Mental illness can be evil in regardless if it’s a labeled as mental illness, their ass should still be charged like any other person. Because we as humans still instinctively know right from wrong.
This a group of three kids if one had a mental illness he may have been encouraged by the group to participate. Either way they have to consider these things

Despite sharing every detail of themselves, they still believe they'll never be found. I just don't understand what happened to all those "online safety PSAs" that existed back when the internet was a new "scary" thing. Chris Poss is a lovely guy. The fact that they didnt want the death penalty because Sam didnt believe in it, is really gracious. And giving scholarships out for band every year to keep his memory alive is just incredibly kind and lovely. He obviously is still suffering greatly and im so sad for the family. I hope they can heal and experience joy and an easy life from here on out.

This was not the story I was expecting when I clicked on this video honestly. I grew up and went to school with Dakota, always rebellious and blamed everyone and everything, but himself. I Never knew Sam, but I heard nothing but positive things about him. My condolences to his family, they shouldn’t have had to go through something like this.

This video is a great example of why I watch true crime. It’s not to be a voyeur of sick and twisted stories. Not only do I add to my arsenal of knowledge which some day could help myself, someone I love or even a stranger but I get a chance to learn about someone that is no longer here to speak for themselves. And I like to think that it might give the victim’s family and loved ones some kind of solace to know that strangers all over the world want to hear about the person they loss, that we care to know about their lives before tragedy. Like everyone that watched this, I feel immense sadness that the world lost Sam. Thanks to his father and friend for sharing so much and to EWU for the conscientious way they approach every story. I have a feeling Sam’s scholarship is going to have a great influx of donations.

This case reminds me so much of my baby brother. He was killed by his two best friends, one was in the military. He was missing for days. The two friends and mother of one have since been arrested and sentenced. Justice hasn't been completely served yet as one person still walks free but their actions put into motion the murder, but we are waiting! Justice for Davidlee Stansbury.

My story doesn’t compare at all, but something vaguely similar happened to me. I was invited out to a party with some acquaintances - I didn’t know them super well but had hung out with them and didn’t have any suspicions. We were driving around for a while, and then they acted like they got lost, and we ended up in this secluded park in my city… when all of a sudden they pulled me out of the car to savagely beat and rob me. I wound up in the hospital (had nose/facial fractures and had to get several staples in the back of my head)… but the whole time they were attacking me, I was just so shocked and surprised. It didn’t even really hurt as it was happening, because I was just so confused. I remember thinking “wait, they were planning this the whole time??? wtf??” over and over again. Obviously the dudes ended up getting caught and went to jail, but ever since then I’ve had PTSD and am unable to trust people. I’m definitely fortunate though because it could have been much worse.

Ended up driving around the valley late night after partying, all the sudden we get into a scrap with another car and they all went from being tough to freezing up, no one having my back. They saw me wyle out and I guess decided they changed their minds and took me home. The whole thing still confuses me cuz I didn't put the thing together until later. But they were younger than me the one was my girlfriends cousin. Bunch of cornballs

I am so proud of his friends on Discord who came forward and took the time to find out where this was happening. I am sure that took a lot of courage. @@tamonsterify I've been in a similar situation. I had to call the the mental crisis health hotline at University of Nebraska recently because of a random guy on Reddit making disturbing post. I live in New York for context. It was super weird and kind of scary. Ended up being serious enough that I was transferred to the police line. I had to send screenshots to a detective and give a formal statement. He was threatening to hurt others on campus and himself. Very disturbing post and comments he was making. It was fully pubic and he had his legal name and a profile photo of himself so it seemed like a cry for help. I decided to call because I would rather be safe than sorry. Hope the poor guy got help. His reddit account was deleted so I don't know what happened after I called.
I almost cried hearing about Sam. Thank you for respecting Sam's wishes and even starting a scholarship fund in his name. Thats the sweetest thing you couldve done for him. You are such a strong and tight knit family.
I am so thankful that Dakota's online friends did the right thing and called police turning him in. As a parent this gives me so much anxiety thinking about "friends" luring you by thinking you're just going to hang out...terrifying and this seems to happen more often. My heart breaks for his family.

