DOLLKEEPING: How to Make Faux Fur Wigs for Ball Jointed Dolls

- Faux fur is an excellent material for making doll wigs. I use it primarily for my ball jointed dolls. The process is very simple and the faux fur is very forgiving. I apply hot glue to the underside of the finished wig for three reasons:
1. to seal the stitches,
2. to seal the pen or pencil marks and
3. the hot glue essentially removes the need for a silicone wig cap.

I love new hobbies! Very awesome! I love how you are able to make wigs from a variety of items with faux fur. I collect reborn dolls. But I love dolls generally. Is it difficulty find clothes for them? You mentioned working on the wardrobe for your 3ft doll.

Great question, in general it's not very difficult to find doll clothes for the normal size BJD. I tend to like big dolls and their clothes are hard to find. I sew and the best doll clothes for my big dolls are children's clothes that I can alter.

How do you go about purchasing BJD's? I've always wanted to start a collection of them but the ones I have found so far are...astronomically priced, should we say? Haha. Anyway, any helpful advice or tip on how to buy BJD's or even American Girl Dolls (any 18 inch dolls, really) would be welcome! Awesome job with the wigs, btw!
I look for sellers I trust on sites like ebay and facebook. Most of my BJDs were purchased used. When I buy new I like Mirodoll and Reainsoul. To keep the cost down you can also buy better BJD heads and put them on a less expensive body.

great question, the length of the hair always depends on the faux fur. I found really long faux fur on a throw rug at Target.
