- Backup Generator DUROMAX 13000EH enclosed. 3 Final Run, with CENTRAL Air Conditioner 4 Ton GOODMAN at full operating perfectly. THE BEST GENERATOR running whole house. run my Central AC, But I am so confident in this DUROMAX GENERATOR 13000EH, That I showed it to my friends, and now they are going to do the same setup. I AM TELLING YOU, IT WORKS SO SMOOTH. All my friends thought that this will never run the 4 Ton A/C and the house ALL TOGETHER, but you can see it does it all. I love it!,,,AWSOME!!!, REMEMBER, I GOT A SOFT START INSTALLED ON MY A/C, it's cheap, dont worry, but it will also make your A/C last longer. Also need 2, 45 degrees copper welded solders together for the exhaust, so it can have a bigger exhaust, let me know if you need more pictures, send me your EMAIL.
I built the plastic shed, but I bought it from Sams Club and than I made all the Mods without putting it together, first, I made all the Holes and installed everything even the fan. Its easier that way, Than I started putting it together using a good brown polyurethane silicone on all the edges that unite the seams of the shed together.
These are some items I used below on the links. Walker (40000) 1" Diameter - 25' Galvanized Flex Tube. Don't forget the last one on the bottom, for the floor of the Generator for Vibration, Horse Mat for Stalls.

Great job, I have same generator in similar box. Worked great during hurricane Ian here in central Fl. I did have issue running with gas would not start. Your going to need 100 pound bottle of propane . I do have a question who makes 90degree elbow on exhaust ? Your link is incorrect also info on surge protector..
Hi thanks, but i didn't put the surge protector, send me your email to send you the surge protector for my WHOLE HOUSE. I can send you the pictures for the 45 degrees of 2 I used together for running the exhaust.
The connection from flex pipe to generator muffler is 90 degree adaptor ? What did you use there ?
@@Ray-fm3ek I used 2 45 degrees togother so it can have a large turn radius for the exhaust., let me know your email so i can send you some pictures, the link to buy it is above, i corrected it. thank you
This is one of the best videos for this setup I could have asked for, thank you sir!
THANK you so much, take care
There should be a interlock between the main breaker and generator breaker. Thats dangerous
YES Very true, if its for people that dont know what they are doing, but for me, I know exactly what I am doing every step of the way and I labeled every step from A to C, so for me I love it. Besides there is now interloc for my setup, I tried that. Thank you
Thanks from the South Texas Gulf Coast!!! Congratulations on your investment and video, because a purchase of the Duromax 13000EH is in my future.