Bipolar is a contributing factor though. 2 things can be true at once - 1. You are minimizing how Bipolar disorder can affect certain people. - 2. It's never just one thing. Let's say he is diagnosed as a clinical psychopath, now add Bipolar to the mix. That makes for a pretty nasty cocktail don't you think. But that's only keeping it simple and maybe obvious, mental illnesses cover a massive spectrum and all affect each individual differently, it's just how humans are. He may not even be a psychopath, it could be any number of things that mix badly with Bipolar disorder. I mean depression on it's own can add into just random life events and cause irrational decision making which is also clearly in play. Mental disorders don't need people like you defending them, they need proper attention for the people dealing with them, and better methods of detection so the extremes aren't a problem.

Yeah. Brandon and Dakota knew far too well in what they were doing was wrong, but chose to not to stop and think about the consequences that was gonna come for them if they do this.
Also on team bipolar/ no meds… I can’t do the side effects. Way more productive and happier being myself. I will say I do still go to therapy and had success learning CBT/DBT so by no means do I recommend dealing with this alone. Being able to look at yourself, identify reasons behind your emotions and adjust accordingly has been a career and social lifesaver. The meds made me feel like it’s just to make other people comfortable at the expense of making me a zombie. However, not everyone with bipolar is able to be self aware enough to be safe without. We aren’t bad, just predictably unpredictable. Most of us are just trying our best to get by in this world.
I’m so sad for the loss of Sam and I feel so much for his dad. You can tell by the energy you get from his dad what a good person he is- I know Sam would have done great things. It’s just heartbreaking. So much love to the Poss family ❤

Hearing how the dad had to give up his work in IT because the sight of ethernet cables basically gave him PTSD episodes... that is one of the most heartbreaking things I have ever heard.

I went to the same high school as Brandon. My cousin was friends with him and I used to have lunch with Bradley (the kid Brandon confessed to, who I never even knew played a part in the investigation) in my freshman year, so this is pretty wild to see covered. One crazy thing unrelated to this case about Dakota's upbringing that I've had close family members tell me is that Dakota's father had been arrested many years back for a home invasion in which he SA'd an elderly woman, which along with Dakota's diagnosed mental problems was surely a contributing factor in his life playing out in the unfortunate way it did. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I guess. Even though I never knew Sam, I can tell he was very special to the people who knew him and I'm very thankful his family at least got closure with knowing his fate. Many thanks to EWU for covering this and keeping Sam's memory alive. ♥
Thank you so much for giving the victim's family/friends a platform to share his memory and speak. That's something so important to victims that often gets lost in the shuffle of our justice system. It was great to hear them talk about his memory and help keep it alive. If this is something you guys can keep doing, please do, because it's something that is extremely impactful to the victims, and helps add a touching human element to otherwise tragic stories.

I knew Sam. He was very sweet, charismatic, and considerate. Dakota actually lived right down the road from me. I heard Dakotas dad got harassed a lot after everyone found out that Dakota & Brandon had murdered Sam. He had to put “Private Property No Trespassing” signs on his front fence. Dakota had posts on Facebook saying he wanted to kill someone just to know what it feels like to kill. EWU did such a great job with this… Thank you for covering this ❤️ Rest in peace Sam. My nephew was lured by a girl in his friend group to go to her house. Once there his friend of 15 years attacked, then tortured him for 10 hours until he was dead. There were 2 kids ages 6 and 8 i believe, the were there. They then placed him in a crawl space and covered him in cement. Our family reported him missing but cops barely blinked even w much evidence, like his vehicle found off a cliff wo him in it. Finally a few months later, when the girl was drunk, she told her friend about it. She told us on his missing page on fb. He should be going to his trial early this year. She made a plea to testify against him. We understand all to well this heartache. My condolences to the familyn😢🙏🏻🙏🏻

