What do we do with our comics that are valued at a dollar or less? Give them away to kids! Since we are costumers, whenever we go to cons, we give a comic to any kid that wants to take a picture with us or visits us at our fan table. This is our way of paying it forward and planting the seed for the next generation of comic collectors.

I've done garage sales with .25c/.50c/$1 boxes and bundled story arcs/runs for cheap... sold tons. Then donated the leftovers to children's wings of hospital or Boys/Girls clubs etc. Great way to move bulk.

Battletech was such a HUGE part of my childhood. The books were awesome (I’m actually collecting Battletech books from my childhood) and the tabletop game was cool. I never had the time or money to dedicate to the original tabletop game but dabbled in the helix-click pre-painted miniatures game. However, many forget about the CCG (collectible card game) that came out in the 90s. I LOVED that card game and spent countless hours of fun collecting, building decks, and playing. Great memories!

A great option for books you want to just get rid of to make space? Put them in a free little library near you. Great way to give the books out to kids in your neighborhood.

Great episode gentleman. You’ve are so correct regarding looking at the entire book out is the bag. I purchased a beautiful gi joe -#2 1st print newsstand. It was in a milite 4 with a full back. Got home to look at it more closely to find that it had water damage that was not detectable while in the milite bag. My $30 beauty turned into a $2 filler. ALWAYS take the bag out and if the seller will not let you. Walk away.

Love the Battletech talk as well. Role-playing games were an integral part of my pre-teens and teenage years and informed many of my reading choices, including comics. Always awesome when you guys give time to other things that mean a lot to me.
Thanks for all you do, guys.

At the 12:15 mark where you read the letter of a fellow looking to vend some non-grail type books. I've done that on eBay and I've been using that site for 25 years! Mostly as a buyer but I did take a couple of long boxes and I put them up on auction starting at .99 cents.
I had a lot of duplicates and triplicates and I wanted to thin it out. They sold well but I didn't group them, I sold them as single books even though many were numerically sequential. I used that money to offset other books I wanted and not come out of pocket so much. It was fairly labor intensive but might be less so if you group by maybe three or four books at a time. Best to him in that endeavour.

Excellent advice about selling low-value comics. I would also suggest that two of the photos on an Ebay listing should be of the interior of the comic, maybe inside cover/first page and the centrefold; I don't understand sellers who post only a photo of the cover and then give no written information about condition beyond "Acceptable" or "Very Good". Also, avoid "looks good for its age", this is a meaningless cliche when it comes to comics.
I second an Archie episode, so much comic book and social history in those titles.
And a Charlton episode too, their Silver Age output included some fascinating issues and series.

Getting rid of unwanted comics: I used to bag 2 books together back to back and sell the pack for $1 at garage sales. Often someone would come and buy the whole stack. Sometimes to encourage them to buy more I'd do a 'buy 3 packs get one free' deal.

I believe no particular Comic will ever become worthless and it actually takes about 30 years before you will begin to discover some of the most valuble Comics Within your own Particular Collection itself as most of thé actual Values behind Collevting Comics comes from the actual Artists themselves being tied (Inter-Changingly) to the actual Comics & Stories themselves and the ultimate passing of these various extremely Popular and Famous Artists of which have and had produced many different and Various types of Artworks,Characters, and Stories all throughout many Decades now.
So I believe that if you've gotten your enjoyments from Comics and some are not what you would prefer to keep then you should most likely Sell or Trade for something you actually want to have instead as either is actually benefitual to you in thé end.

Just love that comic book format screen! Even has the patina of old newsprint in the gutters!
Re: Ditko and Glanzman. What I read years ago was that when Ditko wrote the scripts for Charlton, he used the pseudonym DC Glanzman, which confused me as a kid, because I knew of Sam Glanzman and thought they were related. Maybe Dick Giordano assigned that name to those scripts? Why he didn’t credit Ditko on the scripts is a mystery. Wish I knew for sure where I read that, but I’m middle aged and my memory isn’t what it was.
In the late 70s/early 80s, I was a fiend for Ditko art and after discovering his Blue Beetle and Question books via Modern Comics reprints, I started looking for the original Charlton books at my LCS. (In 1979-80, 1960s era Charltons were really cheap!) Those Charlton reprints from Modern Comics (which you could always find at one of the K-Marts in Toledo) was a great source of discovery, such as Captain Atom (by Ditko), Peacemaker, Judo Master, E-Man, and other really great comics.
I’m all for an Archie-centric episode. I’m currently trying to piece together a run from #100-400, and I’ve already finished the #200-400, minus one of the dirty innuendo covers (#271, “Pearl necklace”) which I refuse to pay $100-300 for. Just waiting for a really low grade copy for $20 just to fill that open spot. Believe it, many of those mid-late 50s Archie’s are pricey, but I remember buying many high grade 12 and 15 centers in dollar boxes back in the day.

I was wondering, Richard would you ever be willing to do a video on a good jumping on point for the legion of super heroes? For years I've seen the poor legion of super heroes or legionnaires get roughed up in the dollar bin section and I was always interested, but overwhelmed with the quantity of series and issues that story line has. Hmm I’m not sure if minor keys are even worth holding onto. Sometimes these characters remain obscure despite being having a lot of potential. Sometimes I buy comics because of the cover art then realize it’s not even a key issue at all and will probably be worthless in the future despite have a $4-$5 price on the cover page. I don’t know how the comic industry is even surviving selling modern books with the current cover prices unless it’s only rich kids who buy them.

Why even say you care about comics if you don't want the regular issues and only collect key issues? Such a mentality is only investment in comics. It has nothing to do with devotion to comics or interest in them. If you only collect keys it means comics are only money to you, which is far from the point. A joke, really.

First appearances are the new "1st issue collector's item!" They're purely speculative, nearly no long term value and already tiresome. If Marvel and DC actually tried to invest in some half-decent writers they wouldn't need to rely so heavily on first appearances and variant covers but I know that's far too much to ask for at this point.

Do not store collectibles in storage units. There are homeless people that live in storage units and can steal your books without being detected.
