolved through cheerful singing, which left the story hollow.
Soviet Wanderer as you said it was a musical, musicals are never about the plot or character development because it mainly just serves to create a setting for an aesthetic scene filled with cheerful songns
Quick question. Are you a fan of marvel or dc universe? Yah, you're right - doing all those things would've made the movie more memorable but I'm glad they didn't do it. This movie was light and fun and I prefer that more.
I dunno, I still thought he was kind of an asshole in the film, like when he didn't let the performers into the fancy party, leading to the This Is Me song.
Melinda Cervone He most certainly was not, the dude paid people to watch an autopsy about a dead woman in his show who was supposedly 180 years old and turns out she wasn't 180 and he just conned everyone of their money, that ain't really something a "good person" would do
I think part of her not singing opera was that Barnum was trying to make her seem more American and appeal to Americans. So he probably decided it was better for her to sing a different type of song.
Think OP was referring to the fact that the Jenny Lind in the movie wasn't singing opera? The original Jenny Lind was part of why Opera came to the US in the first place, or so I've read.
That upset me so much. World famous soprano opera singer. Sings a generic modern pop ballad. Better yet the actress wasn't the one singing, someone else's voice was dubbed over and the singer was an alto not a soprano. Just, yikes guys the one chance to put in an actual period-fitting song and you failed.
Probably one of my favourite movies, even though it might not be accurate as to his intentions and personality but it's such a great musical in my opinion.
"There's a sucker born every minute" wasn't actually PT Barnum's quote, it was one of his competitors', after Barnum one-upped him with the whole petrified man spectacle he completely fabricated. Otherwise, yes, you're right on every account. Though his "exhibits" were payed extremely handsomely for the time.
If you ever see a famous old quote, something about it is almost always misquoted, at least when it's become a saying in common speech like this one has. As well as "Separation of church and state" (so many mix-ups with that one) and "You can't eat your cake and have it too".
Despite being an exploitative asshole in most general terms, Barnum actually did pay all of his performers well for the time and far more than they would have received outside of the circus. He was also reputedly a fierce campaigner for equality and civil rights during his tenure in politics, exclaiming that "every soul was equal under God. (or words to that effect, you'd have to look up the actual quote.) He was also famous for exposing frauds and charlatans and hated people who falsely prayed on peoples feelings like soothsayers and psychics. I'm not defending what he did, he exploited the vulnerable and lower classes of the time for personal fame and fortune but considering that pretty much describes every business owner in the 1800's, he did try to at least balance the scales a bit as well given the time he lived.
He never had any slaves or kidnapped people in his shows or circus. Joyce Heth wasn't a slave when Barnum toured with her act, her compensation was that she received constant care which she required as a blind paralyzed elderly woman. Without someone like Barnum, or the show producer before him which he bought her act from, she would have been in severe trouble.
Meanwhile I'm here still waiting for The Grand Budapest Hotel. I'll be married with 5 kids, living in the suburbs with a white picket fence at this rate.
You didn't say which movie will be sinned next week. But with Black Panther released on Blu-Ray today, I have hope (but maybe it's still too early for this one)

Hopefully the sequel I'm hearing rumors about will focus more on the oddities. There's so many I'd like to meet and see more of!
Yea, I even tried Googling them and could only find the main ones. I'm curious about the albinos and the trans! I want to know about ALL of them!!!
Ashley Christine wait trans? Am I missing something here I did not know one of the ‘freaks’ were trans
yesyesyesyes! The freaks have so much more 'interesting' potential than the vanilla pudding the film ends up serving us.
Duh XD

DragonFae16 thats really sad

Despite its flaws, I adored this movie in its entirety. I do agree that something could have been done to make it known what Barnum was REALLY like as opposed to glorifying him. Though, wasn't this movie based on a play of the same name? I don't think it was entirely from scratch.

My favorite character. He doesn't speak a word and is still very obviously supportive of Barnum. I dunno, maybe that's just his character, that he's supportive. Are we going to ignore the fact that at the beginning of the movie the “midget soldier’s” name was Charles then towards middle his name was Tom, I say SIN it
They never explain it but the actual person the character is based off of was given the stage name "General Tom-Thumb" so that's probably why
This movie was created over a period of 7 years
I think his name was Charles but the name of his act for the circus was Tom Thumb. Aka Tom Thumb was his stage name.
If it ain’t the same, put it down the drain
Charles Sherwood Stratton was his real name (he actually existed), but his stage name was 'General Tom Thumb'. He was extremely young when he started working for Barnum, and died of a stroke when he was only 45.

you never said that the little girl got on pointe shoes right away, even though in the real world ballerinas have to train for 5 or 6 years before being strong enough to go on pointe.
FR THATS WHAT I ALWAYS THOUGHT WHEN WATCHING THE MOVIE but no one cares to learn or go in depth w ballet
Art by a Mushroom yes, i am an actual ballerina as well lol.