I couldn't help but be disgusted. Imagine feeling sorry for yourself when some parents just had their child tortured to death by your "Grandbaby". She's crying about her psychotic murdering grandson and not the poor kid he tortured and murdered.
iThink she grieving for Sam's parents & grandparents with what theyre experiencing. She is matriarch of both those titles because of her grandson, and he took that away from Sam's.
She's crying because she feels betrayed by someone she loved and trusted. Someone she let into her home. She's crying because she probably feels responsible somehow even though she never saw any signs to indicate he was homicidal. She's crying because of what her grandson did, a family is experiencing the ultimate loss. She's crying for Sam, and his family, and her own family. It has occurred to you that humans are complex beings capable of feeling multiple emotions at one time, right? She can feel shame and guilt for her grandson taking someone so young and bright for no reason and feel sadness that she feels betrayed by Dakota, too. She's probably feeling a million different things at once.
It's obvious Sam had what the other two didn't & that is, Sam was surrounded by decent & caring people, his parents for starters, his friend who included Sam's name in his own son's name & also the online friend that reported those two monsters, to police (you're a true hero imo, potentially preventing them from destroying anymore lives!) His friend shows up to pick him up but he’s not driving his own car nor is he in the passenger seat, but he’s in the backseat.. there’s an absolute 0% chance I’d even think about getting in that car if I’m being honest. I was friends with Sam’s brother Logan, and my boyfriend at the time was a longtime friend. I remember us sitting with Logan in his front yard while friends, family, and the community searched the area for Sam. It was so heartbreaking to find out what happened to him, and I’m glad the kids that senselessly took his life are behind bars for life. I only met Sam once or twice as kids, but from what I’ve heard from others he was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet.
I went to school at was friends with both of those boys at one point. I saw the signs from Dakota, though. I stopped speaking to him in middle school. Sam never deserved any of that. Rip to a sweet soul.

Had a few classes with Brandon Warren as well. Hardly ever talked to him, he mostly just kept to himself, and only spoke when spoken to. Would never have guessed he’d be capable of something like this as he seemed polite and friendly in the few brief exchanges I had with him. All I can say now is I’m glad he won’t be able to harm anyone else.

Man, this case is surreal. I can't imagine what Sam felt then, but just picture this - a friend asks you come over to help them with something important, it's late at night but he's your friend so you reluctantly agree. After getting in the car the next thing you feel is a getting strangled and stabbed and you know you can't do nothing about it. "Is this how it ends? Getting killed by a depressive psychopath, someone I trusted?"
Can i just say, the bit where the officer tells dakota 'theyre extremely distraught, and you would be when you have kids' is a great way of offering hope in a very subtle way. By saying this he's making Dakota think that even with what hes done, he may still have a chance at a normal life. RIP sam anyway
I live in the area and this story was completely devastating!!! it literally shook everyone! we get crime all the time in the area but nothing like this. I still remember when this hit our local news. True crime is not about the crime itself, it's more about the memories of the victims, families and relatives, this channel is my comfort zone to keep me focused while designing or editing and this video hit totally different, thank you for raising the voice of the families and friends, I know their lives would never be the same without Sam, but it's not who dies that goes but who is forgotten and I know he will never be forgotten. Transforming something so horrible into a message of opportunity and forgiveness is beyond anything I have seen in any other video on this and many other channels.
@@DedRucktheDuck Well, obviously true crime needs a criminal to create the scenography so people like us can study and create some perspective to evolve as humans, but I mean that true crime should be more than horrorize people for the crime itself, it should humanize the victim and bring the voices of the families to us, so we can empathize and remember them more than the crazy mf that did the crime. A lot of people will remember lots of serial killers but forgets about the victims.

I would love for you to cover the case of Brian Varela from Washington state. He allowed an ODing woman to just die instead of calling for help, SAd her, and then bragged to his friends. Meh, yea it's pretty cruel. Not earth shattering though. She was going to die anyways, no? Lots of od's don't get called for help. That's due to the people there will get drug possession and paraphernalia charges. At minimum. They could probably end up with 10 other charges too, just for trying to save a life. I've seen it. A guy I know got robbed while oding , took his bank card /wallet and drugs . Used card at atm. Got a county jail sentence. The law has no sympathy for addicts . You know that before you even try your first substance though. Plus , the risks of death that come from some classes of drugs

They all spend a lot of that money hiring people and creating these videos, from the narrator to the multiple professionals to the writers (I wouldn't be surprised if they had a hired attorney on call to refer their questions to, as well)...and who knows who else. There are people on YT who sit in front of a camera and play video games or react to music videos and get paid crazy money, nothing wrong with that but these guys put in a lot of work...and it shows. :)
I went to school with the victim. I didn't know him well but you just knew he was kind, had the sweetest eyes and smile. Crime like that doesn't happen here in Perry, GA like that. It shook us all.

I went to high school with Sam and Brandon. I only spoke with Sam once or twice during lunch period because we had mutual friends, and he was so kind. After that he would smile at me every time we passed in the hallway. When this tragedy happened the entire community was devastated. I had spoke with Brandon once because we had a mutual friend. He was so shy and meek, a little odd. I couldn’t believe this type of depraved individual was underneath. Rest in peace Sam. You deserved better.

