    I wanted to thank you for showing me the 'walk' method of winding the shuttle, I am a new tatter and I use Lizbeth size 20. I love this thread, I learned to tat with this thread, and I had just accepted the twisting as part of tatting. Since I started walking my shuttle to wind my thread, I have had way less issues with the twisting and tatting has become much easier- the movements are becoming more natural, less awkward, fussing with that twist on the second half of the double stitch. I have been watching a lot of videos lately on tatting by the different people who teach this craft and although I have learned bits and pieces from all of them, I enjoy your videos the most and learn better from a teacher who talks to me about what she is doing. I am a beader first, a tatter second- but this craft is quickly gaining more and more of my time. I learned to bead from awesome teachers like Gianna, Sara, Ruby and Sidonia. I have high respect for RUclips teachers, it's not easy to do what you do, and thank you for sharing your gift and your knowledge with me.

      Andrea Epperson Thank you for watching. you know you can use beads with your tatting and come up with some beautiful jewelry pieces. Size 20 Lizbeth is my go to thread of choice. I love the colors and I love that that tatting doesn't need blocking like using the dmc threads or the crochet cottons. It is because Lizbeth is a 6 ply strand whereas the crochet cotton and dmc threads are 3 ply. The dmc cordonette is 6 ply tatting thread but hard to find in a size 20. Another way to help with the twist and closing rings is to add a half stitch at the end of the ring and put your shuttle thru the ring to where the core is coming from the back of the ring and then let the shuttle spin it will take out the remainder of the twist and also keep the edges of the ring from folding back onto itself when the ring is closed. Makes it lay a bit flatter and looks really nice. by using the half stitch also helps stop the gapsosis that happens at the base of the ring when moving into the chain. Some tatters start with a half stitch and end with a half stitch. It doesn't count towards the double stitch count it is only used to hold everything right where you want it to be. So a little bit more info for you to use. Try it and see how you like it and again thank you for watching.

    wow that is great and i remember my mom using this form of tool when i was very little and she would create really cute designs on my clothing and i thought i was the bees' knees, i felt so rich! i was out one day (a few months ago..june, 2016) at a yard sale, and this odd shaped purple thing had caught my eye, i bought it not knowing what it was all i was looking at was the color, and just this morning, (10-21-2016) i took it out of the package and looked at it and went to the web site and now it is my new fascination for me a new hobby, i been learning from new videos and now i have to go hunt down some string, lol thank you!!

    EXCELLENT! Finally, someone speaking clearly about the task at hand and not about how they make chicken soup or about their pet. Very professional. Thank you. Do you have any more videos about shuttle tatting? I am a "newbie".

    I'm a left handed tatter, so winding the bobbin would be the same, but putting the bobbin in the shuttle, I would want the thread to come out the left side of the shuttle, right? I've heard that for right hand, the thread needs to feed out counter-clockwise, and lefties, it would feed out clockwise. It's still a bit confusing to me. Love your videos!

      Hi Trina. We have just gotten back and trying to get things sorted out. We are in the process of moving my dear Father in law out of his long time home. So we will be travelling alot in the near future to get that done. However the best bobbin shuttle that is so easy to use is the Clover Bobbin Shuttle. You can get that thru Lisa at the Tatting Corner or DS9. I have several and have been using them since released in the united states. I have to say by far they are the best bobbin shuttles around. They don't lose the tension and they are a little more silent than the aerlit shuttles. No key required for tension either. Best thing is the bobbins fit on a sewing machine or bobbin winder to wind them. I like to wind up several bobbins and take them with me. They also have a nice case to carry your bobbins and shuttles in and you can lay your small work in the box as well. they cost a bit more but well worth the money. Hope that helps you some.

      That's ok. I am thinking you have the GR-8 shuttles. If it is the one that is a marbled purple color. The page to get the instructions on how to use that is here www.gr-8shuttles.com/shuttle_operation.shtml and also here is a link to a video of how to use those as well. ruclips.net/video/uLr9b1lfgsQ/видео.html I hope that will help you be able to use it. Those shuttles will wind up on a bobbin winder or a sewing machine. That is one of the great features of the GR-8. Happy tatting

      There are many shuttles out there that have a screw in them. Right now I am out of town handling family matters. I will have to do some research on what shuttle you are talking about if you send me the name of the shuttle I may have something on my home computer that has the instruction on that shuttle. I won't be home until later next week. I will get back with you then. In the mean time send me the info on the type and brand you have.

