This has got to be the best synth ever created. The tonal qualities of this thing are just amazing. Good sized keyboard too. To me this is THE classic synth.
You make very good videos... I can't wait for the Behringer to release the UB-Xa. I hope it will sound very very close to the original OB-Xa, thanks for the video...
Beautiful. I have an OB-Xa and and OB-8 and am getting both serviced this month because I miss playing them. Not sure why the oberheims don't get a little more respect, they blow a lot of their contemporaries out of the water. They don't have a huge variety of sounds, they just sound like huge, fat analog synths.
I had a VST that emulates Oberheim, I like it, but I wasn't really sure what the hell I could do with it, now I have an expanded idea. Nothing compares with the real thing, by the way
sort of...a friend of mine bought one and i got to spend 2 days playing it and tweaking it....to the untrained ear you probably wont be able to tell though
I'm not sure it falls under a copyright (or patent). Behringer has made original synth products such as the Deepmind (6&12) and the Neutron but they are also making clones, which personally I'm ok with. Most of their clones are machines no longer in production. While I don't have the talent to justify $3k for a Moog, I can justify $299 for the Behringer clone.
@Hugh Mongus According to the guy on GS who had a pre-release version of the vocoder, though, they pretty much nailed the sound. Sure, it would be kind of cool if the clones looked almost exactly like their ancestors, but isn't getting the SOUND right a little more important? The OB-Xa was pretty huge...making the clone equally huge would drive up costs of shipping and take up more warehouse space. And it would have the same components inside...just more empty space inside the casing.
I just bought this exact synth off Ebay...I can tell by the painted sides/top and overspray marks by the filter dial... Hope she still works this good!!!
Yeah, it’s mine - congrats and thanks for the order , I’m shipping it to you in the morning! I’ll do a video to show you the working before mailing it to you , to check for operations
Why do no companies make synths like this anymore? I feel like there would be a decent market for them. As good as software synths (huge Reaktor fan here) and digital synths are, nothing sounds like a true analog synth. I'd gladly save up good money for something like this if only there was something like this to buy, but from my research, there really truly isn't. Also, I found one of these synths for $3000 on ebay. Do you think that's fair? Would you pay that much for this thing?
what an amazing sound, cant wait for the Behringer version
Such warm sounds.. And such a good player! Love all your videos!
You know you are good when Timcop is posting on your videos!
The 1980s will be the first decade to be brought back in the Retro Decade Revival Project.
We love you too, Timecop1983

man, this thing is a BEAST! I can see why so many bands used them, they sound like a calm country drive during a warm fall afternoon.
This can make me sleep at night. It's beautiful.
I could listen to these all day! Definitely getting one once I can afford to do so
The Obie OB-Xa and Jupiter 8 are my two favourite synths of all time.
Thank you for the demo.
Best wishes
Them and the DX7
Your Pads are so beautiful, soothing and relaxing......thanks for sharing.
You make very good videos... I can't wait for the Behringer to release the UB-Xa. I hope it will sound very very close to the original OB-Xa, thanks for the video...
We all love how these sound, but a truly skilled player like yourself definitely makes listening to these babies so much more fun.

