Awesome video! I am experiencing some similar issues except that my OB-8 is outputting a constant noise that's all garbled and static-y, but no sound comes from pressing any keys. I believe I corrected the previous issue I was having with U51, but now I'm not sure why it's making such a bad sound? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I love your vids man, the insides of these instruments are so amazing. I have done some research trying to figure out of my Novation Peak has a small disc battery( for patch store im guessing?) like some of the examples I have seen on different machines. any help would awesome. THanks Chaser
Hey! My cs 80 keeps blowing up fuses. Any idea why? My cs 89 is in a verry cold location, could this be the problem? Any information why he blows up fuses? Cheers Luka
It probably is wanting to live in a warmer climate. Send it to me and I'll give it a nice life in sunny Southern California. But seriously, check to be sure the fuses are the correct Amperage rating. If they are, fuses blow because too much current is being drawn, so if they're blowing they're blowing because something is shorted and needs to be fixed.
The keybed matrix of the OB-SX is compatible with the other OB's, but the matrixes are different on the Fatar 49 keybed vs the 61 keybed, so my adapter wouldn't work in an OB-SX.
Awesome. I think mine has the same keyboard and I'd love to change it someday, but maybe not right away. If I don't use it for a week or so some of the notes stop working until I play them a bunch of times. Do you still have that contact refresher for them?
@@Synthchaser oh ok, I thought you sold it at one point. I have it written down to order some day when I feel like fixing this and the number pad on my Six-trak.
What is the probability that all switches on a keybed are bad? Well, higher than one could think. I had this happening in my poly61, and this will be likely the case!
very interesting video i did not think it was possible to put a fatar keyboard instead of the old clanky one is it possible to put a fatar keyboard in a matrix 12 as well ? thanks, watching all the videos with high interest !!
It's possible, but not with this particular adapter I've made. The Matrix 12 keybed is velocity sensitive and the OB's aren't. So it would take another adapter that connects the 2nd set of key contacts on the Fatar keybed to the synth.
There is nothing wrong with the keybed, after 12 years of not being used the contacts have become tarnished just clean them off with 100% isopropyl alchohol. not a big deal, the more you use the synth the less cleaning you have to do.
From my understanding from the customer, the synth was being used, but then went unused for 12 years because of this "no output" problem, not the other way around. I wouldn't expect all 61 key contacts to simultaneously completely fail without any warning. I didn't see any signs of spills or other environmental damage that could explain that. Eventually I'll autopsy the keybed and report back here.
Man, I wish I had mine back… Your videos would have probably helped bring it back to life. Keep up the great work!
Another great Synthchaser video, that's quite the Oberheim collection in the opening shot!
Amazing detail one of my all time favorite synths. Much learned ty my friend!!
Great stuff! Greetings from Carlsbad.
Great job. One question: that Fatar keyboard, what model is it and how much did it cost?
that is great work, the keybeds on those OB synths were terrible anyways.
Great video, I had a hunch as soon as you started pressing the keys on the keybed that was where the problem was.

I was really hoping to see the oberheim OB 8 keyboard autopsy.
Great video thanks.
Great job sir! I have OB-SX and would like to replace the keybed with Fatar one. Is Fatar TP/9S suitable for that?
The keybed matrix of the OB-SX is compatible with the other OB's, but the matrixes are different on the Fatar 49 keybed vs the 61 keybed, so my adapter wouldn't work in an OB-SX.
@@Synthchaser Thank you for the answer!

I think I show the bottle with the brand name in the key contact repair video if you want to go look for it, I don't remember the name offhand.

Thanks for your answer 😊
@@Synthchaser thinking about it, that kind of adapter would be extremely useful (and needed) by most Jd800 users !!
keyboard Fatar is now out of stock !!!from the guy who sell it for 2021!!!!expecting other guys can sold it for his original price(..)
