This is a book that will stick with you forever. I'm rereading it for the umpteeth time. It never gets old.
Just finished Cat’s Eye. Loved it. Great review and explanations. There are a lot of threads I missed that you found.
i love cats this sounds like a very happy and upbeat and not at all sad book can't wait to read it :)
Love your review!
This is a book that I’ve read quite a few times and always find things I missed the next time. It’s also quite upsetting to hear about the bullying. I’m not sure if it’s because I was bullied as a child, or whether it affects anyone the same. It’s such an empowering part of the novel where Elaine realises that she is giving her bullies all the power and that she can not only walk away but also get new friends and claim back her agency. It’s also clear in the book that Elaine’s realises that people like her - her ‘friends’ are twisted in their opinions! Though of course, the bullying is Cordelia projecting.I keep struggling with different interpretations of the socioeconomic backgrounds of the girls. Elaine’s family can’t be poor, surely? I get the impression that her family are like academics who just don’t see the point in buying things to look good. Perhaps I’m wrong. I see some people thinking that Graces family are well off and some thinking that they are poor because of references to the catalogue clothing? Cordelia’s family clearly are well off as she steals as a hobby even though she can afford stuff.