    Hi. thank you very much for this video. I was stuck how to wind shuttle on my newly bought Aerlit shuttles.
    now the only problem I'm facing is that the thread is not moving out smoothly from the bobbin. I'm having to rotate it manually while inside the shuttle. any advise? thank you in advance.

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  9 лет назад

      +Jyotika Malhotra Hi and thank you for watching. The only advice I can give you on the Aerlit shuttles is that because it is new it takes awhile to loosen up a bit and then before you know it the Aerlite becomes too loose. When that happens to tighten it back up you can remedy it by getting those page reinforcements at the office supply store. They come in a package and look like little paper rings on a sheet. Each sheet will have like 20 on them. You can put one on each side of the bobbin to tighten it up or you can put a sliver of a small rubber band around the inside of the bobbin. That is just one of the drawbacks to the aerlits. I have a couple of them but rarely use them after I bought my GR-8 shuttles. Bestitched.com sells a really nice wood bobbin shuttle for like 25 dollars. Not as expensive as the GR-8 shuttles but just as nice. The GR-8 shuttles are handcrafted by Gary and Randy Houtz. They are very nice gentlemen. Nancy Tracy the lady who owns Bestitched is also a reputable vendor to buy from. If you live near the UK Roseground is another reputable company to purchase wood bobbin shuttles. The nice thing about all the above places to purchase from is the bobbins used in them are regular sewing machine bobbins and they hold more thread and you don't have the issues with a too tight bobbin or too loose because when you set the tension on them it stays. I hope that helps you with the aerlits. I call them disposable shuttles and they are a go to shuttle when teaching a beginner. They are a nice shuttle to learn with but as you gain knowledge then you will want something more durable. Happy Tatting and if you need any other help please feel free to ask.

    Help, how can I loosen the tension when winding the shuttle. It is tight when I try to unwind it.

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  8 лет назад

      +Esther Herrera Hi Esther. I need a bit more info before I can answer properly. However I can give some pointers on both bobbin and post type shuttles. The key is to both of them when winding is to make sure that you don't wind the thread on the shuttle tightly. Let the thread sort of walk on the shuttle and don't pull on the thread while winding. The bobbin shuttle the best answer for it is to roll the thread onto the bobbin without any hard pulling on the thread. Last piece of advice is to try and wind the thread evenly onto the shuttle as if it is done like a sewing machine does when winding a bobbin. As even as possible. I hope that will help you out. If you let me know which type of shuttle your using that would be helpful so I can figure out what the problem may be. Happy Tatting

      Beginning Tatting Video Series meant to tell you those are the Tatsy shuttles. They are large enough that you can use up to light baby weight yarn with them. However once you do use yarns with the Tatsy you can over time spring the shuttle so that it will only work with the yarns. The tatsy shuttles can be used also with most tatting threads. I have used as small as a size 20 thread with the tatsy shuttles.

      Beginning Tatting Video Series thank you. I am a new shuttle tatters...I learned with a needle first. I currently have two shuttles, how many would you suggest for a newbie like me. Your videos, by the way, are what helped me figure out the shuttle method.

    • @BeginningTattingVideoSeries
      @BeginningTattingVideoSeries  10 лет назад

      Erin Epps I started buying shuttles as I went along learning myself. I always say you can't have too many shuttle's. If your doing a project that is a big time consuming one you don't want to take your thread off and lay it to the side to start something smaller. I have in my collection probably a good 40 shuttles, and honestly I find that I am running into something I want to make like a pair of earrings and need another color than what isn't on any of my shuttles. As you go along you will find you just never have enough. But for starters I would say to get a couple of the value packs. Clover puts out one that has like 3 or 4 shuttles in them. that way your not winding and removing your thread constantly. Tatting can be addictive and with it comes so many things you can make. As time goes on you will buy more and more shuttles. I know of some tatters that have over 100 shuttles. I am so glad I could help you. I know how difficult it can be to find a video that is up close and clear to learn the important things about tatting and that is the reason I started this series. You should come into the classes Georgia Sietz sponsors they will really help and also you will meet some very knowledgeable tatters in there. They can also find you a tatting buddy that lives close to you. Here is the link for that site, www.georgiaseitz.com/newtat/index.htm
      We would love for you to join us. We have class for beginners on Thursday at 2 different times. I am a regular there and I help with the class. You will love Cynthia and the rest of the gang. Hope to see you there.
