    Most dealerships I find online try to sell an FK8 Civic type R for $45000 to $50000 regardless of what year or miles on it. The fact that they only offered you$26000 is offensive to me.

I'm not even claiming to have gotten the best deal, just better than average, and so far only one person that actually works for a dealership that's privately owned has been able to buy one at MSRP.

      @@BigBear-- I get you, I do. But when I hear (and see videos) of dealers asking over 1/4 of the MSRP as a markup or more, it’s very difficult to just stay quiet and not call it out as a crime. At the end of the day it’s your money but it’s an honest disservice to the rest of consumers when one person is willing to overpay knowing this will cause a domino effect. Of course one could argue, “if not me, someone else will do it and get the vehicle I want” but again, markup exists when people are paying it. Can I pay the markup? Of course, but Honda isn’t going to run out of these, specially not at $60k each.

    The impression I'm getting is that the FK8 is a better car. It might have been the throttlehouse video but it showed the FK8 being faster than the FL5. The easy way to prevent the red carpet from looking bad over time is to put clear floor mats over it or matching red weathertech mats.

    • @FL5_OGryan405
      @FL5_OGryan405 Год назад +1

      Don’t think they make red colored weather techs Or too many aftermarket mats. Clear would be kinda cool I didn’t think of that, but I bet they would get that kinda yellowing color that clear rubber stuff changes to. but I think just a black weather tech mat looks really good. You can still see plenty of red carpet peeking out in places. The factory Honda all weather mats I’ve got in the fl5 right now are cool but they just don’t cover enough on the driver side, so I think I will be getting weather techs. I saw some cool type r logos that you can remove the weather tech logo on the mats and put on the type r logo and it actually looks really nice.

    Good video. Great looking FK8! I like the way the Mugen kit softened up the lines like you stated. I was just on Copart and the market value for the FK8 on some of the cars listed is upwards of 45k with over 20k miles on the odometer! I would imagine them asking over 60k for your car… they thought they had a sucker on the line in you and were salivating on the potential ripoff they were hoping to get… I drive an FK8 and was debating if I should get the new one. What’s good about the FK8 is it’s the first Type R offered to the States and it’s aggressive styling. I’m keeping mine. I’d rather wait for the new R offerings from Honda/Acura I can imagine them coming out with something really special in the near future & not so similar to what I already have. 😎🤙🏽🙏🏽

    Sell your car elsewhere, and then go back and say alright guys 10k over right now let’s get it done today. I payed 10k over for mine, I jumped on it when I found one and didn’t do much more looking after that. I’ve heard some people finding it at msrp and I’ve heard of some paying 5k over and some paying 7 and 8k over. But Atleast for me I couldn’t justify paying anymore than 10k over so I was fairly happy. Of course would have been nice to get it cheaper but the 15-25k over msrp is just pretty crazy to me. I would really either not buy a car period or look at something totally different at that price point.

    In all honesty, this is why I got the Elantra N MT. It has ALOT better value than the CTR. for literally 10k less you get similar performance, a better sounding exhaust (by a long shot), and the choice between DCT and M/T. It's also easier to find at MSRP, so that's another win. 44k for a civic not including markup is a little steep.

      @ryan gregg Honda fans are who they are because of what honda USE to be. They're not gonna go crazy for a somewhat underwhelming 11th gen si or some other modern Honda. I strongly feel like you can get a lot more value with what the N division has to offer. I'm not downplaying the Type R, but I'm just saying that even for the CTR 40k+ is a lil steep for what it is. Put a lil tune on the N and it may as well be a type R. I sound like a Korean hyundai fanboy, but I promise you that's not the case. I'm just looking at the general competition, and the N cars really blow it out of the water.

    Stiffer to accommodate wider and more aggressive tires. FK8 dampers are not aggressive enough. FL5 is 5-10% better in every way. Used FK8s are 45-50k and most dealers are 10k markup on the FL5. Seems like the video was a little biased soft bash lol.