The one time I spoke with Brandon between classes was in 2015 when they both attended Perry High. BRUH if your kid is diagnosed with bipolar disorder at freaking 10 they’re not growing out of that. Bipolar disorder is typically life long and isn’t diagnosed until adulthood. If a kid is serious enough to be diagnosed they… will struggle for life.
Yeah I felt anger towards the mom for her negligence. I get the ignorance surrounding mental health but letting a 15 yr old get off BPD meds is SO FUCKING IRRESPONSIBLE! WTF?! She instantly shouldve gone to the doctor and talk about the situation. Like think about it, even if he had no negative side effects, you can’t just let them stop their meds just like that!
I guess we need more education amongst regular people about mental illnesses, because clearly there are some that you can't just "outgrow" or which can magically dissappear, especially bipolar and schizophrenia. It can only go into remisson which is hardly achievable and risky slippable without any medication

I’ve never been violent even unmedicated, drunk, or high on fentanyl, even when being hit & pushed, choked by my ex who also had bipolar but mine was misdiagnosed then, had me on antidepressants which is horrible for bipolar, it didn’t make me violent, act out on angry thoughts, lose my self control, the mental & physical trauma I’ve experienced hasn’t turned me evil, everything i did that enhances the symptoms of bipolar didn’t do that. my environment growing up was verbal abuse, violence, SA, so it’s not bc i just didn’t grow up in a bad place or have horrible experiences, so rly there’s no excuse or reason for bipolar to even be mentioned other than getting off ur meds without dr advice or supervision could cause a spiral

I really, really enjoy learning from this series. I don’t always watch each one, or watch each one all the way through because some are so horrific. I do like getting to listen to these though on break or if I’m doing something menial at work. Sometimes the audio from the interrogations are just awful and subtitles are definitely needed. Would there be a time in the future that we could see (or hear) this audio cleaned up? I would love to be able to start a video and listen to the whole thing without having to constantly read the subtitles. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work!
I feel really bad for Sam’s folks. As someone who also lost a kid (not murder), it’s something so horrible that nothing I can think of compares. This is on an another level with how gruesome it was. How children come to the conclusion to do this is lost on me.

I recently had a random acquaintance describe in detail the double murder of a young couple him and his brother committed. They are both currently facing charges. I did turn witness. So this type of thing seems to be happening everywhere. It's scary to think about. Be safe and protect yourselves.
How can these crimes be prevented? Every time I watch EWU I ask myself what could have been done to prevent another tragedy? Where along the time line could someone have intervened and saved a life? And what steps should they have taken to help the sick & hatefilled person before they acted on their violent thoughts? This is what haunts me.
I couldn't imagine losing either of my sons, and in this way. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the scholarship fund keeps Sam alive and honors him in the greatest way. He will always be alive in memory and will still be able to help kids beyond his life with the scholarship program his family started. This is heartbreaking.
Having no prior knowledge of this case, I'm glad my first exposure to this story was through EWU. Their videos are always so genuine, respectful & informative in addition to being very thoroughly researched, well written, edited & produced. Instead of "shock value", these videos gear viewers more toward awareness, prevention, education & guidance. This is our unfortunate reality. Chris Poss is a lovely guy. The fact that they didnt want the death penalty because Sam didnt believe in it, is really gracious. And giving scholarships out for band every year to keep his memory alive is just incredibly kind and lovely. He obviously is still suffering greatly and im so sad for the family. I hope they can heal and experience joy and an easy life from here on out.

I Never knew Sam, but I heard nothing but positive things about him. My condolences to his family, they shouldn’t have had to go through something like this.

This video is a great example of why I watch true crime. It’s not to be a voyeur of sick and twisted stories. Not only do I add to my arsenal of knowledge which some day could help myself, someone I love or even a stranger but I get a chance to learn about someone that is no longer here to speak for themselves. And I like to think that it might give the victim’s family and loved ones some kind of solace to know that strangers all over the world want to hear about the person they loss, that we care to know about their lives before tragedy.
Like everyone that watched this, I feel immense sadness that the world lost Sam. Thanks to his father and friend for sharing so much and to EWU for the conscientious way they approach every story. I have a feeling Sam’s scholarship is going to have a great influx of donations.

This case reminds me so much of my baby brother. He was killed by his two best friends, one was in the military. He was missing for days. The two friends and mother of one have since been arrested and sentenced. Justice hasn't been completely served yet as one person still walks free but their actions put into motion the murder, but we are waiting! Justice for Davidlee Stansbury.