The only dabbing I will except.
"A Million Dreams IS all it's gonna take", is actually right. That's a mistake for you . :)

Or they could’ve just made the whole thing fictional and not a representation of something in real life. kay harris This just made my day! 😂 I love Les Mis!
Why did no one point out pt stole bread which the other hugh jackman musical lead (jean valjean) did rather iconically
2:22 The line "A million dreams is all it's gonna take" in the song is grammatically correct.
Exactly. Are they suggesting in the video that it should be "a million dreams are all it's gonna take"? Now that would be grammatically incorrect.
I literally scrolled through the comments just to find this, because you know, I have a life
you are not alone my friend
Brendan Kirk Same
Ruizu i know! It’s not wrong!!
3:37 Actually, fopdoodle was an insult from the period that meant a clumsy or stupid person. Ding.
Ah good googling skills. You do realize basically everything on the internet is fake?
Tacosareyummy Yeah, but I'm not going far below the level of this channel. Obviously, it was probably never a common thing, but I do think it existed, and I do think that at least a small amount of preliminary Googling is better than just a feeling that it didn't exist. At least I have some source. But granted, the goal of this channel is comedy, not education, so this is just needless nitpicking at this point.
Fopdoodle! It exists because Tacosareyummy exists.
Fopdoodle isn’t the same as Flop doodle...
He heard wrong.
When you realize that hes going to the actual history of PT Barnum instead of sinning the actual movie because this movie is flawless
Look Outside...
*aggressively points to Hamilton, dear Evan Hansen, and heathers*
Look Outside... Uh what? Lol. Clearly you don't know much about musicals...
Ever so slightly annoyed that he didn't put 'Breaking Free' from High School Musical over 'Rewrite the Stars'
"The Greatest Showman" or as it should have been called "What If P.T. Barnum Wasn't A Terrible Person: The Movie"
MisterZed EXACTLY
MisterZed he was a good guy tho
I dunno, I still thought he was kind of an asshole in the film, like when he didn't let the performers into the fancy party, leading to the This Is Me song.
Melinda Cervone He most certainly was not, the dude paid people to watch an autopsy about a dead woman in his show who was supposedly 180 years old and turns out she wasn't 180 and he just conned everyone of their money, that ain't really something a "good person" would do
Melinda Cervone he definitely lost what he was going for throughout the movie but I don’t understand why everyone thinks he was a horrible person...
Him: why not go visit?
Me: its a girl only school...Guys (other than that mail guy) are forbidden, pretty much :/
you forgot that the “world famous opera singer” DOESNT EVEN SING OPERA! SHES LITERALLY NOT EVEN SINGING OPERA!
Kate Ravenscroft maybe she’s famous for opera but that’s not what Barnam asked her to do
I think part of her not singing opera was that Barnum was trying to make her seem more American and appeal to Americans.
I *LOVED* this movie, but that bit bothered me so badly. That wasn't even close to opera, it was a pop ballad
Probably one of my favourite movies, even though it might not be accurate as to his intentions and personality but it's such a great musical in my opinion.
The music is definitely amazing.
Exactly my thoughts
Finally a good comment
Sherwin Celeste that’s your opinion but I think it’s an amazing movie.
Sherwin Celeste hm. Well I’ve seen the movie exactly 30 times and haven’t seen much of cringe in it but maybe that’s just me
"There's a sucker born every minute" wasn't actually PT Barnum's quote, it was one of his competitors', after Barnum one-upped him with the whole petrified man spectacle he completely fabricated.
Micah Philson i know general thumb was paid very well. But did he pay the slaves or people k8dnapped into the circus ...
Micah Philson i
Despite being an exploitative asshole in most general terms, Barnum actually did pay all of his performers well for the time and far more than they would have received outside of the circus.
There should be a sin because the critic would be great at cinemasins
Underrated comment.
"19th century dabbing" Lmao
Meanwhile I'm here still waiting for The Grand Budapest Hotel. I'll be married with 5 kids, living in the suburbs with a white picket fence at this rate.
Let's all upvote this!
Did someone said Budapest!? BOJLER ELADÓ!!!
Hopefully he does it
Twimbo why this is t higher I do not know
As if anyone could afford a suburban house with 5 kids
You didn't say which movie will be sinned next week. But with Black Panther released on Blu-Ray today, I have hope (but maybe it's still too early for this one)
I guess he will sin Black Panther the week Ant-Man and the Wasp is released
neamiah donnell it’s not that serious
David Medrano When white people get attacked in broad daylight by mind of black black panther fans, I think this indeed serious.
neamiah donnell You're a spineless basement dweller who I don't believe is a black man. That story was proven faked by many official sources. Maybe go in the natural light one day and have an actual conversation with a black person instead of learning everything you know about them from fox news and fake internet stories. It may turn out nice.
sombodi200 Is a black man who hates what his race has become so impossible to a single minded, self centered sheep like yourself that you'd react like a 10 year old basket case?
Sooooo....
“A million dreams is.....”. Is actually correct. Because the noun (subject) is “million”, determined by the article “a” - singular. Therefore it is prior grammar to say, “A million is”. ❤️
One more sin:
That girl is on her first ballet class and ALREADY on pointe?! You need like multiple YEARS of practice for pointe!
Yeah, I hate how movies love to include ballet in their movies despite knowing nothing about ballet
