@@MorbidManoeuvres definitely on the list 🤘samplers literally shaped industrial music.IMO They influenced industrial more than synths.
Regarding the Korg MS-20 emulation, you should try the Cherry Audio PS-20 which is pretty damn good, is really cheap and has IMHO a better sonic accuracy than the Arturia MS-20 V.
thanks man, I'll try that. I've always been a huge Arturia fan hehe I heard of Cherry Audio's products though. I should give it a try
For anyone looking for a cheap alternative to the DX7, the PSS-480 has similar (but very simplified) FM capabilities. I run mine through a nice warm clipper or distortion
Its not the same by any means but it'll get you to the same place
never heard of that one, I'll check that out!
@@Tonepusher I'll clarify because I know what the industrial crowd can be like when behind a keyboard
It's a cheap, basic FM synth by the same manufacturer, and that's where it ends. I got mine for £5 but you could do so much more with Vember Audio Surge so just download that 😂
@@WVLFRVN loll yeah well some great songs were made with cheap gear. I mean that's something I like with sound design. Finding old vintage gems and just make em sound good.
ackshually, Trent only used DX7 as MIDI interface, there's no actual DX7 sounds in his music, he used it because they were everywhere in music store and cheap (no remorse if you beat the marde out of them)
lol yeah I know, eventho he didn't used them in his music at all (which I seriously doubt lol) he still destroyed them wich is very triste.
Great video!
The dx7 was used as a controller, mainly because it’s easy to waterproof.
haha yeah I figured, but still it's the real one that gets destroyed 😭
It was chosen mainly because it was widely available in every city they toured and it was cheap.
@@juno6 They could've used some random Casio keyboard? 🤔🤣
@Tonepusher Hey now, once upon a time Casio made some “not bad” keyboards (The CZ range, however I did end up choosing a Yamaha DX 100 over a Casio CZ 5000 {reason being the DX 100 was portable enough to bring home on a subway 🚇} ) but the Casio keyboards you can buy at Walmart…yeah those are dime a dozen.
@@sawtooth808 Yeah I was refering to the Walmart keyboards hehe I do love the proper synths Casio made. They look super good too!
No shuffle 😄 I've listened to back catalogue a zillion times, so it's printed on my synapses
haha same!!
REVCO / MINISTRY / PTP. ... was Als Fairlight. ...they didbt know how to use it properly. Which is why a lot of those songs were just loop with stuff added on top.
I love massive and Viper xfer serum too
Never tried Viper! But Serum is probably the most versatile plugin out there. It's my main weapon hehe
@@Tonepusher viper can open up virus TI Virus ABC Roms
Cool :) One day I will make a song using them ;)
haha yeah man you should! I feel like the DX7 is so underrated nowadays.
Ensoniq ESQ-1?
I did mention it in the ''honorable mentions'' at the end. I almost put it in there but I didn't find a good VST alternative. But it's true that it was used a LOT though hehe
Nord, Access Virus, and Waldorf series, along with the Korg M1 should easily be on this list!
You're reading my mind :)
Waldorf microwave. Kurzweil K2K. Kawai K4 the 'waxtrax drum box' Kawai r-50/r-100. Akai S2k. Xpander.
I have the Model82 from Softube (sh101) and it's pretty damned good too.
oh nice, interesting, I never heard of that one! I'll check it out. I like the Arp/sequencer option on the TAL one though!
@@Tonepusher I'm sure the TAL is just as good, it's just that I got a really good deal and had to buy it. Speaking of sequencers, have you tried HY-plugins sequencers? I use HY-SeqCollection mostly for basslines, and HY-RPE when I want euclidean. I haven't found any sequencers that are better or more inspiring. Could be a good video topic one day.
@@jonl.b7168 Good idea! Good software sequencers/arpeggiators are pretty rare tbh! I often use the stock arpeggiator in Cubase. Or I write stuff by hand in Cubase.
The Softube 82 is fantastic. It’s replaced the TAL one for a lot of my stuff. It also integrates into the Softube Modular environment which is a lot of fun (and that integrates into Eurorack through a DC-coupled interface so it’s layers of enjoyment!)
front 242 quite unusual
Dumb question-I don't recognize that thumbnail and keep thinking it's Faderhead but that doesn't sync with the whole "90s" thing. Who is it?
It's Front242! hehe
Hehe, I still own my Ensoniq Mirage. With its staggering 128 kb (!) of RAM and its dual segment LED screen, a true old-timer.
haha such a classic, and it still looks badass hehe 🤘🏻
The best DX7 emulation by far is Plogue OPS7. No other vst come close to the mk1 DX7.
