- The Xbox 360 Marketplace shuts down on July 29th 2024. Around two weeks before this happens I decided to fulfill something I was always curious about. What all the free theme & gamer pics are & the process of obtaining them. Decided to share this late 2000s early 2010s experience & results.
Dont think it was mentioned but this does not include any "free" items locked behind Xbox Live Gold.

I made an archive of the themes to use for Xbox 360 on dropbox, based on feedback they may not be able to work on other consoles (not 100% sure). Not sure if anyone with more knowledge would know how to fix any issues.

Thats unfortunate. Assuming instructions from readme were followed I have no idea what the issue may be. Maybe someone with more knowledge will stumble upon this or make an easy to find guide to troubleshoot so everyone can get these to work. Sorry i cant be of more help, honestly just not super knowledgable of how these things work.
@@thesupersmashworld you're good. I followed the instructions in the readme file before doing anything. I copied over the themes to my xbox and the themes are there but when I select them, it does not display the theme. It just goes to the default white background. The only themes that do show are the ones that I already had on my harddrive that I got for free.
Can’t save the individual images on my phone unless they are in PNGs.
Lmao some of those themes are hilarious. I wonder how many people unironically chose something like the chrysler 200 theme as a backround.
Thats something i found really interesting. Surprised most car makes went with everyday car backgrounds instead of something fancier/sportier. Feel like the latter would have been used significantly more & probably done a better job getting the brand in peoples eyes imo.
The food ones are stupid as fuck lol
i always thought it was cool companies made free backgrounds for the 360.
especially when they did those avatar animations or costumes collabs.
man just signing up for legit every promo to get a avatar item was so cool.
As a kid I loved when car manufactures came out with gamer pics and themes, I always had them even when they were ridiculous vehicles like the 200.
One of the coolest ones is the Guinness Book of World Records one. It's the only one that has Pikachu, Mario and Link on it.
I believe i used a German account to get it. And it's free.

I've been searching for months, I keep going back, and I can never find the original Halo 3 Game Fuel theme and gamerpics :(
Know a couple other commenters also mentioned not being able to find specific themes. Not sure if there were any early delisting or possible region exclusives. Seen some people online also mention certain items have been missing then reappeared (some sort of glitch i guess). Only thing i can think to add is normally the theme names are close to the store name so it may be under just Game Fuel.

Thankfully for the Wii U/3DS, Nuspli and the H-Shop exists, though a couple of things aren't on there.
@@2fernandoc1 I know right, I’m really glad nintendos community is able to provide that level of archival, hope the 360 community does a lot of archiving, defintely would be a good idea to mod your console and dump all the stuff you got to a USB
@@scarface43Gaming I'm pretty sure the Xbox 360 (and PS3 for that matter)'s contents and DLC, wallpapers, themes, etc. are probably going to be archived pretty well (these systems released in 2005-06 and sold 85 million units each whereas the the 3DS and Wii U released in 2011-12, had their online infrastructures shut down much sooner (Nintendo TVii, Miiverse, eShop, and general online play) and sold 75 and 13 million units respectively, so there's a bigger install base willing to preserve the Xbox 360/PS3 that has had more time to do so).
I was doing the same thing and found some themes like a Wendy’s one I feel in love with!

Wasnt sure it would be able to work on other consoles with just the files straight from the 360 but looks like it might based on a little research & testing I did. Have a dropbox link for the themes & a website I found that already has most, if not all gamer pics (paid & free) already archived.

2 weeks until shutdown xbox 360 marketplace
This is exactly what i wanted to do yesterday but they decided to close up the store early n i missed out on downloading all the themes smh
Yeah was unfortunate to see store close midday instead of midnight. Hell i dont understand why they wouldnt keep it up as long as they were making decent sales with the extra attention even if it goes an extra day or so. Seems like easy money & good pr to me but what do i know.
@thesupersmashworld supposedly they were suppose to close it at 5pm pacific time which would've been 8pm for me since I'm on the east coast... that would've been perfect time for to just go in there and get all those themes... im trying to see if there a work around that I can find to see if I can go in there and get all those themes since it free

Unfortunately, I can't find most of those themes like the Chevrolet ones and many more since they're region-locked. I also noticed you don't have any of the Canada ones that are also region-locked that I can find.
Thanks for pointing this out, probably should have mentioned these would have been from the US region. Know a few other commenters also werent finding certain themes. Wasnt expecting so many region exclusives especially between our regions that are grouped together under NTSC for a lot of content.
im like 70% certain you didn't need to download all of these before the store closes. I got the halo reach demo that's been of sale for years by downloading it on my computer and transferring it to a usb. but I might be wrong
Im leaning towards that being correct as well. Did a test & got a random custom theme to work (no mods or anything). Did set up an archive on dropbox as suggested by another commenter as the themes in particular may not have been publicly archived yet (i couldnt find them on a basic web search). Am still not 100% sure they work for other consoles/users but think it is likely.

What is the Halo 3Game Fuel Theme called through the theme marketplace? REALLY want this one.

On the latest dashboard update you can get it through the Games tab, then browse games, & finally their should be a Theme category. Sorting by title would probably be easiest, can get around quicker by holding rb but luckily you wont have far to go super far to get to themes starting with a.

Should still be on the Xbox 360 Marketplace for free. On the latest dashboard update you get there through the Games tab, then browse games, & finally their should be a Gamer Pics category. Sorting by title would probably be easiest, then hold rb until you are around h.
Gamer pics (free & paid) are all also archived at xboxgamer.pics/ .
@@thesupersmashworld I did what you said and I can’t find it still I’m wondering if I have to buy a certain version of the movie or something or they got rid of it from the Xbox live market place I’ve been trying for a week to find this picture pack like searching up everything on how to get it and I haven’t gotten a clear answer but it’s not that big of a deal it’s just it would be funny to log into my Xbox 360 one day and look at my gamer pics and see stu with his tooth missing

If i remember correctly unfortunately themes dont appear when you do a search in the store. You need to manually find them. On the latest dashboard update you can get themes through the Games tab, then browse games, & finally their should be a Theme category. Sorting by title would probably be easiest, can get around quicker by holding rb until you reach the letter you want.

I meant browse games from the games tab on the home menu. After that you should default to the featured tab & they should both be right on that page (2nd row of tiles towards center).

Idk, know another commenter had similar problems looking for the hangover gamepics. All i can think of is if some content got delisted earlier or isnt available in certain regions.

Not sure what yourre asking, the themes & gamerpics are still on the Xbox 360 Marketplace through a console or through their website ( marketplace.xbox.com/en-NZ/Games/ThemesAndGamerPic ) however this will be taken down on July 29th. The pinned comment also has links to archives of said content.

Got it, yeah you should still be able to access the 360 Marketplace on consoles for about 1 more week.

I want to try to overhaul the archive (probably next week) so individual themes can easily be found if anyone doesnt want everything. Will add a pinned comment for updates on that & so this info is easier to find.