Amazing video!! Thank you 🤩🤩🤩
Glad you liked it!!
Loved your presentation. You’re awesome! 😁🤣
Thank you so much! (:
We have a 3300 sq ft home with two 4 ton heatpump/AC units with airhandlers, and well pump, and were able to run ONE of the AC's unit along with the well pump, refrigerator and a freezer with no problem. The AC units were made in 2015 so not really new. We ran all of this on just propane so it would be even better if we ran gas.
WOW NO WAY awsome thank you
Great video and set-up..gonna try and replicate it… thanks for sharing!!
You got it , its just step by step, on all the sheets of the shed, i also siliconed every shed panel together to make it more waterproof. good luck , let me know how it came out
Nice enclosure. I have the 12500 Hybrid running on natural gas and it runs very nicely. Thanks for the video.
Thank you, I love these machines, works great, I wish i had the natural gas, but no service in my area! I asked but they didnt want to bring it to my street!
Wow wish I could be like you one day, awesome! !!!
Thank you:)
You may want to install soft start for your ac unit. Reduces start up amps by over half.
Yes I did the soft start also,, that helps alot for your AC also startup, so it can reduce the start up Amps. Thank you so much
I wonder why nobody makes an enclosure for portable generators. I am too old to start doing that now but somebody’s missing out on a small fortune or maybe even a big fortune!
Yes thats true, much better! thank you
Nice set up.
THANK YOU
That is a great system. I have saved your video and will copy your work. I just got the same generator and I’ve just test run it and no problems. Also, I’m waiting on a Micro Air Soft Start for my 5 ton a/c. When I get everything completed I will send a video/pics. Loved your video.
Yes thank you, that is perfect with a soft start, That is what i used also , perfect. thank you
"you like that" lol looks good sir. My mind is made up. I'm getting this generator!
YES Sir thank you
Nice setup. Mine will be here by Nov. 6th. This will complete my 6 month survival for the "lets go Brandon" movement. :)
Awsome, thats a great generator. hope you love it!
Nice setup~! Thanks for the video. I just bought this generator and waiting for delivery on Friday.
NOTE: I'd suggest taking your exhaust 'up' toward the roofline to dissipate it better and avoid any fumes coming into house; would need a hood to prevent water.
Here in Fort Worth you have to have an interlock or transfer switch to meet electrical code (physically prevents the ability to have Main and Generator breakers both on at same time).
well the fumes are coming out to back yard direction, and the switch was not done, because i just chose it that way to do it manually and i put instructions for anybody else in my family to do it correctly. I just like it for me to control everything and its easy, SHUT OFF MAIN POWER FIRST ALWAYS THAN TURN ON GEN BREAKER. THANK YOU
@@ORLANDOBUSA that’s fine but legally you need an interlock switch. Instructions don’t prevent accidents and the switch physically prevents you from having an accident. It’s only a few bucks to add the switch
@@HollywoodBush yes Thank you so much, I tried getting one for my purpose , but did not find one that works the exact breakers fitting position. thank you
@@ORLANDOBUSA Check with your homeowners insurance. If you have an electrical fire they may not pay because your wiring is not up to code. They may not cover if someone gets hurt because of your setup. Check with the manufacturer of your service panel. Most have or can recommend the appropriate interlock for your panel. In a worse case situation you can replace the service panel with one that is suitable for you generator use. Doing it right can be cheap liability insurance.

I have that same generator with the natural gas kit installed. Works great.

Ok 👌🏼 PERFECT
Nice video. You did a great job with that generator shed. I can tell you from experience with super storm sandy having a large generator that runs at 3600 rpm can eat up fuel in a hurry. Had a Honda es6500 and I can tell you the damn thing was thirsty. I had a natural gas kit on it but it didn’t help me because the gas company turned off the
gas. Had to run it on propane and gasoline which was hard to find. Switched over to an eu7000IS that sips fuel compared to that Es6500 and it’s much quieter. It’s not cheap but if I ever go through another big storm I’ll be able to keep the lights on much longer
OH wow, awsome , thanks
Nice job. I have the same generator but in the 10,000 watt configuration. I've had it for 6 or 7 years now and they seem to be making them bigger (thankfully) and bigger. I'm in the desert so my A/C is too big to run off of these generators but you have a great setup there. Congrats.
oh wow the desert, thats cool. thank you take care and be safe

👍🏼 🙏🏼
you never know! that might be able too!
Look into the Hyper Engineering Sure Start kit! It goes in your AC condenser and reduces the starting inrush current by 70% You should be able to run your AC with it. I am putting one on my 5 ton unit this week, and hope to power it with this same 13000 genny, (10,500 running watts). There are videos of guys running 3 ton units on 6500 watt gens with the Sure Start kit.

Great. Thanks for the information. I'm going to check it out. 👍
Really cool...(pun intended) So it appears that your home is likely running on a 200-amp panel. The Duromax 13000EH puts out (87.50A / 43.75A), and that 4-ton Goodman sucks up about 20amps, you showed the one fridge plus lights etc. What do you figure the total pull of amps on the Duromax was at full demand?
Yes all that is true, and working great, the total pull, I am not sure, because I am not good on that part, just the fabrication part. But it works great for a long time as long as I feed it Propane which I got a bigger tank now, so I leave gasoline for the last resort due to make sure its clean and dont go bad on the propane., you like my idea?
I have the same generator and it won’t start my 2 1/2 ton unit. Did you add a soft start kit or something else?
Yes I have added a soft start, my unit is 4 ton, thanks
The only thing you should do is remove your propane bottle from inside the shed, put it outside, but other than that it's a nice system
I agree with your comment Scott. All other components are just fine. His setup is very clean and neat. I would put the tank outside and on its own pad, have it secured with straps or bungee cords. Adjustable straps preferably. .
Yeah this is a bomb waiting to explode!
How’s that any different than a propane grill? It’s actually safer because theirs no open flame.