Absolutely OBERWARM...love that sound
Agree
something about this synth speaks to the darkness within me.
@Tobias Daniel Oh wow. You too? I love flixzone. I don't know what my life would be without it!
What a lush, beautiful sound and expressive playing! I enjoyed that, thank you.
yeah! love those organic, magical, story-telling analog poly-sounds (>Demo 4)...
Hans Laubreiter I like how you said story-telling. They are.
It's amazing synthesiser it has a great sound and the musician playing it is good too
This one has the magic, great playing too.
Die Karre gehört für mich zu den top 5 der besten Synths - danke!
I'd have to agree, thank you
Awesome warm sounds and also good play. Once again: congratulations!!
It seems that Behringer is preparing a clone. Can´t wait to get my hands on that one. The Deepmind is silver, but this is definitely gold.
Any year now...
Great video Paolo. Thank you
This synth is rapidly clambering its way to the top of my most coveted list.
Can you please tell me you're settings? I just got mine back from a complete rebuild. Encore midi installed.
So beautiful and lush!
Untuned lovely analog voices :) this is analog...CIAO, bella demo! We will see what Behringer will do with the UB-Xa...
Great demo. I have an ob-8, & it sounds incredible, but this is a heavier sound for sure
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous!
Love the tone
Getting goose-bumps (Gänsehaut) up here in Sweden! :-P
LOVVVE!
Hehe - thank you for the Swedish lesson, Blixten!
"Gänsehaut" is German. "Gåshud" is Swedish. But who cares?
Your videos are awesome, anyhow! ;-)
Holy crap it sounds so lovely from the very first note... !!
I had a VST that emulates Oberheim, I like it, but I wasn't really sure what the hell I could do with it, now I have an expanded idea. Nothing compares with the real thing, by the way
Nothing like a real Obie...
Tom Oberheim needs to design another polyphonic mega-synth, or at least give us an updated version of the OB-Xa...
Behringer is making one. Seriously.
or at least something in digital FM on the order of Yamaha's DX7 and Roland's D50
D50 isn't FM, by the way I get what you're trying to say, and it seems that there's a revival of vintage synths so you're served
does the ob6 not sound like this?
sort of...a friend of mine bought one and i got to spend 2 days playing it and tweaking it....to the untrained ear you probably wont be able to tell though
If you notice an upswing in views on this- that’ll be me! 🤩 Love the OB as much as life itself... hoping to get an OB-6 in the near future 😎
Paolo which one you'd pick from JP8, P5 and OBXa if you had to choose?
FFFFuuuuuuck..... This thing sounds incredible. Great musical lines too.
Beautiful
I always thought it was cool that the OB analog polysynths had the voice panning knobs to get a stereo effect w/o the need of external effects.
xnonsuchx the OB6 does it too.
This reminds me of the work Tangerine Dream did on the Logos album, I know they played Oberheim synths on many of their songs.
Eccezionale la demo 2 è semplicemente eccezionale
Yeah!!
GREAT SOUND
The worlds greatest zombie movie could be made to Demo 4!
Behringer just announced that they'll be making an analog clone of this beauty.
I saw that :-) That's very good news, as originals in good condition are getting harder to find
Hugh Mongus Don´t hope that it will sound only anything similar to the analog sound of the original one...
I'm not sure it falls under a copyright (or patent).

@@jxsteiner The Model D is spot on. No reason to think this won't be.

That's awesome lol, thanks!
great video :))
Man what a sound..
Awesome but at least 40 minutes too short. Could listen to it for hours. My Xa is currently being serviced but I will get it next week. =)
Amazing!
Awesome!
A BIG SOUND!!
Scintillating stuff!
Which FX unit did you use for the reverb?
Love Demo 2.
Beautiful demo! Is the patch played one of the programmed patches that comes with the OB-Xa or one that you programmed yourself?
Thanks - these are patches from the manual mode - although the factory patches are very good
Another year or maybe two and we all can get an UB-Xa. Hopefully it will be as good as the Boog Model D! ;)
Nice Sounds Similar to the Polysix .....Nice!
the OBXA had better options though bout the sound is similar
nice, but could be better tuned. press that button labeled "AUTO" under the volume knob every now and then :)
Nice, my friend.
I'm looking for one on eBay... I love the sound.
count me in I wanna search for one once I get the cash
Total stereo! Show!

They're now going for $7,000. Whoops.
1:21 This sound...O_O.
nothing, I mean NOTHING like the OB-Xa!
Gus really...
Gus OBX
used by the Thompson Twins
I would love to have one but theyre so damn expensive these days
If I owned one of these, I'd gladly waste away however long it would take just to get the classic Van Halen "Jump" sound
So amazing. Any FX on this?
I don't think so - just. the synth (and long envelopes + stereo spread of the voices panning)
SynthMania So impressive! The stereo panning feature is so cool. Thx!
They don't make these babies like the use to. The 80's was my generation.
are these default patches?
No, these are in manual mode
Please hit that TUNE button.
Wouldn't help much.
Didn't imagine that some older synth technology could sound so great
Den Shaliakhin ??????
If your house had a fire what would you save from your studio?
My three kids (I'd leave my wife inside)
Haha but what synth?
Probably the Fairlight -
Bit heavy id think imagine trying to get the dotcom out haha btw what do the kids think of your music
It actually works but one voice is bogus. I'll post a demo soon
minun musiikkia voi kuunella Facebookista.
wow that filter @2:32
Wonderful sounds. Unfortunately they cost an arm and a testicle these days.
How many of you had a flashback of Miami Vice?
....
Van Hale - Jump
Alexandre Bandeira old news
Lush
sounds totally out of tune....must be callibrated!
lol, you're serious ? I's normal, man.. ;)
K d'urgence no. It’s not.
Jajajajajaj
Awesome warm sounds and also good play. Once again: congratulations!!
