Aaaaand now I'm going to listen to my entire Misfits collection 😂
You have phenomenal taste in music
@@balladofthebroken7569 Thank you 😄
It'll only take 40 minutes 🤣🤣😂
@@inkoinfinity2 🤣🤣🤣
138 comes from the movie THX 1138. The meaning is that we're all just a number. GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME!
138 has always had my favorite guitar solo
We are 138 is a direct reference to the film THX 1138 where the androids have 138 engraved on their faceplates
I knew it was a reference to the code used by cops for disorderly conduct, which is 138
More Misfits?
"Skulls"
"Green Hell"
"Vampira"
"Earth A.D."
"Hybrid Moments"
"Astro Zombies"
I agree entirely with this list, especially Astro Zombies (my personal favorite of theirs), but would add London Dungeon to the list of mandatory listening.
Bruiser, Scream, Night of the Living Dead!
Last Caress. or something with alarming lyrics like American Nightmare
@@midnite8729 last caress is fun to shock people with but isn’t really that good of a song. American Nightmare though, that’s a banger!
@@chaospoet All I want!!! To knooooowwwwww!!!
Misfits with and after Danzig and then Danzig himself are the most unappreciated musical geniuses of ALL time
Not do much at directing though lol
nah ... he is talented but Rick Rubin is responsible for Danzig and their sound.. Rick is the unappreciated musical geniuses of all time. Their will NEVER be another Rick Rubin.
@@rogerbing5314 Excellent materials to work with are still excellent materials. Both deserve credit.
@@rogerbing5314 Nah?
What is that based on?
Rubin IS a genius but Danzig is the throughline for ALL of the best period of the band 77 to 83.
It's his baby.
Danzig sounds like the Misfits because he IS the Misfits.
They had about 10 line-up changes between 77 and 83, yet they always sounded like the Misfits.
Why?
Glenn Danzig.
"Nah."
Seriously mate, fuck off.
I get the same expression on my face when I rock to them lol
Now do Skulls and 20 Eyes!
The thing you have to understand about Danzig and especially the Misfits is that for the most part the lyrics are just macabre poems. Then you put those poems to some driving rhythms and you get "horror punk"
As I sit here with my Misfits t shirt and Misfits tat, thanks for doing this, especially these songs they are bangers! You really can't go wrong with anything from The Misfits, Danzig or Graves era's
How about the Jerry and also balding Jerry Jr. era?
I wonder how Jerry Jr. thinks these days since he's been essentially tossed out in favor of the Danzig shows? He probably thought he was inheriting the whole thing.
Just listen to the album Walk Among Us. It's just super catchy hit after super catchy hit. Lots of "woaaahhhhh woahhhhh" backing vocals. Perfect
Misfits are the "Star Wars" of punk. Walk Among Us is full of those "Doubled-over" vocal dubs with Glenn growling and yelling in the background. Absolute classic.
Check out: Horror Business, Some Kinda Hate, Vampira, really it's hard to go wrong.
Love early Misfits, (Graves era is ok too), and the Walk Among Us LP is flawless.
i love early misfits
Graves era isn’t the Misfits cmon. No Glenn no nothing.
I think Graves Misfits is great and underrated. Different band but still worthy of the title of Misfits.
I had the same reaction back in 86 when I heard this song and all of Misfits music!!
Exactly how i feel. Danzig was the Misfits, but Graves is a respectable vocalist.
Jerrys a douchebag that called the band a "money boat"
omg so happy to see the Misfits here, they are my favorites! Please do Die Die My Darling, Skulls, Last Caress, Green Hell, London Dungeon (There are so many songs!) Please do more songs
Hell yeah, man! They changed me in 5th grade and I still rock them. Glad you enjoyed!
Oh, gotta love Horror Punk. They were a great band. Saw them a couple years ago in Chicago. Great show.
When its punk, all that matters its the melody, thats why i love punk, straight to the root
Glenn Danzig made Horror Punk style song before even first wave of punk arrived... 3/4 before Punk and Misfits. He made songs for Johnny Cash, today skeleton clothing is made by him... Even some words we use today made by him. He is genius!
Gotta say I really enjoyed your reactions to Danzig and iconic tracks from The Misfits. You speak about music just like me!!!! Danzig is SOOO underated as a singer. I thought that 30 years ago!!! Best vocals...soulfull for sure!!! Thanks man.
The misfits are an all around great band, legends
Btw when asked about what 138 means, danzig said "I don't know, but it is evil"
We are one dirty ape in the eyes of the tiger
I always thought him and Jerry said it was about being robotic. Showing no emotion when killing
@@Pfletch83 it's possible, they could have said it later on but from the results I've seen at least they were ambiguous at first about what it was.
@inkoinfinity2 138 was based off the first movie by George Lucas's first film THX-1138. The song will make sense after watching just the trailer.
