Are the hues that naturally appear as a result of colours from the palette mixing on the canvas allowed to stay? or should I avoid mixing and just keep to the pure hues? Like if I had a diad scheme with blue and pink, those colours mixed would make purple which goes against the scheme, is that ok?
This bunch of schemes actually helped me way more than just knowing the basic ones! It always felt like "these works for desing, but almost all pieces have way more stuff so Idk... I might just be stupid"
"it's not just about the colors you choose, it's how you use them" Really golden advice here. It's real easy to get bogged down in what you pick that you just forget the idea of diving in and using the colors. As someone with some mild choice paralysis from time to time, it's real comforting to hear this. Thanks Marc!
there’s no exaggeration here: your videos are LITERALLY a gold mine. i’ve struggled to find good art tutorials out there but when I stumbled upon your channel months ago, I knew I found the right one for me. Sadly, i cant join the premium art class, but im paying my fees for every video I watch. that’s how grateful i am for this channel.
7:05 this is so helpful! Sometimes when i imagine a character it's hard to picture what colors to use apart from the main one, so this tip is gold! Thanks :)
"It'll only be available until the end of the month" or until there's another 1000 students, yeah? Its been a really great course so far. I got it in early march.
I always struggle with colours that leaves me going for Greyscales. which is a double edged sword that I learn more on the Lighting and values but not in colours. this really helps!
As helpful as ever. I've always wanted to blend and compliment colors but tends to forget some of the good ones in the last stretch of the drawing when coloring is the last thing to do. I appreciate it. Great class as always.
The way you explain colour harmonies is very clear and concise, thanks Marc! I think I ought to try using colour harmonies more, as I generally base my colours off palettes from images I like.
YESSSSS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS CLASS!!! The moment I saw this I have been checking my notifications to make sure I get to it quick!! Oh class is starting, paid the fees teach letsgetitttt!!!
I started digital art last year and I watched many tutorials before. But since I came across your channel I really felt like I'm improving. Thank you so much!
Thank you for specifically diving into what schemes are good for what. Also the last one was great at expanding how to use multiple colors with purpose. While it is great to work in the confinements of color schemes, knowing how to use multiple colors like in a poly feels just needed.
Ooooh. I’m not normally troubled by colors but this is useful regardless. Time to get out the paints and play while I watch. Edit: this was entertaining. I’ll use this for painting color ideas now
Thank you the best part of the video was the examples of your art you gave us it was actually a lot more helpful than other videos of color theory I watched.
This is so good Marc! Thank you! Question, how do you go about choosing color harmony when you have several things to look at in your piece? I am working on one with a VW Van (focal point) that’s tan, the Disneyland sign and castle, Old Faithful and any Rushmore in the background. And if anybody else that knows wants to answer, my ears and eyes are open!
hey! not marc (obviously lol) but at around 09:12 he says that the rectangular tetrad is good for multiple competing visual elements, so that migh be the one
This was extremely helpful. It was less of a this is what you do and this is what you don’t do type of class. and more of a this is what happens when you do this and that is what happens when you do that. I appreciate that.
Yep, about color you really need to put you mind into it and learn. And funny enough I'm doing a plate drawing right now! My goal is draw 3 character in one theme with 3 diffierent plate, and I have to admit it, It's sutpidly hard, and even harder than I thought, I really need limit break to finish it. Thanks always!
This is incredibly solid. I like the way you complimented each harmony description with showcases from your art, it really sells the theory. I'll be saving this one for reference. Thank you so much.
Thanks for this Marc. I'm gonna watch your video on values next since that's apparently more important than colour theory. I love your channel and your videos so much. You're such a great teacher, and your oddness just makes your videos all the more special lol
Not to shill anybody else's product, but I've been using paletton (or other similar websites) for years when coming up with color schemes, or when people ask me how to improve theirs; might be a good tool for y'all who want to see a practical example of the palette you chose before diving in. Split complementary and triad are probably my most used for off-the-cuff character designs, basically using a "diad" for the character itself and then the third color for accents or accessories, pretty foolproof if you can't think of what to do 👍
A very subtle way to introduce color theory IJS. The DIAD, TRIAD, Double Complementary, RECTANGULAR TETRAD, SQUARE TETRAD and POLYCHROMATIC are terms and color arrangements I have not heard of or some of these when I learned color theory ages ago were called something different. Color video to use for reference when designing characters.
I thought I knew a lot about color and had color theory pretty much down pat (particularly modern color theory; judging by your color wheel you seem to be going with traditional color theory, which is unusual for a digital artist I think; any particular reason you chose that?), but I'd never heard of some of the more complex schemes. What do you think of color spaces instead of color schemes? Where you select points on the wheel and then connect them and use only the colors within the resulting shape (or shapeS if you're getting fancy) rather than using the entire range of each of a few distinct hues?
This is amazing! Thank you so much for the material and also the brushes! BTW, is there any way to get sheets with the different kind of color schemes? and at what price?
Your colors better be harmonious from now on or we're gonna have to get your parents involved. Also, free brushes
What were you doing in Ethan's studio '-'
Are the hues that naturally appear as a result of colours from the palette mixing on the canvas allowed to stay? or should I avoid mixing and just keep to the pure hues? Like if I had a diad scheme with blue and pink, those colours mixed would make purple which goes against the scheme, is that ok?
mono-red with a turkiese pantsu ? ;P
Nice vid bro =)
@@ryant9366 think of it as an overall effect, you can mix in any color in small quantities as long as it doesn't disturb the overall harmony
This bunch of schemes actually helped me way more than just knowing the basic ones! It always felt like "these works for desing, but almost all pieces have way more stuff so Idk... I might just be stupid"

