They part where she said that the first slave owner in America was black, that native Americans owned slaves too, and that the party "switch" theory was myth and then encouraged everyone to look up all of this for themselves (seriously, right now) was kind of strange. Sweet lady though.
Yes many Free blacks purchased non free blacks so that they would no longer be tortured by whites including Fredrick Douglas. Also the slaves native Americans had also were indentured servitude and became apart of the tribe. Why do people only understand indentured servitude when it comes to irish?

America is a divided country with a difficult history whether people accept it or not. Those people who are saying that this divides us probably do not understand how trauma works. When we heal from our past, then we can unite with understanding, compassion and empathy. This woman's pain and now healing is the pain of millions of Americans. This holiday will bring awareness to America's history to finally right its past. God bless the United States and bring healing to those seeking it. If you are really a united country then everyone will celebrate this federal holiday.
