Good thing is if you end up regreting it you can snag them used at stupid prices. It's underrated. I saw one on sale in the 707 FB group for 600$ used with deck protector and carry case. That's pants on head retarded for a box that can create this with 4 out of 8 tracks.
I love how it starts light - then gets nice and thick. Great tune! Can I ask what is going on with this piece - I have never been able to get full songs to sound that good on my 707.
I tend to develop the main / intense parts first and then degrees the sound. I find it easier for me to make the thick / complex parts first and then think about what to take away compared to “building up”. So with this track I started with the second drums , drums with deeper layers and intensity. I layered 2 kick and 2 snares for that kit to create a industrial style vibe. Then I laid down the bass line which is very often the case in my workflow. The bass line and beat are almost the main foundation. Once I have something I know that vibes between those 2 things , it’s a good starting point. The spacey ARP style sequence I tend to base on the bass line. I’ll many times use the same notes but maybe spread out between more octaves but still following the groundwork laid from the bass line. Since the bass and drums are already feeling good. If you play with various seq sounds using those same notes , short env and add delay. It can be easy to find a spacey arp style sequence that fits the vibe you laid out. After that it’s just layering a voice pad that again many times uses the same notes used in previous parts but in a different way. Having all that payed out I wanted a “build up” separate drum and sequence to create diversity. I figured dropping the bass line, using 808’s on the drum kit for bass and drop it down to a traditional 1 kick , 1 snare and clap while keeping the spacey arp style sequence but with a different motion recording could be a good intro , seems to work.
In terms of 707 only stuff. It's pretty much all presets with slight manipulation of settings besides a few added one shot drum samples from external samples. The synth engine is very powerful and worth the time exploring. Many times presets are just a few settings away from the perfect sound for your track. I do use a lot of motion recording and scene swapping
You tell me ! I added 3 new tracks to Bandcamp but replaced one I wasn't happy with in terms of final results. So I guess that means I added 2 tracks and replaced one, lol. This one here I feel will be added to the mix too. I hope to add a little to the final mix but it's a good start. This would make around 8 tracks. I hope to add around 8 new ones for a total around 16-18 tracks
the first bass note had me hooked
Got some mentallo & the fixer vibes.wonderful tune.
They are pretty much my largest 90's industrial influence
Love those wood simulated sides
They make the 707 look pretty sexy
