Beavercraft is really a great company. Had contact with them and they have a great customer service. Additionally they are not a Chinese company exploiting their workers, but a European company in a region with a lot of history in knife making.
I have several Beaver Craft knives and gouges, I like them a lot. I know they're not the best but I've done stuff with them that I like and people want to buy. If they work for you, that's all that matters.
Beaver Craft makes some great sharp carving knives!
Love that handle! BLO + white oak = beautiful magic!
Yes, Please! Live oak is a beautiful wood when paired with BLO and Paste Wax!
I like your approach, any wood, any tool.
Its the most realistic approach, and when on a budget the only one.
Of course as we learn that changes, and to each his entire. But that should be the start for anyone really.
I like the octagonal design. I think it gives the best control. The live oak is beautiful.
BLO, homemade is a lot of fun..
That live oak looks absolutely gorgeous
Love the way the grain pops
I love watching your videos! Most of the time when I need guidance on a wood project I come here and search for a similar video. Sometimes the tips I'm looking for a project come after my interest has past but I still watch the video and when I need it I go over the parts where I thought was useful.
Nice handle. My grandson made a few handles for my rasp and file set. He would love that handle.
Great little project. Love that live oak. Now you need to make a wooden cover for the blade. :)
Great little knife, and you're right that live oak is spectacular!
Those knife blanks look nice. But that handle turned out awesome!
That oak is gorgeous
I went beaver craft when i bought my whittling kit. Thinking it’s my go too
Keep doing what you're doing, this is one of my favorite channels.
It's alive!!! At least now if you make a mistake when carving you can blame the knife.
Well done on the handle. What a great transformation undertaken by the live oak once the BLO was applied!
Little tip that I use making handles,
I use playdough and grip it everyway I would use the knife to make a mock up/template to transfer to the wood, it gives a personalized ergonomic handle
I like doing that for handles that I always grip in the same direction. There was a carving knife you're always switching the grip from a pencil hold to handle grip to a close slide to a finger press and a lot of others.
Carving knives... Another skill to learn 👌
Great use for a live oak cut off
Live oak looks great James and a nice a simple project for numptys like me :D
Great job. I like the octagonal handle idea. Keeps from rolling off the bench.
That handel looks super cool.
That live oak is beautiful
The live oak is so beautiful
That live oak made a really sharp knife! :)
Great looking handle love the choice of live oak and thanks for the opportunity in the giveaway
You handled that knife pretty well !!!
Love the show. Makes me want to do more wood working.... or maybe just some whittling
i like the simple and easy projects gives me ideas for my weekends off from work
The blank just came alive just wright 😂
You need to make a wood 'cap' for the knife that matches the handle. Just for shop safety. Or, a leather one.
Live oak is basically like a little kid: it's tough to work with, but the feeling you get when you see the results is incredible
yes it is
Wow! That is a great analogy!
Nice project, I love making custom handles that feels right in my hands.
looking forward to some whittling!
I do have to agree that handle is beautiful, awesome work and I’m sure you will be happy to pick it up. I’d be making up reasons to just so I can look at it.
Thanks for showing this video
gorgeous piece of live oak! Anxious to see what videos you make using your new knife!
I have used my Ka-Bar knife to carve a wooden spoon from a piece of apricot.
Love the color pop
Love the look of the live oak
i'm just commenting to get a shot at the blank :)
I love the look of live oak. I made a mallet head out of it. Nice job!
I have a couple Beaver Craft knives. I like them. Very nice handle. I tend to do the drill a hole and split a dowel method for flat tang blades. Thanks for the video!
I think some Queensland Silky Oak would look great as a handle. Keep up the interesting content.
Cheers Terry McCarthy
Good day to you! I'm just getting into hand tool work, and one of my upcoming projects is making a new handle for a broken bread knife. So this tutorial is perfectly timed :)
Love the channel!
Peace
That looks like it was a lot of fun to make.
It's so satisfying seeing a finish project come together, and it's even more satisfying when you use a tool that you made yourself, even you just made the handle. That little personal touch makes all the difference in the world.
Another awesome tool making video. Great to see your vids cause you include info with mistakes that let amateurs like me know that it’s gonna be ok.
Love the Live Oak!
As many people pointed out I really like the octagonal handles too and awesome video enjoyed it. I guess there is a typo in the thumbnail ;) have a good day
I have worked on stacked leather handles and I’ve done other wood projects. I am really interested in trying this. I am a beginner but I love trying new projects and knives are really cool.
Cool Handle James!!!! Thank You!!! 👍😎😃
Great looking live oak!
I love white oak. I turned and carved a complete chess set a while back. Carving is fun, with sharp edged tools. Looking forward to do more carving on future projects.
I enjoy the small projects you do, Keep up the great work James.
As time is scarce it is great to be able to get into the shop and knock out a small project every now and then!
Should have used the red gum. That would be my choice here is Australia!
Thanks for the give away! I can handle it!
Great video and beautiful handle. Peace, from South Africa.
Love the choice of live oak. Thanks for the video.
James love what you did with making the knife you inspired me and answered my questions I was having about making a handle for a knife
Loved the videos on Beaver Creek. Looking forward to trying out their stuff firsthand. Great content as usual James.
The handle turned out really nice. The live oak grain is fantastic. I think I’d probably like the octagonal handle more than the standard round one on my Mora carving knife.
Sometimes simple is just what a handle needs. Well done
Love the live oak!
I liked the way that turned out! Very nice.
Beautiful live oak. I haven’t worked with that yet but definitely want to!
that handle looks great
Looking forward to trying some live oak. Thanks for sharing the build.
Thank you for sharing your skills and opinions.
Nice to see a bit more of Tally Ho.
Thanks for this. Tried this once and learned a few things from your video
This looks like something that I can do. Thank you for your time
Nicely done. Tool projects are the best.
Great information for making your own handles
Actually, simple projects are fine to me. It means I can do it without tons of tools I don't have and in few hours. Thanks.
Cool stuff! Making your own tools can be so satisfying!
After seeing the octagonal handles, I'm leaning more towards carving it into my handles. It certainly looks attractive
Love it! The handle looks beautiful!
Been seeing a lot of octagonal handles on tools lately (vintage or otherwise), next time I turn a handle I might have to give it a try.
It is surprisingly comfortable. And it makes it very easy for your hand to know which direction the blade is going.
Really nice and easy project.
This is encouraging. I’m quite tempted to try this.
Thank you for all you do
i just love how sharp that knife is, i agree that the octagon handle is the best. and i just commented first
Congrats on first!
Great build my friend W.W
That’s a beautiful knife handle! It seems like deciding what feels comfortable in your hand would just take time and experience.
Beautiful! I like that design!
Nice knife handle. I love your channel. Thanks
Great work on that knife!
I enjoy your videos you helped me go a long way . very informative thanks for sharing
Great video! Always enjoy watching.
I like the knife.
Looks great! Simple and nice!
I do like the octagonal handle shape, and the finish on that live oak looks incredible!
I really love live oak and miss living in an area where I had nearly unlimited access to it
Great video. Gives me hope that I could get some carving tools.
Awesome James!
Great job! Fun small project I’d like to try. I have some Pecan I picked up in TX recently that might be just the thing for a knife handle.
