I still had my comics as a kid but only 20+ because of a flood.. I started with 50$, as I started working comic cons and now I'm over 100,000 books, golden, silver, copper, modern, complete runs of so many issues but recently, I've focused on buying the keyz to everything instead of owning the run
You took on a tough challenge with $100 to start a multi-book collection. Nice vid. Like to see you do a 10 book for $1K, a more realistic starting point.
Always my favorite comic book Tuber. I think you could do a little miniseries on this topic. What ten books for $200? $500? Etc. Also you could do a video where you pick the best book at different price points. $10, $25, $50, $100….etc etc.
I’m officially back in the game!!! Time to rebuild....started out with an x-factor 6. Can’t afford a she hulk 1 right now so I actually picked up 2 copies of she hulk 2 . If you can’t afford the first appearance, can’t go wrong with a second appearance. And I joined the “Spec” game by picking up New Avengers Illuminati 1/5 for $1!!! Thanks for your guidance......life is fun again with comics!!
I need you to do this as a mini series or a refresh version of this video. Also would love to see you show some of those 50-100 dollar picks that you mentioned.
I like the concept of a $100 threshold to start your collection, however I would have focused on someone spending near the entire $100 in one shot to present as the centerpiece of a collection on a budget. For example I’m looking at a low grade Fantastic Four 26 for $99. For someone on a budget that’s a nice way to begin a collection.
This is a great video and I would very much like a series like this. As a new collector I want thank for sharing your knowledge. I probably wouldnt have found some of these cool books on my own.
I had my x-men 11 sent to CGC for Jim Lee's signature series. I can't wait to get it back. Probably going to be years before I sell it, if I ever do. I want it as a display piece
I’m Glad spider Gwen is Getting popular I’m proud to own a two copies of her first appearance I bought for $4 each unbagged and bordered I took it home put it in a bag and board and waited a while then submitted it to PGX without pressing it came back to me at a 9.4
This was great - some of these have definitely appreciated well beyond the prices listed a year ago. Would be nice to see a 2023 video with what you'd recommend today for $100.
Cool video idea, you should do more of this but maybe for specific characters. But as someone who just started buying comics the last thing I care about is making sure my collection is "respected" by other nerds. Getting what I like is more fun atm
For sure, definitely just buy what you like. I guess I just meant "respected" as in the books will keep some kind of floor in terms of value. I have a series called "key comic spotlight" which is kinda like what you're suggesting for character specific videos
Venom lethal Protector 1, spidey 2099 1 asm375 punisher war journal 1, I think go with the list you have as additional books with the same price range and significance
Love this idea! Some really great picks here, a few that I already have and a few that have always been on my list. I'd love to see a 1 or 2 book startup collection idea as well. Thanks!
Always collect what you love and don't do it to please or earn anyone's acceptance but only your own. Collecting is personal and do it to make you happy.. Web of Spider-Man #1 is a great book 👍
Great stuff! When I started collecting comics back in May, I had X-men near the top of my list. I was able to get all of those first editions in high grade from my LCS and online. They definitely are great staples to start with! 🙂
Swaggle I love you but WTF?!?!? Noooo Batman?!?!?!? My replacement pick (as new(ish) collector) Frank Miller Year 1 part 4 -it’s sub $10- I’m sure there’s more and even better Batman picks though Bottom line. The holy trinity of new collecting should be Spider man, wolverine, Batman. You nailed two 😊
I would do what I tell a lot of people, go to a shop and try and find books in a $1 bin that you can find most of the issues or sets and start there. Grab some new books off the wall.
A shop near me (no, I'm not telling anyone where) has a whole long box of those X-Men #1 for a buck each. I've already bought a dozen or so but may go back soon for a bunch more. They'll never be huge expensive keys, but once X-Men join the MCU, I feel those will jump up nicely in price.
Here's an outside-the-box option for Marvel fans who want an early '60s "origin issue" for a heroic character that can be purchased for $100 in decent condition -- it's Gunsmoke Western 72, with the cover story, "How Kid Colt Became an Outlaw!" This comic is still affordable, whereas the other two Marvel Western hero reboot keys (Rawhide Kid 17, Two-Gun Kid 60) are already in the hundreds/thousands range for a nice copy. (Caveat -- those comics have Jack Kirby covers and interior art, whereas Gunsmoke Western 72 only has a Kirby cover.)
$100 I’m liking: Web of Spider-Man 1, Spider-Gwen 1, and possibly X-men #11 (I don’t personally see the the ‘classic’ behind it and the comic community has dubbed it ‘classic’ for no apparent reason) for real investment. The others are your personal choices, and very difficult to choose I know! Nice job.
I already have half of those, so I don't feel bad. I'm surprised I don't already have the ASM issue, but I'm missing 344-347. Need to correct that soon. I know this one wasn't in the list, but I picked up a VF copy of Dazzler #1 for $6 at a card/comic convention last weekend. I've seen it mostly for $25 to $35 recently.
Here's another interesting way to slice this - if you were going to start your collection with a run of any 20 issues from any title, what would you go with (let's forbid choices like ASM #1-20, and low-hanging fruit like that). For me, I think I would go with Uncanny X-Men 125-145.
I'm sure there are better if i looked into it more but the mcfarlane asm run 298-318 is pretty solid and not hard to find high grade if you're willing to lay out the $
If I didn't own any comics, and had $100.. i'd go to the 50c bin and buy 200 comics and have a great time reading then. Any other answer is prioritizing collecting over reading.
Good list. Is it only Marvel on purpose? I'd want an indy superhero. Either Spawn #1 (important key, but high print run) or Grimjack #1 (great cover/story and Russo brothers want to make a movie). Then for round 2, I'd buy a $100 Batman comic. Not sure which one.
I have every 92 run of xen and every xmen adventures book from 1,2 to 3 (have 100,000 comics and ive out them away a long time ago so i believe adventures and 3 runs.. i luckily have every web of spiderman, so imma have to start doing a deep dive in my collection
Two issues right off! First comics as investments and second a collection to impress others. Just buy what characters and stories you enjoy and can afford you should be buying and collecting for an audience of one! Yourself! Not bc it may group in value or to impress people on the internet you may never meeting real life!
I really liked this video because I see a lot of collectors and comics and I do not know where to start. Thanks! I always wonder if you read comic or just collect? Or collect and only read the comics you really like?
No 1st bullseye? Ive bulk collected because some people seem to forget, bullseye is the only villain, thats known, he can go toe to toe with.. oh and i have a stack of 1st ROGUE! bought them up, when sony or whatever, screwed up rogue and made her books dirt cheap. A couple are signed by stan lee but ill get them full. Shyt i have the whole x factor run as well and a buddy of mine i work comic cons with, he said they WILL be doing an xfactor movie
1st I Would Of Started Off With Crisis Of Infinite 🌏s,Then Hit Ya With Domu-(Manga),& Frank Miller's Run Onnn Daredevil.....🏃♂️📚🏃♂️🔎💰🔍👀💯👀🔎💰🔍🏃♂️📚🏃♂️
This would be an awesome mini series of what you could do with $500, $1000, and $10000!
I absolutely agree! Maybe do multiple videos for each budget showcasing different books!!!
I still had my comics as a kid but only 20+ because of a flood.. I started with 50$, as I started working comic cons and now I'm over 100,000 books, golden, silver, copper, modern, complete runs of so many issues but recently, I've focused on buying the keyz to everything instead of owning the run