This is my biggest fear that people will do my child.
My story doesn’t compare at all, but something vaguely similar happened to me. I was invited out to a party with some acquaintances - I didn’t know them super well but had hung out with them and didn’t have any suspicions. We were driving around for a while, and then they acted like they got lost, and we ended up in this secluded park in my city… when all of a sudden they pulled me out of the car to savagely beat and rob me. I wound up in the hospital (had nose/facial fractures and had to get several staples in the back of my head)… but the whole time they were attacking me, I was just so shocked and surprised. It didn’t even really hurt as it was happening, because I was just so confused. I remember thinking “wait, they were planning this the whole time??? wtf??” over and over again.
Obviously the dudes ended up getting caught and went to jail, but ever since then I’ve had PTSD and am unable to trust people. I’m definitely fortunate though because it could have been much worse.

I live in New York for context. It was super weird and kind of scary. Ended up being serious enough that I was transferred to the police line. I had to send screenshots to a detective and give a formal statement. He was threatening to hurt others on campus and himself. Very disturbing post and comments he was making. It was fully pubic and he had his legal name and a profile photo of himself so it seemed like a cry for help. I decided to call because I would rather be safe than sorry. Hope the poor guy got help. His reddit account was deleted so I don't know what happened after I called.
I almost cried hearing about Sam. Thank you for respecting Sam's wishes and even starting a scholarship fund in his name. Thats the sweetest thing you couldve done for him. You are such a strong and tight knit family.

As a parent this gives me so much anxiety thinking about "friends" luring you by thinking you're just going to hang out...terrifying and this seems to happen more often. 2 things can be true at once - 1. You are minimizing how Bipolar disorder can affect certain people. - 2. It's never just one thing.
Let's say he is diagnosed as a clinical psychopath, now add Bipolar to the mix. That makes for a pretty nasty cocktail don't you think. But that's only keeping it simple and maybe obvious, mental illnesses cover a massive spectrum and all affect each individual differently, it's just how humans are. He may not even be a psychopath, it could be any number of things that mix badly with Bipolar disorder. I mean depression on it's own can add into just random life events and cause irrational decision making which is also clearly in play.
Mental disorders don't need people like you defending them, they need proper attention for the people dealing with them, and better methods of detection so the extremes aren't a problem.

Yeah. Brandon and Dakota knew far too well in what they were doing was wrong, but chose to not to stop and think about the consequences that was gonna come for them if they do this.
Also on team bipolar/ no meds… I can’t do the side effects. Way more productive and happier being myself. I will say I do still go to therapy and had success learning CBT/DBT so by no means do I recommend dealing with this alone. Being able to look at yourself, identify reasons behind your emotions and adjust accordingly has been a career and social lifesaver. The meds made me feel like it’s just to make other people comfortable at the expense of making me a zombie. However, not everyone with bipolar is able to be self aware enough to be safe without. We aren’t bad, just predictably unpredictable. Most of us are just trying our best to get by in this world.
I’m so sad for the loss of Sam and I feel so much for his dad. You can tell by the energy you get from his dad what a good person he is- I know Sam would have done great things. It’s just heartbreaking. So much love to the Poss family ❤

I went to the same high school as Brandon. My cousin was friends with him and I used to have lunch with Bradley (the kid Brandon confessed to, who I never even knew played a part in the investigation) in my freshman year, so this is pretty wild to see covered. One crazy thing unrelated to this case about Dakota's upbringing that I've had close family members tell me is that Dakota's father had been arrested many years back for a home invasion in which he SA'd an elderly woman, which along with Dakota's diagnosed mental problems was surely a contributing factor in his life playing out in the unfortunate way it did. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, I guess. Even though I never knew Sam, I can tell he was very special to the people who knew him and I'm very thankful his family at least got closure with knowing his fate. Many thanks to EWU for covering this and keeping Sam's memory alive. ♥
Thank you so much for giving the victim's family/friends a platform to share his memory and speak. That's something so important to victims that often gets lost in the shuffle of our justice system. It was great to hear them talk about his memory and help keep it alive. If this is something you guys can keep doing, please do, because it's something that is extremely impactful to the victims, and helps add a touching human element to otherwise tragic stories.