Don't know this one! I'll check it out for sure 🤓
before the Virus plugin came out, i was advising people to use Rob Papen's Predator as an alternative.
Yeah I heard that Viper was good too
Excellent ❤
hey thanksss :)🤘
I've always been interested in Rob Zombie (and White Zombie) synth sound especially on they remix albums. I mean that liquid and modulated sounds.
Can anyone tell me how to achieve such a fancy wierd sound?
Let me know which song in particular and I could help you for sure :) 🤘🏻 love rob zombie!
For instance:
- Dragula (Si Non Oscillas, Noli Tintinnare Mix). So cool acid sequences and ethereal pads mixed with insanely reverberated (i think it huge reverb) voice textures.
- How To Make A Monster - Kitty's Purrrrformance Mix. I love that mid bass in intro.
- Living Dead Girl - Subliminal Seduction Mix. Insane synth sounds in bridge on 03:12
Trent Reznor is probably the reason Yamaha DX7s are so hard to find nowadays.
haha fact!! 😅
No Shuffle
Der Mussolini
Smothered Hope
Let beauty loose
Easy 🤪
haha damn, good job 🤘
Why can't I save your videos in a playlist
good question... I'll fix that 🤔
@@Tonepusher thanks man love the videos
Wait, what is the song @1:15 ??? I need to know.
It's Front 242 "no shuffle" 👌🏻
@@Tonepusher thank you!!!
1:25 there is no shuffle
hell yeah 🤘
hell yea brother
Oh shit... I see Cevin Cey in the 5 seconds of a video, I'm watching it
haha! I fell you 🤘
4th one can make argent metal soundtrack
If I had to choose one of these to make Argent Metal it would be the DX7!
@@Tonepusher yep you're absolutely right :) and plus thanks for the video you keep uploading about argent metal last time it helped me a lot to expand more of my knowledge in argent metal making
@@satouanimation no problem man! to me Argent Metal is an evolution of Industrial. So Industrial knowledge can be applied to Argent Metal. Especially the ''ambiant'' parts.
1st dx7 plugin song was "quite unusual" by front 242
nope.. it's NO SHUFFLE
Daf used arp in the studio because the ms20 was too thin sounding. Try it. Use a odyssey instead of a ms20 for the balls! I read it in Robert’s book.
Jupiter 6
classic 🤘🏻
Christian, you know that no VST comes even close to sounding like an MS-20...... Don't let them be fooled. ; P
hahaha you know what....you're right🤣
The VST filter and the original filter sounds...very different hehe
@@Tonepusher Yeah, it's a big difference.... I wish it wasn't though. Same with the Pro One (you should get the Behringer one, it's awesome!).
@@SYNDRONE dude there's one near me, used for 200$ or something... I think I'll get it. But I still want the original one haha
@@Tonepusher The original will be like 2500$ if it pops up in somewhat good condition at all.... 😅
@@SYNDRONE Sometimes I look at Reverb.com but prices are always super high. Waiting for the right one hehe
Kawai K4
yeah FLA used it for Strings on Caustic Grip I think. Very 80-90s sounding, love it hehe
Technically 'industrial' is only music released on Industrial Records (including Doroty ), the other is EBM
hmm okay I understand what you mean...So that means you think that Skinny Puppy, Ministry, FLA are EBM? 🤔 So DAF and Skinny Puppy would be the same genre? 🤔 hehe I doubt that haha
I mean it's like saying everyhing that wasn't released on Deathlike Silence isn't Black Metal. Makes no sense to me hehe
That you like it or not in 2024 industrial is a VERY wide genre. It's like saying "Metal" it's a very very broad term.
Ministry, at least in beginning.. took a lot of knowledge from 242. Al even had the '242' logo on his guitar. I think there is a valid point here, but it's apples and oranges. Nobody actually cares.
What!? No Emulatorll?? :))
haha true! maybe for episode 2?🤔😂
I'm going to go to the bathroom to take an industrial dump now....
Happy to help! You could sample that and make a hit with it?
Dx7 was only used as midi controllers by Trent. He hates the Dx7
no shuffle. points please. ;^)
haha !! exactly 😂 you just won 242pts
Plug in soft synthesizers.
Are so out.People are wanting real hardware nowadays
Well, it's true that plugins are less popular that they were 5-6 years ago. But I don't think they're out though hehe Companies are selling more and more plugins than ever before. BUT I do think Synthesizers are coming back too. I feel like were in a perfect "hybrid era" where synths are well integrated with computers and plugins. And tbh Serum has never been more popular than right now... lol
I need more synths
never enough synths 😵💫