@@JosephWalker-g1o ah ok thanks
For sure one if not the best bands out there I'll always hold a big heart for them.
Just found your channel. It’s awesome seeing someone genuinely enjoying music and appreciating the diverse range of genres out there...keep up the good stuff my man.
Give "I Turned Into A Martian" a try. My favorite song ever written by any band. Period.
Same here man!
It's awesome that you're exploring Misfits/Danzig! If it's not your thing, it's really easy to dismiss it but it's fantastic music. Thanks for bringing it to more folks.
It's wholesome and comforting,
like a happy Christmas card from Mr. Rogers.
Great tracks to start with. One of the bands that changed my life
I recommended Hollywood Babylon, Hybrid Moments, she, horror business and skulls to hit next
Also, to be clear, he suggested a great 3 songs to start with so he definitely has great taste.
Yeah you hit the nail on the head with audience participation. I think the most common word in the Misfits lyrics is "whooooah"
The Misfits are amazing, and i had the chance to support them once down here in Australia. Please do more, Return of the Fly
“Don’t make music to technical”, “Short and sweet”. You just defined punk music
I will recommend you listen Glen's to post Misfits band "Samhain". Albums are: Initium, Unholy Passion, November Coming Fire and Final Descent. Notable songs are: the shift, the howl, he who cannot be named, unholy passion, i am misery, mother of mercy, birthright, death in its arms, descent and lords of the left hand.
Couldn't click on fast enough! The Misfits are one of THE greatest punk bands ever (Glenn Danzig era).
I found your video on accident. I was listening to The Misfits, and I saw your video. I was like "what's this, and who is this guy". You seem like a cool dude though, and I agree with you on your takes on the music. So rock on man, keep it up.
I'm impressed; those are three good recommendations the person gave you for Misfits songs.
There's a really powerful Glenn Danzig song that is kind of obscure. It was on the Less Than Zero movie-soundtrack. It was at a period after Samhain, but before the band, Danzig.
The song is called You and Me, Less Than Zero.
I have loved the Misfits since 1996 haven't looked back.Seen Jerry only was lead singer, in Erie PA 2005 i think and went to Chicago in 2016 to see Glenn and the crew and it was fucking awesome
Nice. Real Misfits.
Hearing All Hell Breaks Loose while playing Back 4 Blood running around shooting hordes of zombies is a special kinda vibe 💥🐢💥
Firstly, i love when brother's listen and dig punk rock. Not assuming that you are a Rap fan, but i have been since the birth of both genres. Punk and Rap are together on so many levels. Both brought to you by the youth of streets. Anti authority, anti corporate, and against the grain.
Ps everything off the album "Plan 9", by the Misfits is gold. London Dungeon, and Die Die My Darling are a couple of my favorite songs by the Misfits. Both of which can be found on the Plan 9 album.
When I was younger I only accepted the Misfits/Danzig era (favorite song-Skulls) but recently I discovered the Misfits/ Graves era (favorite song- Dig Up Her Bones) and I have to say, being more open minded now, I liked it quite a lot.
Thats a good one, as well as 'Crying on Saturday Night'
@@theriomrasputin8233 Yes, There are so many good songs from that era that I had no idea about. The thing was, I had a bunch of Danzig/Misfits queued up and Dig Up Her Bones popped up and something about it made have to hear more then I went down that rabbit hole until I heard it all but the first one really hooked me an reeled me in.
Yeah I really enjoy the Graves era too
I had zero interest in post-Danzig Misfits until I picked up American Psycho on a lark several years after its release. I just couldn’t not like that album.
Graves Misfits is criminally underrated. Different band but worthy of the Misfits title.
Speak of the Devil
This Island Earth
America Psycho
Forbidden Zone
Crawling Eye
Scream
Descending Angel
Helena
Tons of terrific songs
my favorite band of all time..GOAT status
I'm a fiend as well... which is better Danzig or Graves era? And we all know the Only era blows 😂
Loved the opening of your reaction... Love Misfits... peace!!!
The song 'We Are 138' by the Misfits is about when Danzig was a kid him and his friends had secret code words.
One was "138". Which meant " Kill without thinking twice".
Hahaha is it? I've always thought it was about the creepy android movie that Lucas made THX138. But I could be incorrect, regardless great song.
where the hell do you know that from?
@@19eightyforeisnow Bobby Steele and Jerry Only have stated that it is about the film, but Danzig has said this in an interview in 2000: "They didn't write it, and they don't know what the fuck it's about. It's about violence."
@@GrumpyGrndad this is correct. not even the "sources close to" tales of a number on a patch meant shit to Glenn. Who knows. He sort of said fuck origin stories, the song is should not be packaged with them.
