This video brought back a lot of memories. My dad used to buy a lot of mullet every year and do a fish fry with it and he was always so excited to find one with roe in it. It was something that he looked forward to every year. Thank you for sharing and great video!
You ain't from around here are ya!!! Don't bust the roe outta the sack. Separate the two tubes, salt them good, roll em around in some Hoover's corn meal, let em sit a couple of minutes, drop em in hot grease and cook em good an done. Great appetizer. Very rich so you kaint eat a lot of em. Leave em in the fridgerater overnite fer a snack the next day. Dip em in some ketchup and Louisiana hot sauce, or krystals, and ....DAYUM!!!
never had mullet roe, but we eat speckled trout roe all the time, down here south of New Orleans! gotta love the south and all of our amazing fisheries the good lord provided us with!
You should try the mullet roes fried. Just fry them with the skin with some seasoning and nothing else. They will be done when the little eggs inside get dry. They are great to have in small rolls with cold beer. That's the way we eat them in the south of Brasil.
I would have to agree with Andrew. In certain cultures, people eat, and enjoy a lot of different cuisines. He has eaten lots of stuff I would not touch, like Chitlins. In my opinion they are properly named that, because there is still some Chit in there.
I really enjoy your challenge videos. They are alot of fun. Some are not so easy to do...i also enjoy seeing you with your dad. It's nice to see when a father and son really enjoy a certain sport or sports so much and have a great time with each other. It's very heart warming..keep up the great work....
When I lived in Biloxi, Mississippi we would catch Mullets on a small treble hook with a small piece of bread on it with a small bobble about 2 inches from the hook. When the fish bite it you reel in litely or you’ll pull it out of there mouth. Also we would eat the Gizzard inside the Fish,it’s a small round ball and you slice it in half and clean the mud inside it and fry it up.
Hey man I was watching thinking you had a couple hundred thousand subscribers.. Great quality and exciting videos. Keep it up man! I'll be happy to say I've been a subscriber at only 1000 subs when you get a couple hundred thousand!
I really love fried fish roe, though I've never had mullet roe. I've enjoyed fried flounder roe quite a bit though, and I really like salmon and flying fish roe sushi. The Japanese actually take salted cod roe and one of the things they do with it is use it to make a spaghetti sauce, and it's really pretty good.
I've eaten it just the way you fixed it but the roe he ate was salted then rinsed and then pressed and dried. It's a bit different than what you fixed but tastes kind of salty/sweet. Thanks for the great vid.
in ancient egypt they age mullets in rock salt in barrels ( it's called "fesikh") to be served with colored eggs, bread, fresh green fava bean and green chickpeas to celebrate easter "spring" by eating from last year goods and new spring greens. egyptians today eat it year around, not too much in the summer, we eat it fried or baked as casserole. mullets been a big part of egyptian civilization diet.
You can leave the thin skin on when you roll it in the fish fry powder of your choice. It'll keep it all together while you fry it. It's a one in a kind flavorful taste. I used to fry it up and eat it all the time. And you know, over here in Texas i still do, but I've told my buddies and they give me a weird look. Andrew Zimmerman doesn't know what he's missing. Can't wait to go see my parents in Florida.
Yours was fresh and prepared nice and clean and your seasoning was better I'm not defending ANDREW cause I watch that episode but they just breaded it with plain seasoning I had it the first time I could not stomach it but the second time I cook it my way and loved it
Bass and panfish roe is delicious as well. I normally leave the roe sack in tact and deep fry. try whiting roe as well. Also try male roe from mullet. It is actually very good.
I would eat mullet roe. I've eaten fluke (summer flounder) roe after the whole fish (minus the innards and gills) was steamed in ginger, scallion, garlic, soy sauce, black beans, and finally drizzled with a hot oil so that the fish sizzles momentarily. Mmmm mmm...delicious!
Brant I just completed all of your taste test videos. They are really good. and my wife and I have discovered some good tasting fish that we assumed were not good. Especially liked the one on Jacks. love to catch them, but now I know how to cook them, thanks to you. We live and fish in Southport NC, but go to the Sebastian Inlet twice a year. Good luck in your future, ,,and post more videos!!
love your videos your an incredible angler and an amazing inspiration to me but give Milltown and bagdad the the credit it deserves...you know that's not pcola.
You are 100% right. I had a gopro hero 4 with skeleton housing but dropped it in the water a few weeks ago. Best buy gave me the hero 5 and the sound quality is terrible.
I miss pensacola, it without a doubt the best place I've ever visited. I lived there from 2013 to 2016. I moved here to Virginia back in September. It's nothing like pensacola, watching your vids brings back my best memories. keep up the great vids.
Zimmern also can't stomach walnuts, or drink mule milk, but he can eat eggs and mystery meat that have been laying out in the sun for a week. Go figure. But try that mullet roe raw. You'll probably do the same thing zimmern did. Cooked, put a few red onions on top.
dude, we dont skin the roe before we fry it. oh , and if you really want something good , wrap it in bacon and smoke it. still has the same mullet roe effect in the digestive tract though
RIGHT BRANT.. whats his problem with eating mullet from nw fl, where were from ive aeen him eat and like it in other countries..he needs explain what his problem with us...skip me watching his program..!
Are you guys kidding me? Mullet roes are highly, highly prized in Japan, Taiwan and Italy. They are considered the caviar of the Orient. Just go ahead and research it yourself. You'll soon know what I mean.
I grew up in Milton, FL and I swear this guy is fishing on the bridge in a area of Milton, FL called Baghdad. I would love to know if im correct or not, please respond.
Benjamin Nelson yeah the creek by taco bell is called “pond creek” and the park right there is mayo park. damn its a small world thats crazy lol i thought i recognized it. Here's sumthin else tuh try. Inside the mullet is a small knot bout thuh size uv uh quarter. Cut it out, stick yur nife in thuh hole in thuh middle an cut outwards. Shave thuh squiggelldy lookin membrane off thuh inside, throe it uhway. clean up thuh uhther part real good. Roll it around in that same Hoover's corn meal an drop hit in the same hot grease. Keep up those taste tests if there's anything left to test. They're a lot of fun!