And what do I find the very next day? A nice high grade copy of Silver Surfer #1 for $15 at the local antique mall...
woohoo!

Appreciate this! It’s difficult to know where to start when advice typically targets people with a lot more disposable income.
I had my x-men 11 sent to CGC for Jim Lee's signature series. I can't wait to get it back. Probably going to be years before I sell it, if I ever do. I want it as a display piece

@@Swagglehaus Definitely, I actually took your advice and got some of these raw books and got amazing spider man 347 as my first slab ;)
Great video!! Definitely want to get that war machine. I kinda got into collecting because I like the idea of minor keys and cool low cost books
Its a great book! Hope you find it
I like collecting where I can display my collection like you got in the background.
Venom lethal Protector 1, spidey 2099 1 asm375 punisher war journal 1, I think go with the list you have as additional books with the same price range and significance
For sure, great suggestions!

Ayyy that's my dude!! Spider-Gwen first solo is one of my favorite books and marvel presents 1 is big nostalgia for me 🔥
I have that Wolverine from when I first got it in 87. It was actually my very first comic
I love this idea. People I follow in the watch community will do "perfect 3 watch collection for under x amount of dollars" type videos a lot.
Great video, would be awesome to see a 2023 one of these
Great stuff! When I started collecting comics back in May, I had X-men near the top of my list. I was able to get all of those first editions in high grade from my LCS and online. They definitely are great staples to start with! 🙂
Nice! Where did you get them from?

Great video idea--probably my favorite video of yours so far! Do it for a $1K budget next?
A shop near me (no, I'm not telling anyone where) has a whole long box of those X-Men #1 for a buck each. I've already bought a dozen or so but may go back soon for a bunch more. They'll never be huge expensive keys, but once X-Men join the MCU, I feel those will jump up nicely in price.
4 old X-Men or 1 new comic for the same price? For a comic book reader on a micro-budget, there's a lot of great content dirt cheap out in the wild.
Here's an outside-the-box option for Marvel fans who want an early '60s "origin issue" for a heroic character that can be purchased for $100 in decent condition -- it's Gunsmoke Western 72, with the cover story, "How Kid Colt Became an Outlaw!"

