- This video is a final part of my experiments with Xbox Series SSD drives.
You can download xbfs-tool repository here:

The NVME enclosure I used in the video can be purchased here:
US: amzn.to/3KHe7bB
UK: amzn.to/41B3jS8
EU: amzn.to/3ZlExE0
if you're looking for USB4/Thunderbolt4 NVME enclosure this is one of the best and cheapest USB4/TB4 enclosure you can get: bit.ly/3SHmpUJ
This is another great product - USB4/Thunderbolt4 hub with NVME combined: bit.ly/3sA91XW
Acasis are making great quality products and they have BF discounts so it's the best time to buy.
Feel free to browse all their products: bit.ly/3sIE6sp
I have both enclosures, tested them and will make a quick video about them soon. But in summary - they are the best TB4 NVME enclosures I've ever had.

first good night, I came here to say that this video was one of the best I've ever seen in my life, because thanks to it I managed to recover my xbox series s that because of my fault I almost lost it, but Retro Tech Corner saved me, I got in touch with him, a super attentive guy, answered me, helped me in every possible way and I managed to save my game, I just have to thank him because the guy is very professional in what he does, he won a subscriber on the channel and a card fan, I'm going to always here watching and enjoying all your videos.
Top work,
In the next video let's try an expansions card, as I know some Chinese adapters allow express x2 sad installed and use like original adapters. Upgrading memory in this way I think is more possible if it works like an internal storage
Thanks for the tool. My raw partition had the boot.bak file as well. I swapped the .bak file with the boot.bin and the XSX still will not boot. Of course I've tried the usually router with Macrium Reflect Linux DD commands and making sure the ssd is a SN530 1tb. Not sure what else to try at this point.
I want to congratulate you for your tool, and all this knowledge, the most advanced at the moment, only way to preserve Xbox at this moment, is to replace the internal sdd every three years, just before a SDD gets close to the end of life, clone the old SDD, copy to new one, and another three years do the same, hopefully MS changes this stupid method, as SDD get cheaper spending 50 to 70 euros every 3 to 4 years to save a console is nothing, as SDD will get faster with newer technology, this is also risky for MS, if someone decrypts those files, you will have a jailbroken console, and these newer models will be very valuable, as MS will definitely remove this method.
Watched so many of those SSD disasters so now I'm considering NVME extension to mount internal SSD at the back of my series X and do backup after every update (JUST IN CASE)
That might be a good idea. The only (potential) problem I can see is the length of the extension (and possible interference). Also - the "rf shield" and case might need to be modified...
but I agree - having a way of backup the drive up without disassembly would be great...
@@RetroTechCorner did many of this type of mods so this is not a big deal. You should see my fully modded 1040STe ;)
@@barts.517 alright you make a backup, where do you buy a new compatible sdd?
Are you offering help/advice with this sort of problem? I have one that is puzzling me. Thanks.
can you upload a raw image from series x extracted with linux many thanks
Hello. I got img, but it shows that it has boot.bak and its broken. Is there any possibility to cut it out?
Will xbfs-tool support checking corrupt file detection in the future? My Xbox does not boot up and turns off after like 5 seconds. When I inject files that are not console specific using xbfs-tool the ssd device uuid changes to all 00000s
It doesn't check for corrupted files - most of them are encrypted so it would be hard to detect corruption. I think I only check for valid header (not sure - there were a few iterations, and if I don't I update the tool in next few days).
You can send me an email and we can discuss. UUID (device) is in header so if you're getting all zeroes then the header is probably corrupted.
hello there, where i can download compiled xbox tool ??
good afternoon my dear friend, I had the same experience as you, I cloned the 1GB raw partition and put it on the ssd which, as I know, is the same model as yours, and mine was 1 terabyte, the difference is that when it gave the error E190 I made the backup again together with the 1 tera ssd, but now I can't restore the backup to the original ssd anymore because of the sectors because the original is 512 and the other 4096, is there still any solution for this one of mine? , I would like a way to get in touch with you and give you my files to see if we could still resurrect my device.
Send me an email (which is in 'About' section of my channel). Explain exactly what you did (step by step, including what drive you used, what you did etc.)
so you are saying the series xbox has another storage on it [like a bios] other than that ssd the holds update data on it?
It certainly has fuses (special one time use registers in the processor) which they "burn" on updates (so there's no way of using previous version as the fuses configuration is different and - I think - those bootloaders in boot.bin are checking it and fail if fuses configuration doesn't match)
@@RetroTechCorner oh ok , i think it is really stupid they dont want us to upgrade storage with our choice of ssd like ps5
Couldn't you just use an m.2 cloner to clone the series s ssd to the series x ssd, then just do an OSU.... pretty sure that would work, and be a lot less potential for mistakes or headaches
Cloning of the drive was not a point of this (or previous) videos.
Still get error 100, the ssd works fine.
The problem Is that mini SSD havent same performance than newer SSD in the standard format, with larger cache and higher peak performance
That's not the problem. The problem with Series S/X SSD is that it has custom firmware and MS disallow using other SSDs. Another problem is that SSD is married to your particular Xbox and you can't use SSD from another Xbox (you can but only if you can clone XBFS partition. But if your SSD is faulty and you can't recover XBFS then it's game over and you'll need to pay a lot of money to MS for a "repair"
@@RetroTechCorner its a shame anyway, upgrade internal SSD in my old One X was very Easy and clean.
Yes, that's one thing that I don't like when it comes to Series consoles. In Xbox One (all variants) that XBFS was stored on internal NAND/Flash memory and we can replace the drive with no issues. Series S/X changed that and XBFS is on the SSD and Microsoft did everything to "protect" that partition/file system... And if the SSD fails then the console is just a brick and the repair is not worth as you can get new console for pretty much the same price. There's Microsoft saving the World with their "green" policy...
