    Very nice, this is how airplane wings are made! We do put check marks on opposite corners of your template, and sound off in sequence so that the cut is parallel. So it’s a two person job.

    Just a comment about fumes and safety when hotwiring foam, I previously wore a respirator when doing this but since this is minimal exposure I didn't bother and the door was open. If you are worried then by all means wear one, never hurts. My favorite is the 3M with organic vapor charcoal cartridges.
    Eye protection as well as the hot wire can snap when cutting, an eye and hotwire do not mix!

    Good way to get the job done. I was thinking to laminate 1/2 inch sheets in a jig to create the curve, but the hot wire will be cleaner.

    Tip: spray the water AFTER you have spread the glue, to stop it from acticating too early.

    i have a mad idea for a finless board with gull wings a little way towards the rear of the side edge, when the board is on the edge the wings act like fins...it will need a bit of cross bracing maybe with some kind of metal weave..and the glass might not stay on those sharp edges so it might need a surface coating with araldite...raised outrigger fins....i'm sure there must be jetski hull designs with a similar concept

    Awesome videos. Currently bringing foam down over the Stringer so I can use my sanding block to bring the rest down. Question is after I hot-wired top and bottom are no longer exactly level so even if my rack is level whichever surface is facing down won't be level therefore messing up the other side on block sanding. Don't know if I'm making sense explaining this. Any ideas to make this easier? Thanks Tom in Florida

    15:45 lay some baking paper on it and then clamp down one of those wooden planks you had in the last video... baking paper stops the plank getting stuck down.

    Great videos! Making my first board in xps based on your first board series. I was thinking about making one in xps without stringer. Os it posible or will it be too weak? Any ideas?

  • @riverskate

    such a good series andrew, mahalo. question: if you don't have a stringer (i'm making a very thick SUP; didn't seem necessary), can you still hotwire off the two profile templates -- or will the hotwire tend to drag in the middle without that center guide? appreciate it!

    Hi Bro! thanks a lot for all your videos. its a invaluable experience for everyone. Ive already made my first sup and all thanks to you.Tell please after some years later are you following to glue sheets with PPU glue? may be there is something else to glueing? I wish you good luck!

    Would be cool to make a giant vice to clamp the whole thing at once.

  • @adrianofn1560
    @adrianofn1560 6 лет назад

    you could make the board without stringer enough to reinforce in the lamination, as it is a current trend and would still reduce the inperfections at the time of the cut of the outline. Even though it was excellent

    hi andrew, great vid!! i saw you cut the blank into half with the hotwire, however i wonder how you have perfectly flatten the cut surface? in order to attach the stringer, the cut surface must be perfectly flat, do you agree? thanks and greetz from austria :) ryo

    • @AndrewWorkshop
      @AndrewWorkshop  7 лет назад

      Yes, I didn't show it but I just went over it again with the wire to clean it up. And thanks for viewing from Austria, beautiful country, hope to visit again someday!

      Thank you, clearly understood. I will cut this weekend my first EPS blank with my DIY hotwire along the stringer, very curious on the outcome. As I am landlocked, I will shape a wakesurfboard for the danube river, you can check my video, not that professional as yours though... If you have the chance to visit Austria, please feel free to let me know :)

    What is the size of your board?

  • @wildsauu
    @wildsauu 7 лет назад

    It just came into my mind because last time I did that (I copied your method as I watched your previous vidoes) to align the outer templates and make them sit exactly where the stringer is supposed to be is a bit of an pain in the arse and also suspecible for mistakes.
    So one would not have to measure everything exactly in order to align the outer templates to the stringer, if the blank is still intact and not cut in half. So changing the order by trace the outer stringer templates with the hitwire and after that cut the blank in half and glue in the original stringer would result in less measuring and probably in a more precise outcome?
    I hope you can get my english.
    Tom

    • @AndrewWorkshop
      @AndrewWorkshop  7 лет назад

      I had wondered about the fumes in the past. I researched it a bit and basically for the amount I am cutting the toxicity is minimal. Then again keeping any fumes out of our body is probably best. If I was doing this every day I might keep a respirator on.