You can buy a box called ZombieBox
If I remember correctly, current day 4 ton hvacs used about 4000 watts running and 12k to start. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
Sooo...50 amp connector is good for 12k watts so fine on running watts but peak could be sketchy. They have soft start kits for condensers but as we can see here, it was handling just fine.
@@onetruedodd The ZombieBox costs more than the generator. I think it was like $2600 or even more.
How long will your generator run with that propane tank? Have you thought about getting a soft start device so you’re AC will come on instantly? It’ll also reduce your energy costs. Great set up! I like how you enclosed your generator. Because carbon monoxide is lighter than air I think I would have it routed to above your roofline with a cap over it to prevent water getting into your line.

Yes, I installed a soft start system and works much better. thank you so much
@ORLANDOBUSA I thought so Thanks that is a future project to do.
Great video, if it were an emergency and at night and you only had the AC turned on, how long would your Generator keep running?
Hi , I have not tried yet, but we have some storms coming this year at Miami so at least I am ready to go.
It depends on the tank of propane, which I just got a 100 gallon tank filled. should be good though! Thank you
Just a note on the gasoline run time. I have the same generator, I ran it for 5 hours break-in, changed the oil, then used it to power our 42 foot 5th wheel RV for 4 nights, 10 hours per night, with both AC units running non-stop in 90-100* heat. The 2 hottest nights, it would run out of fuel right at 10 hours. (Holds 8.3 Gallons). The 2 milder nights, low of 85-90* the 2 AC compressors would run constant for 2-3 hours, then cycle on and off. It used 5 gallons those nights, so 1/2 gallon per hour. Each AC is 13,500 BTU, so combined they are almost 2-1/2 tons, with lighting, inverter, battery charger and other loads, it was probably equivalent to running a 3 ton home AC. After that, changed the oil again at 45 hours run time, to full synthetic. Should extend it's life, and maybe improve efficiency a bit. I am going to try running it on propane today. Getting a transfer switch put in next week, to run the house. AC unit is 5 tons, so probably going to need a soft start kit to reduce the max inrush current.
@@danm400 Yes Thank you, I also have a soft start on my AC.
Do you have the entire house running off the generator or select items? Like refrigerators, lights, A/C and water heater. I just bought the same generator and my A/C is only a 2 1/2 ton.

@@Ssbad24 Yes , My RPM goes up with my Electrice Water heater Ecosmart, but I shut off everything else and use the shower at that time so the RPM just goes up a little. Hot water is mainly used for a shower first, but in emergency cases , I have taken Cold showers. So you should be good. thank you
@@ORLANDOBUSA 👍 Thanks man!!
I ordered the 12000EH and have the same expectations. How long do you think a 20lb. tank will last??
probably about 3 hours
Do you leave the propane inside the inclousure box while generator is running for a long period of time?
YES because its always air flowing with the intake vent on one end, and the exhaust fan on the other. thank you
Air flow ought to be left to right and the exhaust extended to the right and past the A/C. The generator's engine has both its air intake (air filter and air blower suction) on the left. With that design, the exhaust fan would be fighting with the engine air intakes and the inside of the shed would be swimming in air turbulence.... with the exhaust fan pushing the air right to left while the engine blower is pushing the air left to right.
Got it , its been working great for me, constant power and no issues at all, as long as the cross draft runs inside from right to left, from big air vent to the exhaust fan pulling. Thank you
No. It wouldn't. His design is excellent, and hundreds of others have done the same.
@@paulmysliborski4832 It won't probably kill it immediately and would be reasonably fine in relatively cold climates. But I would argue that these air-cooled engines as well as the stator generate lots of heat and will very much benefit from optimal airflow. To put it another way, these open-frame generators weren't designed to operate with an enclosure, but since you're putting it in one, it makes sense to give it the best chance at cooling itself. Just saying.
What’s the oils capacity of this unit? I just purchased this same generator