I knew Sam. He was very sweet, charismatic, and considerate. Dakota actually lived right down the road from me. I heard Dakotas dad got harassed a lot after everyone found out that Dakota & Brandon had murdered Sam. He had to put “Private Property No Trespassing” signs on his front fence. Dakota had posts on Facebook saying he wanted to kill someone just to know what it feels like to kill.

My nephew was lured by a girl in his friend group to go to her house. Once there his friend of 15 years attacked, then tortured him for 10 hours until he was dead. There were 2 kids ages 6 and 8 i believe, the were there. They then placed him in a crawl space and covered him in cement. Our family reported him missing but cops barely blinked even w much evidence, like his vehicle found off a cliff wo him in it. Finally a few months later, when the girl was drunk, she told her friend about it. She told us on his missing page on fb. He should be going to his trial early this year. She made a plea to testify against him. We understand all to well this heartache. My condolences to the familyn😢🙏🏻🙏🏻

She's crying because of what her grandson did, a family is experiencing the ultimate loss. She's crying for Sam, and his family, and her own family. It has occurred to you that humans are complex beings capable of feeling multiple emotions at one time, right? She can feel shame and guilt for her grandson taking someone so young and bright for no reason and feel sadness that she feels betrayed by Dakota, too. She's probably feeling a million different things at once.

I watch a lot of EWU stories on here but this one touched me. I have 3 kids. The thought of losing my precious son for no absolute reason is heart breaking. I can’t imagine the pain that Sam’s family experienced and the picture of him in his cap and gown just killed me. 😟 God bless them. 😢
His friend shows up to pick him up but he’s not driving his own car nor is he in the passenger seat, but he’s in the backseat.. there’s an absolute 0% chance I’d even think about getting in that car if I’m being honest. I was friends with Sam’s brother Logan, and my boyfriend at the time was a longtime friend. I remember us sitting with Logan in his front yard while friends, family, and the community searched the area for Sam. It was so heartbreaking to find out what happened to him, and I’m glad the kids that senselessly took his life are behind bars for life. I only met Sam once or twice as kids, but from what I’ve heard from others he was one of the nicest people you’d ever meet.

Had a few classes with Brandon Warren as well. Hardly ever talked to him, he mostly just kept to himself, and only spoke when spoken to. Would never have guessed he’d be capable of something like this as he seemed polite and friendly in the few brief exchanges I had with him. All I can say now is I’m glad he won’t be able to harm anyone else.

I can't imagine what Sam felt then, but just picture this - a friend asks you come over to help them with something important, it's late at night but he's your friend so you reluctantly agree. After getting in the car the next thing you feel is a getting strangled and stabbed and you know you can't do nothing about it. "Is this how it ends? Getting killed by a depressive psychopath, someone I trusted?"

I live in the area and this story was completely devastating!!! it literally shook everyone! we get crime all the time in the area but nothing like this. I still remember when this hit our local news. True crime is not about the crime itself, it's more about the memories of the victims, families and relatives, this channel is my comfort zone to keep me focused while designing or editing and this video hit totally different, thank you for raising the voice of the families and friends, I know their lives would never be the same without Sam, but it's not who dies that goes but who is forgotten and I know he will never be forgotten. Transforming something so horrible into a message of opportunity and forgiveness is beyond anything I have seen in any other video on this and many other channels.

@@DedRucktheDuck Well, obviously true crime needs a criminal to create the scenography so people like us can study and create some perspective to evolve as humans, but I mean that true crime should be more than horrorize people for the crime itself, it should humanize the victim and bring the voices of the families to us, so we can empathize and remember them more than the crazy mf that did the crime. A lot of people will remember lots of serial killers but forgets about the victims.

He’s also currently OUT of prison if you can believe that. This case has stuck with me since hearing of it years ago, and I want people to hear the story. That's due to the people there will get drug possession and paraphernalia charges. At minimum. They could probably end up with 10 other charges too, just for trying to save a life. I've seen it. A guy I know got robbed while oding , took his bank card /wallet and drugs . Used card at atm. Got a county jail sentence. The law has no sympathy for addicts . You know that before you even try your first substance though. Plus , the risks of death that come from some classes of drugs

I went to school with the victim. I didn't know him well but you just knew he was kind, had the sweetest eyes and smile. Crime like that doesn't happen here in Perry, GA like that. It shook us all.

