  • What does the Wessex British F Tuba sound like? What is it's importance in the musical world? In today's video, we discuss the History of the British F Tuba, and why we fell in love with it, before Will Druiett gives us a cheeky performance to demonstrate it's sound!
The performance was recorded using an Aston Spirit Microphone, and a Scarlette Focusrite interface, to ensure we were able to capture the beautiful sound that Will was able to achieve on our Wessex British F Tuba.
We're looking forward to getting Will back in the Warehouse to play test more of our Tubas! What would you like to see him play?
If you're interested in checking out the Wessex British F Tuba, or any of our other lines or instruments, you can do so at:

Looking forward to hearing from you!

First of all, congratulations Jonathan plus one and all at Wessex for bringing back this amazing English F Tuba, which apparently was extinct! It’s very intriguing! Such a tremendous option for all of us Tubists! Hmmmmmmm…

Love that sound! Very much like the middle brother of the tuba and baritone! Very mellow sound similar to a euphonium or baritone, love it.

I wonder if the Barlows will be reproduced one day, but of course, they were all different. 😊

However, I believe the Harry Barlow F tubas of the earlier 20th century were not compensating horns with 5 valves. This would be an interesting comparison, not to mention the 3+2 valve arrangement would perfectly suit most modern f tuba players.

It is compensated, so you've got three valves here and another one there. Deep insights here.

Some people are new to the world of Brass instruments, and appreciate a little extra guidance with things that others take for granted as common knowledge. When introducing this tuba, our social media manager/content creator (NOT a tuba player 😂) asked what makes it compensated, and Will kindly answered her. We’ll be making a video specifically based on these relatively *simple* questions for people who are just starting to learn about Brass instruments, too :)
