    People just be aware that stoicism is not bottling up your emotions and pretending everything is hunky dory. It is controlling your emotions enough that you can still think and use those emotions. Not simply allowing your emotions to drive you without thought.

    • @CelticGod220
      @CelticGod220 4 года назад +21

      @mirror shadez if you mean controlled as in turned on and off like a switch... well then you are correct. But they can be controlled in the sense like steering a car or redirecting an overwhelming flow of water that would othwise drown you.
      It can be difficult and occasionally seem impossible but with practice it is definately doable.

    • @comesahorseman
      @comesahorseman 4 года назад +9

      Those emotions are a form of energy that you can learn to manage and direct productively. I didn't say this is always easy; that's the challenge.

    • @JustinL614
      @JustinL614 4 года назад +8

      @mirror shadez It's about recognizing what matters. When the ego is involved you'll become offended at things that don't matter so you get emotional because of pointless things. A stoic wouldn't care if someone made an insult or if they made an easily corrected mistake. A stoic would not try to control their emotions if their child died because that would be something deserving emotion for example. Most things do not deserve getting upset about.

      You all confuse feeling with thinking, just look at how you commented. No new information was learned here, just someone parroted something they probably feel needs to be parroted just about everywhere, for the sake of "making known" what is already plain as day. America was built for this, for making money and integrating into civil society. It breeds the unthinking and ingrains in them a "feeling", all right. A feeling of pride for the wont to improve the money-making capacity of the country.

      The main problem is that the left in the U.S. is fanning the flames of revolution. The Communists and the Democrats are behind all of this. They will burn this country to the ground, so they can rebuild their vision of a new America on the ashes of the old. That is the definition of hate. That is what the Bible said would be in the end time. No common affection. Just hate. Vaughn

    • @davidmesser8619
      @davidmesser8619 4 года назад +2

      @Bob Bobbertson You are absolutely correct. We have to resist, or they will roll right over us. The left complains and accuses the right about what was done to the Native Americans. Two thirds of the Native Americans died of disease. The rest died from war or dislocation. We all know this. So 100 million died in 300 years. I am not trivializing that. The communists killed 100 million of their own people in less than 100 years. If anyone trusts the left they are crazy. A snake is a snake. Their god is the old snake Lucifer. Communism is like a giant constricting snake that will crush you and eat you. Resist we must, or we will surely perish. Vaughn

Anarchy is just absence of government not absence of order. In fact, USA was founded by a liberalism movement which is the abscence of governmnet in human relationships, you need to come back to that, return the personal responsability to the people and not give more and more of it to the government by the excuse of social inequalities which is an absurd because all of us are different, we've been facing the same absurdness but with different reasons (rich vs poor) in México with the communist shithead we have as president, he had been rising social division every day saying that all the suffering of the country is by there are successfull people who does not care about the loosers (even when the people is paying almos 50% of their income in taxes), is the government of loosers. Stoicism is a great philosophy that everyone should implement into their lives, but being stoic doesn't mean you shouldn't react to outside forces. Like, I'm not angry when I shoot the man trying to rob me.. I did so out of survival.
    In my humble opinion, stoicism doesn't mean not having or experiencing emotions. Stoicism means you channel those emotions into something positive. When something makes me angry, I don't bottle it up, but I most certainly do not give the person who angered me the satisfaction of knowing they angered me. I take my frustrations to the gym and channel those emotions during my workout.

The vast majority of people demonstrating in the United States are doing so peacefully and it is their constitutional right. The violence is a byproduct by opportunistic forces ranging from common thieves and agitators from the far left and far right. I realize this is an old video, but American schools are indoctrinating your kids; it's probably far worse in Europe, Canada, Australia. I also find it funny, at least here in America, people want the schools to teach their kids everything and they take zero damn responsibility for being their child's teacher in the sense of teaching about life. Americans are the most helpless, lazy people on earth. They care far more about their kids travel ball clubs than they do their education. It's why the Asians and Asian Americans are kicking the crap out of the Western world economically (and it will only get worse) and educationally. We are too spoiled, too lazy, and care too much about peripheral issues that don't matter.

    Good to see you again Bjorn! Therese are really messed up times we are in. I have been taking your lessons on Stoicism to heart, also been reading the Havamal and also Meditations. Once one takes a step back and you see things with calmer eyes it is unbelievable how much emotional incontinence there is and how many weak "authority" figures there are. Through all this I have lost much respect for many across the political and social spectrum.
    it is quite freeing to have more control over emotions, you see things you haven't seen before and therefore you gain more wisdom.

    I have been in the thick of this. I'm a security guard in my capitol. We luckily only had a few days of rioting, but on the worst day I had to guard an apartment complex downtown with my armour, handgun and longgun (US if it isn't apparent to you. Haha). It's a strenuous place to be, my painting hasn't been happening due to more work, and I have mostly been sleeping and then working. But, I will say, my stoicism had helped me immensely during this time. It's kept me from adding fuel to the rioting by acting poorly in my position. It's helped me rationalize my mindset and keep myself sane. There isn't a whole lot I can do to change what's happening, or give myself breathing room, but I've been able to keep a relatively level and happy attitude thru it all.

    Funny Bjorn.. in Seattle we have 6 square blocks taken over by antifa, blm, anarchists...in the middle of a business district. No police allowed. These people have blocked off the area..kinda like Trump wants a wall... think about that...the Mayor of Seattle calls it a “Summer of Love”. these people have their own armed guards especially at night... surrounding the area... the business owners in the area...well they can just put up with it or leave right...SUMMER OF LOVE....yea.. in Seattle. Black is yellow and white is green...last night in the Capitol Hill/Seattle autonomous zone or Chaz..what they are calling it.. they had speakers...one speaker ask all white people to give a black person 10 dollars... and said if you have trouble doing that just wait you are going have a difficult time when its time to give up your house and land...iAm not sure your “down” with the movement... just think about that.