We always eat the roe. Fry them up just like you do the fish. Different taste but still delicious.
I love mullet roe! What’s up Brant!
You are supposed to eat it with scrambled eggs! SE NC guy knows how it is done!
Do you have any roe this year ? I haven't been able to find any in Jackson Co. Ms. and will drive to you to get some. White and yellow. Thanks
Bass and panfish roe is delicious as well. I normally leave the roe sack in tact and deep fry. try whiting roe as well. Also try male roe from mullet. It is actually very good.

It's a delicacy in Asia too, salted and dried in the sun.

The Japanese soak the eggs in sweet soy sauce and saute it in the marinade. Enjoy with rice.

Should have ate some white roe too!
Mullet roe is one of the best things on earth.
have you try the horse shoe crab egg,you can boiled or grilled them.but be careful not to eat their stomach content.
Is the fish edible besides the roe, or does it taste like crap.
Love the taste videos
I miss pensacola, it without a doubt the best place I've ever visited. I lived there from 2013 to 2016. I moved here to Virginia back in September. It's nothing like pensacola, watching your vids brings back my best memories. keep up the great vids.
U DAMNED RIGHT IT'S AWESOME.
You have to split the mullet down the back so you don't bust the egg sacks open. Then fry it whole!
Zimmern also can't stomach walnuts, or drink mule milk, but he can eat eggs and mystery meat that have been laying out in the sun for a week. Go figure. But try that mullet roe raw. You'll probably do the same thing zimmern did. Cooked, put a few red onions on top.
James Ritchie he also couldn't do Dorian in Thailand lol
is the bubba blade as good as the commercials say it is?
Have you done a pinfish catch and taste?
Fishing SouthWest Florida they taste great! The skin is thick. They have large bones for their size so that makes it easier to eat.
dude, we dont skin the roe before we fry it. oh , and if you really want something good , wrap it in bacon and smoke it. still has the same mullet roe effect in the digestive tract though
Why not cast net

Eaten row all my life.
With grits and eggs
Get some salmon roe and do a taste test comparison
It's easier when you use a very small treble hook with bread or hotdog
Joshua Wherritt If I wanted to catch a bunch of them I'd just throw the next. We snatch them because it's challenging.
Frying is not the only way) look up bottarga. Great videos btw
Interesting. I just looked it up. They don't do it that way where I'm from but Id be up for trying it.
I live on 9 mile in pcola and I have some curing in the fridge right now :)