@@sylviobravo6727 THANK YOU SO MUCH, ALOT OF WORK AND PLANNING OUT!
What would happen if you closed the utility bkr before you opened the generator bkr and generator running? Interlocked?
I DONT UNDERSTAND YOU, THE BREAKER FROM THE MAIN PANEL OR THE ONE FOR THE GENERATOR?
@@ORLANDOBUSA just asking if panel bkrs are interlocked so both can't be closed at same time.
OH Sorry, I got you, No they are not, but you can put one if you like, I just like doing it myself, I feel more secure and better that way, depends on each person. Thank you
The purpose of an interlock is so you don’t put power to the grid. You either can have the main breaker on or the generator breaker on but not both at the same time. In the event power goes out and someone accidentally forgot to turn off the main breaker and you turned on your emergency generator it would back feed into the grid. If the electric company was working on the lines thinking there was no power and you were feeding power back into the grid, you could hurt someone and YOU would be liable.
@@ORLANDOBUSA you need to research an interlock switch because it sounds like you don’t understand how it works based off this comment.
How do you legally prevent backfeed? That propane will last about 3.5 hours at 50% load. Hope you have lots of fuel!
I protect the back feed by turning off the Breaker that specifically says POWER TO FPL, so I dont have any problem reading it and its labeled really good. So in the middle of a storm when your power goes out you are going to go outside and turn on all your switches and the generator ?
HI SIR, IF YOU DONT REMEMBER, EVERY STORM WE HAD, THE POWER IS SHUT OFF WAY BEFORE THE STORM HITS 100% , THAT WILL GIVE TIME TO TURN IT ON, TAKES 1 MINUTE. Dont be afraid of the wind in the beginning, its just 40 mile per hour winds, that is when the power company shuts off the power due to the winds. And if you want, you can turn off your power before, everyone has a choice. At the end of the day, the main thing is to be prepared with electricity and not be caught in the DARK. Thanks for your comment!
good explanation. Thanks
Are you going to make videos on how you set up the system?
Hi Sir, I already did, if you see my first 2 videos, 1 2 and final is 3. thank you sir
Yes thats why i did this so i can control when i want and need it. you can probably do the same with another inlet breaker system like i did to turn off the power company and turn on the generator breaker. thanks , do you like my system?
how long will a bottle of propane last with this generator? I just bought it and building the same set up as you.
like 3 hours if not pushing to much, but I will get a 100 gallon in the future. thank you
I’m not sure about where you are, but where I live, connecting a backup generator to the panel without a circuit breaker interlock or transfer switch installed is illegal and against code, not too mention potentially dangerous. Other than that, I do like your generator shelter.
thank you , i am in Miami,
Agree-must have either a main breaker interlock OR a generator transfer switch. This, while it works, is not up to code because of safety. It is entirely possible for someone to power on and connect the generator circuit while still on live utility power. (Dangerous fire hazard)
It’s also possible to power on and connect the generator during a power outage without disconnecting the utility feed- resulting in back feeding the utility line and electrocuting an unsuspecting utility worker repairing downed lines.
It’s an unsafe problem because there’s no lockout equipment preventing a backfeed. Please get an electrician to make this safe. A building code inspector would never sign off on your setup.
@@drband8181 Yes thank you, I am well aware of all that, I also have and inside Power back that is wound on the main power for when power comes back, it starts beeping sound loud.
Remember I chose to do this because I know what I am doing and am in control and know when to shut off the main power and when to turn it on, including the well instructions labeled on the panel. But yes If you choose to go with other options, you can do what you choose, because I just feel much more in control of the system I have and I love it, I test it out every 3 months shutting down the main Power from the Power company with just a Breaker Switch on the top if you see it. And it works great for me ever since, perfectly with no problems.
@@drband8181 For a brand new system I am very surprised. He is setting on a very big problem.
As a state licensed inspector, and owner of this same 13K in a shed and properly connected, I agree and confirm the fact that you must install a automatic transfer switch or manual interlock for your Main. This is an illegal connection and your preference, abilities and intentions are irrelevant. There are grave consequences for improper actions and negligence. Ignorance of the law is no excuse. Sir you look to do your best and to do the best of your ability, but I encourage you to have a licensed electrician make the necessary changes. Otherwise, good job! I also agree that the fuel tank should be removed prior to use for safety purposes.
What did you use for the out side exhaust cover. The black connection
Oh you mean the pipe that goes inside the or the cover that I painted epoxy black aluminum? that was from home depot in one of my links above so it can divert the pipe coming out downwards so the rain will never get in! thank you
How did you get the walker 1” (4000) to fit over the exhaust tip? I can’t get it to fit. The tubing appears to be slightly smaller. Any suggestion? Will the walker 4001 (1.25”) work?
yea you have to use a copper fitting 2 of 45 degree or 1 90 degree and the inner part of the smaller side fits perfectly to the exhaust tip and the larger side fits perfectly into the Walker on the inside of the copper. thank you
@@ORLANDOBUSA what size are those copper fittings? Also do you think it would be better if that walker hose was from the outside of the copper fitting from both ends? Where you able to tighten good with the u bolt and for preventing any possible leak?
yes that came out tight with exhaust sealer permatex and that is a 1 inch copper so it can fit into the exhaust and the Walker perfectly, thank you
Duromax states an oil change every 20hrs run time??!
yes thats easy, dont worry thanks
Orlando, with everything running how long did that 20Lb tank last for? How many hours?
ABOUT 3 TO 4 HRS, but i am thinking about getting a 100gallon in the future.
@@ORLANDOBUSA that’s not bad for having everything running... thanks bro!
@@brianeng2129 Thanks man, have a great holiday!