This is one of the saddest true crime videos I’ve ever seen. When the dad said the thing bout the death penalty and honoring his sons memory that broke my heart. To add purpose to the senselessness such wise words. I hope he rests in peace. And the family is able to heal from this tragedy. Just remember that your son would want you to do that. This is my absolute worst nightmare. My son just started his first job, and this is something I will share with him. To be careful who you trust, and trust your gut about people. My prayers for this family. The fact that they thought about how their son would have wanted things to turn out, is inspiring. An eye for an eye leaves everyone blind. BRUH if your kid is diagnosed with bipolar disorder at freaking 10 they’re not growing out of that. Bipolar disorder is typically life long and isn’t diagnosed until adulthood. If a kid is serious enough to be diagnosed they… will struggle for life.

Yeah I felt anger towards the mom for her negligence. I get the ignorance surrounding mental health but letting a 15 yr old get off BPD meds is SO FUCKING IRRESPONSIBLE! WTF?! She instantly shouldve gone to the doctor and talk about the situation. Like think about it, even if he had no negative side effects, you can’t just let them stop their meds just like that!
I guess we need more education amongst regular people about mental illnesses, because clearly there are some that you can't just "outgrow" or which can magically dissappear, especially bipolar and schizophrenia. It can only go into remisson which is hardly achievable and risky slippable without any medication

^ my meds work for me so no it’s really not that they make people aggressive, a lot of people feel like they’re “better” now bc of the meds, but they don’t realize it is the meds helping, and stop taking them abruptly. I’ve never been violent even unmedicated, drunk, or high on fentanyl, even when being hit & pushed, choked by my ex who also had bipolar but mine was misdiagnosed then, had me on antidepressants which is horrible for bipolar, it didn’t make me violent, act out on angry thoughts, lose my self control, the mental & physical trauma I’ve experienced hasn’t turned me evil, everything i did that enhances the symptoms of bipolar didn’t do that. my environment growing up was verbal abuse, violence, SA, so it’s not bc i just didn’t grow up in a bad place or have horrible experiences, so rly there’s no excuse or reason for bipolar to even be mentioned other than getting off ur meds without dr advice or supervision could cause a spiral

This happened right in my city, Sam’s body was found right in my neighborhood (lake joy village). I remember it like it was yesterday

I hear it more and more in these interviews, "I just wanted to see what it would be like", that excuse makes me sick. Plus the guy is calling people saying he's coming home because he planned it, strangled his friend, helped clean it up and hide his body, but I didn’t STAB him so I'm not a murderer, Ijust assaulted him. Omg, I'm really angry, and I feel so bad for his family.

I really, really enjoy learning from this series. I don’t always watch each one, or watch each one all the way through because some are so horrific. I do like getting to listen to these though on break or if I’m doing something menial at work. Sometimes the audio from the interrogations are just awful and subtitles are definitely needed. Would there be a time in the future that we could see (or hear) this audio cleaned up? I would love to be able to start a video and listen to the whole thing without having to constantly read the subtitles. Thank you all for your dedication and hard work!
I feel really bad for Sam’s folks. As someone who also lost a kid (not murder), it’s something so horrible that nothing I can think of compares. This is on an another level with how gruesome it was. How children come to the conclusion to do this is lost on me.

I recently had a random acquaintance describe in detail the double murder of a young couple him and his brother committed. They are both currently facing charges. I did turn witness. So this type of thing seems to be happening everywhere. It's scary to think about. Be safe and protect yourselves.

Its so startling that they honestly could've gotten away with murdering Sam had they not said anything. I hope neither of them get out of jail.
How can these crimes be prevented? Every time I watch EWU I ask myself what could have been done to prevent another tragedy? Where along the time line could someone have intervened and saved a life? And what steps should they have taken to help the sick & hatefilled person before they acted on their violent thoughts? This is what haunts me.
I couldn't imagine losing either of my sons, and in this way. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, and the scholarship fund keeps Sam alive and honors him in the greatest way. He will always be alive in memory and will still be able to help kids beyond his life with the scholarship program his family started. This is heartbreaking.
Having no prior knowledge of this case, I'm glad my first exposure to this story was through EWU. Their videos are always so genuine, respectful & informative in addition to being very thoroughly researched, well written, edited & produced. Instead of "shock value", these videos gear viewers more toward awareness, prevention, education & guidance. This is our unfortunate reality. While some cases are just unavoidable & unforeseeable, our best defense against the rest is awareness & attentiveness. Thanks EWU!
