    I watched this a while back on my phone and couldn't comment, but I'm just back here to say: this was strangely really motivating. The way you're not pushing yourself to work constantly and encourage yourself to take frequent breaks and talk to friends is really refreshing especially on RUclips where hustle culture has become a very prevalent thing.

      Two years later, this video had the exact same affect on me! I'm also an unschooler, and have been filling my days to the brim lately. This video was a good reminder to slow down, and leave time for rest and socialization.

    I unschool my kids and it’s becoming more popular to do it. I think this new generation is awesome and it will be led by unschoolers.

      Lead how, exactly? Lead with the ideology that you’re teaching that they should be able to do whatever you want, whenever they want, without discipline or regard for the needs of society as a whole? Because that’s what this “radical unschooling” teaches. Life won’t revolve around and coddle your kids to allow them to live without structure and still succeed. You’re basically setting them up for failure in the real world that doesn’t care about your feelings.

    • @dumbphonemom

      @@EmilyElizabethxox First of all… Did you even watch the video? Just the demeanor of this kid tells you all you need to know about unschooling. Second, I never used the word “radical” and it’s not what I do with my children. Lastly, your whole comment reflects your lack of knowledge on this topic. Read some books about it, meet with unschooling families, then form an informed opinion of it before judging the parental decisions of others.

    If you NEED college/university for the career you're looking at, do what you need to do. However, as a 51 yo (former schoolteacher!) I'm telling you that MOST of the info the trad. school curriculum teaches is GONE out of your brain by the age of 30, unless it's something you use/need to know on a regular basis.

    Ben, Thank you for creating these videos and sharing your insights. I was put through the public school system, went to university, and yet, as I transitioned into self-employment, I had to unlearn so many habits and rules called "professional skills". I'm happy to see others who have found their own flow too :)

    I'm glad you are back making videos. If you are questioning whether you want to go to college, you need to figure out what you want to do for a career and then determine what training you need. Perhaps then you will know whether college is the right choice for you.

    I’ve been homeschooled (though more like unschooled in the past 5 or so years) since I was 8. I’ve recently started a business from home, making stickers and badges from my own art, and I’ve joined a band with people I know online and have released an EP. I’m wanting to pursue writing, graphic design and music but always finding myself worrying if I’ll make it in that field. If I’m too lazy or too dumb. You give me some reassurance. Thank you and best of luck!

    Thanks for your videos Ben. 🤟🏽
    I’ve started homeschooling my 12 yr old son, and following the curriculum the old school way felt so painful and stressful to us both!
    Surrendered to the fear of unschooling, and already after a week we are both feeling much happier and both of us are learning everyday a lot more then we did following the old way. 👌🏼
    How’s the doco coming along?

    Ben, thanks for your videos. I am going to be unschooling my three children. Did you end up going to college? It seems you really didn't like those classes, wondering how it went? This was our first year, my kids are 1, 3, and 6 :)

      I am sorry you are lonely. I use facebook groups to find my young kids home schooled friends, we also get out a lot and almost everyone we run into during the school day is home schooled. Keep trying!!

      @BenRehrman  2 года назад +1

      Maybe look into local home/unschooled communities? I'm not sure where you are, but a lot of places have decent-sized unschooling communities! Facebook seems to be a good place to find people. If you're looking for stuff online, discord can be quite helpful! I hope you find the community you're looking for!

    • @shellykp33
      @shellykp33 Год назад +1

      Meh, it's optional. He said he's doing it to fulfill college transcripts. Unschooling is interest led so if you're not interested in taking a formal class, then don't! You'll find other ways to learn what you need to know. If that comes in the form of a class (because it's a subject or skill you really need) then you'll figure out a way to get through it. Also online classes are very different than sitting in a classroom. Especially some platforms (like Outschool) which are very casual.