What do you for security to keep the generator from being stolen?
Hi, Well , where it is is a very narrow area, that it will not fit unless taking apart the plastic shed. so it will never have that problem, thank you
@@ORLANDOBUSA His AK
Just make sure you have tons of propane and gas on hand for when it's time to use it when you need it most.
Yea, im planning to get a 100 gallon propane tank, that will give me a week of running without the AC on only at night.
Do you have a soft start or sure start on this A/C?
SOFT start, works better
@@ORLANDOBUSA which brand/model do you have on your a/c? Thanks
4 ton Goodman With slow start
What size is the breaker for the interlock? douible 50 ?
Yes double 50. sorry, my electrician did that part to replace the whole box with the Meter, because I am not good at that. the outside meter didn't have a Box with breakers thats why.
Can you tell me Where did you get the elbow for the exhaust pipe and what size is it?
Yes sure, here is the exact link and I soldered both together using platinum for the heat resistance to weld with not lead solder. Thank you

the question is ? using all your equipment at the home, with AC on, how long will the tank of gas last you? You should consider since you have a nice set up to run it on natural gas.
Hi, Depends what is on , i never tried it with the AC and the Range cooking at the same time, But the AC and the frig is more important, and the lights, working perfectly, i never tried how long, yes i Know but there is no Natural gas around her for connection, the company dont want to do that, but i will get a bigger tank.
Need some help, what size exhaust hose did you use, and where did you get it. I tried two and one was too big, 1.25" and one too small 1", the first slipped off and the second slipped into the generator's exhaust pipe. Any ideas, was the exact same Generator you have ..
Walker Exhaust 40000 - Walker Exhaust Flex Tubing

Where did you get the coupling and flex for the exhaust?
I got it from the links i attached above. i made it easy for you, and put all the things on the links for you to check on what you need to get. thank you.
Thanks for the vid and love your setup. How much runtime do you usually get out of a 20 pound tank?
I dont know yet because all I do is test it every month for about 5 minutes , just incase for that bad light out time, so far it has not happened. but im ready to go! thanks
I bought the same generator. Have read multiple places that you should get a 40 pound tank (minimum). The small grill size tanks will give 5 to 8 hours run time at 50 percent load, but they tend to ice up or freeze at the valve after 3 to 4 hours, because they are not designed to flow that much gas volume.
@@danm400 mine doesnt freeze up, maybe because i am in Miami, but yes , I got a 100 gallon tank just for long runs. thank you
@@ORLANDOBUSA Excellent, glad to hear that. I am planning to do the same. Thank you for sharing your setup and info! Hopefully we never need them, right? :)

Hi Orlando, thanks for posting. I just bought this generator - what are the dimensions of your shed? Was it prefab (Suncast, etc.) or did you build?
Thanks - great job!
Thanks .
This is the link where I picked it at Sam's club because shipping was 50.00. So I went there to avoid the shipping charge. And I put brown silicone pure on EVERY SINGLE SEAM AS I was building it.