I thought 138 meant dead on arrival
On a Misfits Boxset I had that came out in the late 90's, There is a song i woyld live you to react to called American Nightmare. You tell me who Glen sounds like in THAT song! Hehe
More horror punk
Samhain ( danzigs band after the misfits ) - archangel
Tiger army - last night
The Howl, The Shift, To Walk The Night, Black Dream... so many good ones
London dungeon skulls halloween great songs
It amazes me that you pick up on so much of what makes punk so desirable to some. Being a fan of punk rock is a lifestyle not just a music choice and you seem to get that from hearing a few classic songs.
Listening to this music is like jumping into a time machine. I love hearing the thoughts and perspectives of these artist. It shows what was going on during the times. I can really see why so many choose to get involved with the punk lifestyle.
What amazes me the most is how society has judged punkers for being "delinquents" when they are some of the most thought provoking artist in the industry. I guess maybe thats why there was an agenda to destroy and sanitize it.
@@TheAdventuresofTNT independent thinking has and always will be demonized. Get in line, OR ELSE!!!
Yeah baby!!!! Hybrid Moments, Attitude, Last Caress, Green Hell, Astrozombies, I Turned Into A Martian, Horror Business, London Dungeon etc etc. You've already made 3 excellent picks 🥰
Misfits just GO SO DAMN HARD!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
SOD...The Ballad Of Jimi Hendrix, Diamonds and Rust, The Anti-Procrastination Song, and What's That Noise.
Really dude? 😆 that's kind of hilarious, actually.
How about chromatic death or milano mosh after the 12 seconds of music in your suggestion. 😄
I also have heard the THX 1138 theory as well. Like how many licks does it take to get the the center of a Tootsie Pop. The world may never know.
When I stop and think about it.......I can't think of one bad Misfits jam.
Yesss you want to participate when it comes to Misfits! I love it so much. Nothing gets me as hype.
Now imagine growing up like this. Punk rockers are your friend, we just have a different energy than what people were used to
Also, never pet a dog you don't know.
@@jamesalexander1383 sound advice my friend also don’t eat yellow snow
Huge influence for many of the 80s metal bands you been listening to.
Danzing ain't talking no waxxine! Lmao
We are 138 is one of my favorites.
I see a lot of Danzig's lyrics being just about imagery or theatrics, not very literal.
"in the eyes of tiger" ... "it's time to be an android not a man" ... "stripped of all we were"
A bunch of people made into a single entity called 138 by the master named tiger. LOL.
I dunno but that's where my mind goes, and I love the worlds Danzig creates for my imagination with just a few lines.
They're always going for the horror or sci-fi imagery, or 60s TV culture.
I also suspect Danzig was highly influenced by the Doors & Jim Morrison.
I could never get into the Misfits post-Danzig because it was missing these elements.
Yes - in a small club, everyone into it was always the best way to see a band. Only 1 huge show was ever better - and those huge out-door stadium/pavilion shows - never much fun.
Where “ the” eagles dare. Adorable ☺️
Glenn Danzig walks above all. LOL, dude is like 5'4"
DANZIG!!!!!!!
With heels, but big voice!
Love all the stuff they did. My favorite is Earth AD/Wolfs blood. It’s the hardest music they 11:26 did. Give it a listen.
You are definitely adding some punk! Misfits definitely in the punk classic class. May have to dig out some other punk for you
138 is an ohmage to THX-1138, George Lucas's first movie. Great band, listen to some of Danzigs later songs, like his other band called Samhain, and his solo stuff.
As far as where "138" came from, I've heard a few explanations, nothing concrete. It may be in reference to the film "THX 1138", as it shares theme with the song (being stripped of your personality; emotionless society). And Danzig apparently had a self-made button way back when of one the android cops with "138" on the helmet.
THX-1138 is a movie. A lot of Misfits songs were based off of Horror and B-Side movies.
I’ve looked for Greg significance of 138 and found an early interview with Glenn. All he said was it’s about violence lol
In police code, "138" stands for Drunk and Disorderly :)
I’m big on lyrics myself so even though I really love metal and punk, it’s hard for me to get into songs that I can’t understand the vocals for
My favorite Misfits album Walk Among Us 💕
I got bit by the Misfits bug recently.... both Danzig and Graves Era's are different but equally Great... My Personal Favs We are 138, Bullet, Descending Angel, Dig up her Bones etc.
Great video! I'd LOVE to see you react to Pig in a Blanket by Rudimentary Peni! It would also be interesting to hear what you think of Bloodfeast by The Misfits because it's so different from their earlier work.
Danzig era Misfits is really 3 different misfits, listen to their 1st release cough cool, before they had guitarist. 77-78(static age era) then you have the catchy more vocal developed Danzig 79-82 (horror business / walk amount us era)then you have the finally form heavy, more brute songs, fast pace on the fence of hardcore late 82-83 ( earth a.d/ wolfs blood era) all are crucial and symbiotic of each other
Still One Of My Top 3 Bands
Check out Skulls, Angelfuck, Horror Business... Lyrics, Bro $6 years, no idea what 138 means, but the song kicks ass
I love we are 138.
