Love the MDX but time to upgrade the headroom and legroom for all three rows imo. In addition, they need to put air vents in the third row and increase the cargo space by at least 3 cubic feet. Acura needs to add more power to the v6 (300 hp since they discontinued the Acura RLX) and add 20-30 more hp in the Type S to widen the hp gap between the two.
My wish list for the 5th Gen MDX would be: 3 zone climate vents (can get hot with Pano roof in the SW), ventilated 2nd row seats, hybrid option, no piano black option, arm rest for 2nd row seats if center section is removed, and keep the V-6 option (w/ or w/o hybrid tech). No hybrid option with 4th Gen is keeping me in my 19 MDX Adv Sport Hybrid longer.
@@CarGeek360 I saw the Lexus TX today, it is one ugly car, nothing about it looks Lexus to me. The Mazda CX90 PHEV looks great though, great value for a plug-in hybrid if you don't mind the poor retention value of Mazda's. The MDX is definitely king amongst the three, unless you want a hybrid...then it loses to the others.
ACURA should think about adding more power to cross the psychological 300 hp mark on non-TYPE S trims. Not everyone needs a turbo charged option. I think there's a substantial gap between 290 & 355 hp IMO>
The previous Gen RLX had a NA V-6 3.5L with 310hp/272tq. Not sure why Acura didn't add this engine option to the Aspec and/or Adv models? Acura also had the Sport Hybrid powertrain for an extra 65hp/70tq with the same city/combined/hwy mpgs for only $1500 MSRP as an option for the previous Gen 17-20 MDX (it had 321hp with 26/27 mpgs EPA).
The Acura MDX has a LOT going for it still, even in the face of very stiff and newer competition. It looks better than all of its JDM competition. Yes, the TX is far superior than the Acura in space efficiency, but it comes across as Toyota Platinun rather than posh Lexus-luxury, even in top trims. The Lexus powertrains are also unrefined and just don't offer the polish of a J-Series Honda V6. And Honda's 10AT is a JEWEL of a trans. In terms of the Infiniti, the interior of the top Autograph model seems to edge Acura out ever so slightly in materials, but the overall luxury and driving experience isn't as good as the Acura, given the excellent dynamics and SH-AWD of the MDX. Moreover, I'm glad that Acura has at long-last paired Advance and A-Spec. I just wish Acura would've taken the piano black plastic used in the interior and instead painted the wheel moldings on the exterior. And I'm glad to see the B&O sound system retains the noise canceling abilities of the ELS system, which was already an underrated and outstanding system. The only issue for the Acura is that the pricing is starting to encroach on the Europeans and especially on lease rates. But Lexus, Acura, and Genesis is no longer playing the value card because all of their midsizers can hit in the mid 70s easily. And for the love of all things Holy: Acura, PULEAZE add rear air vents to the 3rd row!😊
Thank you for another great review! RE the audio system in the advance model, is it one of the best stock systems and how does it compare to the outoginng model? How is the bass?
I’d like it if it weren’t for the gloss black plastic. Also, I assume that there is no cargo cover to give the third row area visual security when the seats are folded down. If true, my 2003 Camry would have almost the same ‘covered’ cargo area. Lastly, the second row fold down armrest, when folded down, allows for objects behind them to come barreling through upon a quick stop. And removing it does not make the second row seats “captain’s” seats, because there will no longer be center armrests.
This color combo is great, especially when you look at the colors other competition has. However if you’re comparing this to a CX-90 which is what we’ve taken a look at before i feel like the 90 is a better overall vehicle than the Acura. I’ve been in both I just havent been in an mdx as recent as the 90 but when it comes down to material use and finishes the mazda has the more natural and original feel than the acura. Gloss black just cheapens the look and feel of a car now n days and im sure the dust and finger prints are gonna be a pain to keep clean in the long run. The way Mazda did the CX-90’s interior is very Volvo like in the materials used and its something I like to take in consideration when I look at the CX-90 and put it against the premium rivals even down to the powertrain. 58 almost 59k for the mazda we looked at and this is basically 70 thousand… if were up to you guys, which vehicle would you guys get?
Mazda seems to be moving up market into luxury but for the money this MDX feels just as luxurious as Lexus and BMW. Not Audi or Mercedes level yet but so much better than the 2016 I traded in.
If I was in the market for a new MDX, this is the one I’d buy, it looks really good (especially with accessories) and ik the reliability will be equally great, I like the Type-S but it’s nowhere near as reliable as the non Type-S and the low-profile tires will get flats on bad roads
The type-s isn't enough of a performance increase over the base model to justify the extreme price hike. Sort of like how ford slaps ST on stuff but doesn't increase the performance enough over the base models to justify the badge.
@@TMS5100 I get what you mean but that’s also very subjective, my thing is the Type-S MDX isn’t as reliable as the non Type-S and the Type-S has low-profile tires which are more prone to flats than the thicker tires on the non Type-S, doesn’t even have to do with money
@carconfections after driving the type s first and now the aspec.Does the type s feel faster? How would compare the two? What are some of the things good or bad if someone is trying to decide between the two
I would go for the Type-S if you live high altitudes because the turbo can compensate. My old 3.7L 11 MDX would make more noise than power at 5000-7200ft in NM; but, my 08 RDX turbo would kick some butt in the same conditions. Downside with the turbo is the mpgs.
I’m confused on who their competition is, 51-75k is on par with Full Size SUVs especially at that 60k+ price point😅 and the amount of options at these price ranges makes me question peoples buying decisions if they’re choosing a glorified Honda. Midsize SUVs lose value way faster than sedans and full size vehicles🤔 Even a 2024 Type S costing 75k books for 63k MAX today. I would say these are terrible from an investment perspective.🤷♂️
You should never view a non- classic car as an investment. All of these vehicles depreciate like crazy the moment you drive them off the lot. A car is about the worst things you can "invest" your money in. Most people shopping for premium or luxury vehicles either lease or aren't concerned with value the vehicle loses.
Not sure why Acura can't put more than two vents in the 2nd row and something in the 3rd row/hatch area? Factor in the Pano sunroof living in the southwest and the A/C can hardly keep up.
I’m one of the few who likes both, the TX is better for space, the MDX is better for sportiness, you can’t go wrong with either, both are WAY better than the new QX60 imo
@@CarGeek360 I don’t know what’s wrong with the Geek360 person. Every car review that’s out there you seems to put 2 cents about the INFINITI QX60. I have the Qx60 and I love it.