Your timing is impeccable. Everytime I need to learn something you're always right there.

"The more colors you use, the more important the hierarchy becomes." is probably the single most important thing anyone should take from this video.
7:05 this is so helpful! Sometimes when i imagine a character it's hard to picture what colors to use apart from the main one, so this tip is gold! Thanks :)
FINALLY SOME ADVANCED COLOUR THEORY FOR FREE! THANK YOU MARK
Just as I searched for color theory, what a save!

"It'll only be available until the end of the month" or until there's another 1000 students, yeah?
Its been a really great course so far. I got it in early march.
Marc looks like he's drunk while doing these videos. I love it!
That last one was insane! I also like that you hid a dog in the picture.
Best explanation on how to actually *use* colors Ive ever seen.

7:33 years of coloring superheroes as a kid, and not once did I realize the color triad!
Sir you have now got me fascinated with color theory. It is like psychology.
This Marc fella is pretty good! He could work for Blizzard! 😬
The way you explain colour harmonies is very clear and concise, thanks Marc! I think I ought to try using colour harmonies more, as I generally base my colours off palettes from images I like.

Tbh i just figured you can use any variations of hues aslong as you can get the amount and values aswell as contrast in the design it looks good.
Just as I am about to color my drawing, this vid pops up. Amazing timing.
Sweet! I reaaaaally like your free content!
Growing up you were one of my biggest inspiration when it came to art
I started digital art last year and I watched many tutorials before. But since I came across your channel I really felt like I'm improving. Thank you so much!

Gonna take a while to wrap my head around some of those concepts.
Just when I needed it! 🤓

Am I trippin or did Marc forget to tell us to pay our class fee? I still paid, it’s a habit at this point to like Marc’s video b4 it even starts
This was extremely helpful. It was less of a this is what you do and this is what you don’t do type of class. and more of a this is what happens when you do this and that is what happens when you do that. I appreciate that.
Very helpful, I never knew how to use the ones with more than 3 colors but your examples were very good
Tysm marc you literally always come out with a new video at the exact moment when I need it
Thanks, Marc for introducing me 10 Color Schemes. And great tips too🙂
Thank you for the video! This is also very helpful for someone like me who is into airbrushing model kits and stuff.

Can't be more perfect timing, I was working in my colors of my current illustration. Love ya!

Procreate has the color wheel settings that help with color theory too. Very helpful
Thanks Marc!

Ohh coo! I suck at designing characters, but this should be helpful.
*cool* can’t type
Teacher, you're the best. thanku!