I was at that Chi Town show. I've been listening to them since the 6th grade and I'm getting close to 50 don't bother with the math. I still crank em' up
They were into Sci-Fi...We Are 138...George Lucas had a film named THX-138....
Something I hadn't thought of years ago.. Misfits sound very identical to The Damned in a lot of their songs. Wouldn't surprise me if Glen Danzig was a fan.
Yes, he actually wrote the song Archangel from his second band for the lead singer of The Damned. Check out Samhain- Archangel if you haven’t
@@balladofthebroken7569 No kidding! That's a crazy coincidence! I'll check it out, thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!
Brand new subscriber here - I did that because you did this 🤪 I love the Misfits 👍😀
Generally speaking, punk prior to the 90's was like that. Short, sweet, simple, non-technical & not too deep. It just got the point across and then went on to something else. Punk has been around since the late 60's and didn't get poppy and commercial until bands like green day, sum 41...etc. They didn't used to be career musicians, so to speak, however it did start to drift a little more towards the mainstream realm in the 80's with bands like the clash, or other rockers who had punk elements like Joan Jett. (Whom I love!)
I've never really been much a punk fan, but I respect it for what it is.
This was fun! Great video.
Fantastic horror punk band 🕷☠️🤘🖤😎💀🎼🦇⚰️🎸
138 is a robot from an old sci fi flick.
A very old flim
Introduction to The Misfits:
"Oh, they are sweet! ❤"
Honestly never heard someone saying they are sweet and fun 😁🤘🏻
Put "Skulls" and "Last Caress" to the next watch list, those are my personal favourite songs from them. Lyrics are really sweet and lots of fun, I promise 🤞🏻
Fucking LOVE this band. Songs are short, sweet, to the point and hit hard. Would love to see you react to Misfits - ASTRO Zombies. Such a great track. Keep doing what you do 👍
Hybrid Moments!
Bloodfeast!
Helena is a great heavy as fuck song.. Hybrid Moments is a classic. Bullet, one of their best
Just the bollocks. Fantastic
YES WHERE EAGLES DARE!
138 is about the movie THX1138 . An old movie about everyone being automatons, Androids. More misfits please! Any Danzig era Misfits will do. Nothing after Glenn though.
best song from misfits in my opinion
There's an old horror film about killer cops or zombie cops or something like that and the only way you can tell if they we're the bad guys is that their badge number's were 138
Imo, 138 is about Android assimilation.. loosing your self identity and becoming a hive " stripped of all we're worth, is it time to be an Android or a man?" Close to the movie THX1138
Friend gave me an MP3 cd with the complete coffin box set in high school. Put it in my cd player and it stayed there for over a year. All I listened to
You def need to get yourself to a punk or hardcore show. I promise you, you will have a blast!
"Hell breaks loose" perfect for a skateboard part or surfing part video!
Old punks never die, we just stand in the back. Do some Black Flag too
Them "whoas" man
Walk Among Us is one of the best true punk albums of all time. EVERY SINGLE TRACK. Start to finish, it rocks. The Misfits are legends. The Graves era is more metal but still had some good tracks as well.
Old fact.... 138 police code for public disruption
You get it. Open minded. "We are 138" is influenced by the dystopian Sci fi horror classic film "THX 1138", about an underground dictatorship with robot enforcers. But the Misfits song seems to suggest transitioning from human to cyborg. No more sentimentality or human "weakness". Like the Borg from 'Star Trek: the Next Generaton". People think singer Glenn shortened 1138 to 138 to sing it more easily.
Btw: the Germs were a very influential hardcore/punk band; would you consider reviewing their awesome songs? Like "Manimal" & "Lexicon Devil" (the GI version), &"No God", & "Media blitz" & "We must bleed". Darby Crash (r.i.p.) was one of the most incredible lyricists. Guitarist Pat Smear later joined Nirvana, now he plays in Foo Fighters. Drummer Don Bolles now plays in Greta Van Fleet.
You are doing a great job. Peace,✌🏽.
I saw Danzig a few times but one show stands out above them all. He came out for the encore and he brought out Doyle the guitarist for The Misfits and did a 45 minute Misfits set. The place went fucking Ape-Shit. Like I've been to Slayer shows, been caught in the middle of walls of death at Exodus shows and stuff but seeing half of the Misfits on stage doing their thing was the only show I ever saw where I felt horrible for the bouncers. They were NOT prepared for that level of mayhem and were so overwhelmed I'm still shocked they did quit their jobs on the spot. Great and very memorable show but holy shit did people lose their minds hearing this in person.