Thanks great video. Veve comics got me into physical comics
Great collection. Your flash sale was awesome. Bought more stuff from you :)
Awesome! Thank you!
You should have included your 1 book and 2 book collection choices at the end.
Great video! I'd personally take 10 for $100 over just one book any day!
Awesome recommendations, so nostalgic!
Damn forward 1 year later, we need another video like this!!
The only book I don’t have is that war machine 1. The other 9. In have put together. Today I bought spider Gwen 20$. And wolverine $17
You have assembled a great collection there sir!,
$100 I’m liking: Web of Spider-Man 1, Spider-Gwen 1, and possibly X-men #11 (I don’t personally see the the ‘classic’ behind it and the comic community has dubbed it ‘classic’ for no apparent reason) for real investment. You could definitely find some good stuff for $100. Good vid.
Thanks 👍!

Man you nailed it! Great picks all around. This would be perfect for a starter kit.
Great idea for new and current collectors! .. budgets aren’t fun, but necessary Haha
This would be a cool challenge for other comic book content creators on RUclips
Interesting list of comics that you suggested so glad that I already have some of these comics in my collection

@@qwerty52676 a lot of issues 300-400 sold on eBay on Sunday night for somewhere around the $4500 mark.
That would be a great run though.
Great video, would love to see some different monetary levels and approaches in the future.
This is a awesome collection I hope u do a part 2 It gave me some idea on how to start.
5:21 so many member-berries?
I sure had those for that X-men book too 😜
If I didn't own any comics, and had $100.. i'd go to the 50c bin and buy 200 comics and have a great time reading then.
Any other answer is prioritizing collecting over reading.
Pretty much all of these books are exactly where I started because I saw the prices of books and was floored so I grabbed all these to start
Comic collecting can be a affordable hobby. Great hobby too wanting to expand my comic and Manga collection.
Good pics! I need to hunt down a couple of those. Thanks!
Bro, little mistake there: X-Men 11 was written by Scott Lobdell with art by Jim Lee and Andy Kubert
Good list. Is it only Marvel on purpose? I'd want an indy superhero. Either Spawn #1 (important key, but high print run) or Grimjack #1 (great cover/story and Russo brothers want to make a movie).

Awesome insight bro. Thanks !!!
We appreciate your content bro
Great video would like to see more stuff like this.
Awesome vid.
You should make a top 10 spiderman comics to buy for a $100
Great video. Love to see more of these
Literally only have 100 to start my collection. Fate brought me here
Nice! Best of luck
nice pics
Thanks!
Lol what’s funny is u tell us to look out for the facsimile reprint of spiderman 347 but that’s what you’re showcasing in this video
Great video! Have 50% of the books that you shared. =)
great video

you have to explain the differences in the facsimile and originals for each of these books or at least put it in the description.
I'd send a new collector with one hundred bucks to a shop with a ginormous dollar bin section.
Man i have the xmen 5 ser and magneto seems to be super expensive but then i see cheap ones
I dig lower keys!!
I already maxed out my creditcard LOL
the word is YOLO
Fun video
Gwen is hard to find for that price now.
Yeah for sure, seems like that book really picked up these last couple months.
Xfactor 1 is also first app of rusty Collins firefist 😆
Was excited to check out the my slabs website only to find out they only ship in the United States lol that's to bad.
oh bummer...I'll ask them if they plan on opening it up for international soon
@@Swagglehaus oh thank you , I looked at the website for quite awhile and there were so many things I was thinking about getting lol
You should do a DC one
What about starting a collection with $100,000? Mo money , mo problems
Can you make a video on how you made your comic book display in the background? 🙏🏽
Not sure its "video worthy" :p, but all you need is the "Mosslanda" picture frame shelves from ikea
now do the DC version!
I dont know what's worse X_factor 71 or War Machine 1.
Why not show the original Amazing Spider-Man #347 ($1.00 cover) vs. the reprint ($3.99 cover)?
Now When Ya Day Add 2 Collection,Do Everything Has 2 Be Graded.....📚👀📚💰🔍🔎💰📚👀📚

With the War Machine #1 what does silver foil embossed cover mean? I have found one in eBay

What??!! No Darkhawk 1!?🤔🤣
i am going to start a company that grades and slabs slabs GET IN ON THE GROUND FLOOR
If i was just starting with $100.. I would go to my LCS and $100 worth of new and recent releases
def one way to do it :)
