Both cars that I drive tend to have me getting chased but I have to drive each of them very differently. My s-10 is a 6.20 car and I tend to dial pretty honest when my opponent is faster. But in the top sportsman car I drive I’m one of the slower cars in the class at 5.1s usually I have opponents running 4.70s or faster in that instance I like to drag out my starting line routine a little bit and dial up .02-.04 and rip it 2-3 times in the lights to get rid of the et and I’ve noticed a lot of these guys dial honest because usually their out a couple little numbers and I think my average would be .005-.01 above. Ended up 9th out of 50 cars in points this year so not to shabby for the first time in the class. Love the videos man keep up the great work!
Goood stuff tom.as a 580 door car its almost a given that most dragsters got a number or two in thier pocket.cant tell you how many times i have giving a race back by letting out of the throttle .that being said i dial super honest and stay in it and trust my car to do the job for me if im late i have lost.if im good on the tree i win.nothing hurts my feelings more than giving back a round when a dragster dumps out hoping ill break out..great content in all your posts thanks.stayn on the floorboard, come get me!!
Love this content! I’m typically in the other boat dialed 6.20’s in super pro. I tend to employ the spot drop to make my package look good hoping a dragster will breakout or get way behind
Nice vid keep up the good work and just for advice if you're racing 1/8 of a mile racing just say if hes running 6.20s and you're running 4.80s if you're at half car right before the MPH mark you'll most likely 88% catch him just for the heads up
I do know at the track I race at, I dial 4.80s and most opponents are dialed slower. Some will dial honest and some will hold one or two numbers so they can dump you at the end. I am sure this happens a lot across the whole bracket racing scene. If I see their nose dropping too soon I know i will have to stay in the gas a tick longer before I dump them and 60-70 percent of the time I will take the stripe and the win. Still working on my stripe racing especially at night when it is much harder to see the stripe. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving and maybe see you at Cedar Falls big race next year!
This video is awesome for one these tips are so helpful and for two it’s cool to see a real time example! Crazy enough I had just the reverse situation in the final of the first RC race I won. We run these cars in 132ft and they run 2.00 to 3.50 seconds depending. My car was running great all day that day 2.98 was the best it ran so going into the final I knew who I was racing watched him all day. So I dialed 2.97 knew the car was not likely but could run that and my opponent dialed a 2.75 i was gonna get chased so I did ok in the tree and being that I was not chasing I stick to a rule my dad has taught me and this is run it out the back door! Tree came down and I went then his tree and he went. At the stripe I ended up 3 above and he broke out by 1. With these cars you are behind them the whole time and best thing to do is stay in it because judgement is hard when it comes to the stripe. Personally I feel that in that situation the best thing to dial is thinking the car will break out it works pretty well.
It’s very interesting to hear about and think about the parallels between big car and RC car bracket racing. I need to go somewhere and watch the RC cars one day 😁👍
I run 6.30's, so I leave first about 90% of the time. I rarely chase anyone "a lot" slower. Cool video though, definitely gives me something to think about.
Alot of the time, if im in a race with more than a second and a half difference, i'll hold 2 hun and spot drop for dead on or close unless i clearly have enough room to rip
I just dial .01 down unless I get a high thousandth number from the previous run. Try and set my box for .01 and let it rip then make a decision by the mph lights on what I want to do at the line when I’m the slow car. Typically though against rails I just stay in it because I should be at worse .01 off. If I’m the faster car I do the same on dial but usually roll an extra thousandth or two in the box.
Little late to the party on this video. The last eighth for my truck was an 11.52, yes you did read that right. My strategy comes down to if I'm running eighth or quarter. Eighth I tend to dial honest because I can't drop it reliably with the et difference. Quarter I usually hold about a tenth because my automatic just isn't consistent outside of the 1-2 shift and I have more room to judge the closing speed
Hey bud I watch all Your videos and love them. I do a lot of foot break racing and always struggle at the finish line. but I do have one question? I watch you, drop your visor right at the light is dropping, why is that?
I guess it’s just an habit mostly. I like to see the tree with the visor open most of the time, the. It’s just a habit i have of closing it after I floor the car. It’s just a routine, there’s no real reason for doing it at that particular time.
Thanks for the response. I thought maybe it was a lil trick lol. The strategy I use at the tree is wearing dark sun glasses during the day and at night I switch my visor to a dark one. It takes the glair out the bulb. But I go off bottom bulb. Anyway love your videos