    • @PhyFK8
      @PhyFK8  Год назад +3

      I can’t say there isn’t some bias you’re right. But I can say that stiffer doesn’t mean better. Every review has said FL5 suspension is so stiff that it upsets the car. Tsuchiya and others actively driving it outside of R mode for every track test video; many sources saying the suspension was a step in the wrong direction. I can agree I came off harsh to the FL5 in this video. I do like it, but at 74k before Tax that the dealership was asking for (more than double what I paid for my FK8), its performance doesn’t justify the cost difference. A car is more than performance though, and it is indeed beautiful, refined, and will check the boxes for many people

      Fk8's have been steadily going up/appreciating. This is reasonably different than 40k markups.
      ⚫When fk8 came out markups was around 4k, not 30 to 40 f*cking thousand dollars!!
      ⚫Fl5 is heavier, and slower than fk8 in drag race.
      ⚫Fl5 has a slightly bigger form factor, many would prefer it less for casual street driving
      ⚫Fl5 reasonably looks basic; looks like it's worth around 10k total. (May end up in the Doug Demuro aston martin attention test levels of ignore by general public)
      ⚫In video's I've seen, fk8 actually looks wider. So called width increase looks unnoticeable for fl5

      Getting a brand new one out the door for the same price as used fk8’s would be amazing

    Ahh...the videos of FK8 owners trying to justify why their cars are better just keep coming. Why?! Just enjoy ur ride, and stop hating on other people's shit. Even more hilarious is guy trying to act like he's smarter by buying a 2017 FK8 5 years later, for what it cost new. You just payed a mark-up buddy...
    The FL5 IS objectively better in every way except maybe looks (which tech is subjective), even though looks were dictated by aerodynamic performance. The stock suspension is stiffer, but not like some reviewers make it seem, they just used the wrong setting in the wrong environment. It still maintains one of the largest (if not the largest) adjustment ranges. Reviewers either don't know, or are too lazy, too biased, or too dumb to be able to put the suspension into a softer mode while keeping everything else in R-Mode (and deactivating VSA and Traction Control through the pedal dance). That's not the fault of the car or the designers (though I think Honda should have offered the option on press days...😒 as usual marketing department screws up).

    • @PhyFK8
      @PhyFK8  Год назад

      LOL you writing 2 whole ass paragraphs. Why are you so mad? I do enjoy my ride, and where am I "hating on anyone else's shit"? I've said in other videos I like the FL5 too. Even in this video I mentioned liking things about it like the wing, the hood, the shifter, etc. I never said the FK8 is better. All I was saying in this video is the price difference with mark up can't be justified from a performance vs performance standpoint between the two cars. Lastly, I bought my car cash from a private owner at less than MSRP, so idk what you're talking about?

    • @BigBear--
      @BigBear-- Год назад

      @@PhyFK8 I'll rewatch the video, but I thought u mentioned you paid 34K, and that you said that for the markups the dealer is asking you could buy two of your FK8's. Which would put it right around original MSRP. If you paid less, and I missed that, then fine, i was wrong about that one thing.
      However the last 3-4 minutes of the video, I'm not wrong about. I specifically addressed you're assumptions regarding the suspension. Plus comparing a modified FK8 vs a stock FL5 and saying they're the same is why I called it hate, that and the uninformed opinions regarding the suspension setup.
      The stock FL5 is objectively a better performance vehicle than the stock FK8. Can you modify an FK8 and get it to match the FL5, sure, you can even modify it and have it outperform the stock FL5. But then you could say the same for the FL5...that modified it will perform better.
      Like the engineers of the FL5 said, because it shares a bunch of components like the powertrain with the FK8, they were able to dedicate a lot more time than they normally would have during new vehicle development on tuning and perfecting the vehicle. A lot of the money you're paying for isnt a new engine, its how its tuned and how it works as a complete vehicle...and when you drive the FL5 you realize the extra money is well spent, as it's overall feel and driving dynamics are so much improved as a complete package. That and the improved interior and overall build quality. I owned a 2020 Si Coupe for 3 years before I got into the FL5, so I speak from experience, the interior and build quality by comparison is significant and add to the extra that you pay for it. I loved my old car and it was great, it wasnt bad or anything ... this is just in a different league.

    • @PhyFK8
      @PhyFK8  Год назад

      @@BigBear-- I didn't mention an exact price at any point, I just said I got my FK8 at less than half of what the marked up price of the FL5 is, which is true. I compared my modified FK8 time to the stock and modified FL5 Dai drove: I compared my :59 at Buttonwillow to their stock time of :59 and modified time of :57 (with more mods and a pro driver behind the wheel). I don't hate the FL5 by any means, I really like it. Just not at the marked up price. I agree that the FL5 looks and feels much more premium, and I do think it is worth it MSRP to MSRP, but IMO not with a 30k mark up to OTD at 74k before tax. I'm glad you're enjoying your car. Value is subjective, so as long as you enjoy it, that's all that should matter
