  • Traditional bent or curved knives are essential for carving Northwest Coast Art and are some of the only knives that work for carving Northwest Coast art shapes. The Indigenous Skills: Knife Handle video compliments the Indigenous Skills: Knife Making workshop videos (available to view on the Construction Foundation’s RUclips channel) by going through the process of carving out a wooden handle to your knife blade.

Excellent little video, so full of good little tips that you’re only gonna get from a skilled crafts person. “Make your cuts on the inside of the pencil marks.” is a good example.
I’d love to see more videos on similar subjects: adze handles, sheaths for carving knives, etc.
In any case, thanks so much for sharing your indigenous art and skills with us! It will be put to good use, that’s a promise.

I am so happy to have found this video as it looks like something I can do easily at home, simple and straight forward. I would love to see a video on the making of the blades.