I'm 6.40. If I'm running a much faster car I'll hold two. I'll rip twice at 330 (I know that usually kills .02). The faster car will see an exaggerated rate of closure and usually give it back. Your thoughts ???
Do you think you were actually .015 safe on this one? Can't imagine scrubbing .035 in the middle between the MPH box and the finish line. That's where your RPMs drop.
I hate the whole "dump um and pray" stragity. I tend to just trust my number and run it out the back door, with a big ET difference they will almost certainly run it out the back door making it more likely they breakout anyway.
Is there a scenario where you feel the slower car has an advantage over the faster car? Let’s take last weekend’s race in Vegas at the street car super nationals where I was able to run in electronics with 7 and 8 second dragsters and door cars with a 2020 charger rental car dialed 14.20s.
IMO a super slow door car that is good on the tree and runs consistently has a major advantage. Lots of slow cars are going to be chasing when they rarely/never chase people, and those that are used to chasing are going to be coming up on you so fast, that they can't do anything.
Better. Watch out Amanda might. Be taken. 1your ride from. You she will be your relief driver. Congrats to Amanda you. Did. Great. Keep up your. Great. Work..
If I know somone is trying to pull strategy #2 (dialing up) on me I'll hold a few and dump the shit out of them at the stripe trying to force a break out. This puts you looking at a moving target good luck judging a moving target when you're dialed up like that. It's not a good plan on your part if your opponents knows what you normally dial.
Great topic. 99%of the races are behind me. So you method will work most of the time. What do you do when the slo car sprays and drops you on your head ?? Just sayin.
If you're putting in a bogus dial-in up, isn't that cheating? I've seen guys do this the most when they have the slower car, so that they can build in a head start, and then pedal at the end in order to stay ahead of the other car.
@@GallStarTV First off, I'm not trying to be a dick here. It's a serious question. Obviously "you can dial what you whatever", but It just seems that if you build in a handicap in order to get a "head start", even with your own ET, that that is cheating. A true drag race is balls-to-wall, wide open ALL THE WAY and the better man wins. Dial in's were put in place because drivers were sandbagging. By putting in a bogus dial in on the board that gives a driver room to play with at the end of the track and is creating another sandbagging scenario. I guess call it what you want. Put lipstick on a pig, it's still a pig. Strategy is a nice way of saying cheating. But if everyone can do it, it comes down to who can cheat the best, rather than who is the better driver.
I feel like if you rolled up beside a slower car with 5.xx on the board, that guy is gonna start cranking that fresh nitrous bottle open just for you! Lol
Get out of the dragster, And get into a door car! It will be totally different for you, Then and only then! when you master that, Then you are on your way to the top.
@@GallStarTV Agreed. And thanks for all the fantastic videos! But if you can run a 4.77 and dial a 5.40 (I believe that's what you said in the video) how will you know how to get back? That's a long way off.
@@neptasur I get what you’re asking now! So in that case my mind would shift strategies away from “get back to dead on” and toward “take double 00”. One down side to dialing that far up is that I’m pretty sure everyone on the property would know what your up too.. which is probably why you don’t see it done too often. But if I were in that situation (dialed 5.40 but on a 4.77) there would only be one strategy: crush the tree, and take double 00. The idea is that dialing up that far allows you the time and track position to match MPH with your opponent so that you CAN take double 00 (or at least have a much easier shot at it). I hope that all made sense!!
Love these kinds of videos, for someone who is moving from jrs to big cars and questioning some certain scenarios
Glad you enjoy Gage!! Good luck in the big car! 🤘

I'm a 7.60 car off the top, I'll either dial dead on or dial down .01 depending what my time runs look like. Has worked good this year.
High 7 sec car off the top are nasty I rather run a 4.50 dragster then a 7.60 doorcar and I’m in a 5.90 doorcar

I just closed my eyes and hoped. lol. I usually dailed my game. Pretty honest, or throwing some tators close. I do miss having a dragster.

I am a newbie to bracket racing. Should I dial honest until I can start getting a feel for gauging the time differences you are talking about?
Alot of the time, if im in a race with more than a second and a half difference, i'll hold 2 hun and spot drop for dead on or close unless i clearly have enough room to rip
Why do dragsters always dial exactly 1 second faster than me when they are chasing me? my car is pretty consistently 8.90 - frustrating.
I seem to do better when I stay honest. But I'm old to. 😃. Great video.
Great video !! The in car footage as you analyze is Great.
