  • I decided to take the FL5 out for a drive and talk about my first impressions and over all feelings about the new Civic Type R. Thanks again for watching and don't forget to like the video and give the channel a follow!

    Interesting. I feel way more torque steer in the FL5 than I did in my last FK8. The FL5 feels more playful. While aggressively turning and accelerating, you definitely feel the torque steer.

    ive heard that from factory there is a special blend used for the break-in period and that it's actually detrimental to change oil before standard 600-1000 mile range...

      Everyones break in process is a little different and everyone thinks the way they do it is the best and only way lol. You really just want to change the oil right away, right around 50 miles or so to get any lubricants out they used when assembling. After that its really up to you but I say around 300 and then around 800-1000. Ive used that method on most of my cars and it seems to do the trick. Obviously every motor is different but if you just do the basic break in changes you'll be fine.

      @@peter_sims He's right you should leave the factory oil in until the first change, it helps with the bedding in process, you don't want to be replacing it with fully synthetic because the engine wont be run in at the designated mileage. I don't know why you think Honda would use anything during assembly that needs to be flushed out

      @@4Kandlez Every engine on the planet uses lubricants when assembled. Its not a bad thing to run them in the oil for the first 50-100 miles as its part of the break in process but you eventually want to flush it out once its purpose is up.

      @@4Kandlez Also, what really helps the rings sit properly is engine braking and proper driving during the break in. Having proper break in oil obviously helps but not everyone will have access to that. There are a lot of "myths" about engine break ins and all I can say from past experience is proper engine braking while driving for the first 300 miles or so and keeping the car under 4000 rpms helps a lot. I always try to use Motul break in oil which I used until I did the 1000 mile oil change and then I went synthetic. IMO the engine rings are going to be set as well as can be around 300-400 miles. It's all just personal preference. You don't have to break in your engine at all if that's your things lol not judging.

      @@peter_sims the best and fastest way to find out anything about break-in procedure and what not is to read your owner's manual. I bet what it says there is something like "your engine does not require any special break-in procedures. Just don't drive at constant speed and change gears frequently for the first 1500 mi." Also the procedure of flushing brand new oil after 50-100 mi is a thing of the past, it used to be true in the 80s, but it's 2023 already. The modern day metallurgy and lubrication tech has advanced tenfold. Brand new oil from factory contains special sealant additives as well as special dyes to track any potential leaks or engine defects. At the end of the day it's your car, so you do what you thing is best.

    And you're not using 6th gear on the freeway because...? Seeing you siting in 5th doing 80 was a bit painful. I cruise in 6th in my ST doing 65 lol.

      You don't need to baby the car lol. Sometimes I prefer being in a lower gear for the power. The civics power range is higher in the RPMs...

      But yes I agree lol cruising in 6th has its benefits like MPG. I do normally drive all my 6 speeds on the freeway in the highest gear so I understand your pain haha. These Hondas tho, I've discovered after driving this one for over a month now love the RPMs and really don't mind being taken to the redline. I actually have a lot of mechanical sympathy towards my cars but I can't help it sometimes when I get a new car and want to really push it and enjoy the full driving experience.

      @@peter_sims CTR is GTDi (Gasoline Turbo Direct Injection) so it can suffer from the typical LSPI (Low Speed Pre Ignition). I do love to floor my car on freeways too, but I always downshift to 4th gear to floor it, and won't go to 5th until I top out 4th to be safe.

    Have you ever tried the s2000 shifter? Those are amazing! Curious how it compares to the FL5’s

      I haven't, I want to tho! Im sure they are both excellent, Honda makes a great shifter.

    What did you pay over MSRP in Cali?

      I paid 8k over MSRP, which included the dealership accessories and the dealership markup.

      @@automagni I thought so too! I of course would rather not pay any markup lol but after talking to the manager at the dealership we were able to come to a fair agreement.

      @@peter_sims fuck every single Cali dealer. Ain’t nothing fair about paying 8k over msrp. There’s not a single reason for them to do a markup since they aren’t getting charged a cent over what they usually get the vehicle for from the manufacturer. They only want to take advantage of customers because you guys let them.

      @@JK-qj9qp I agree, there is absolutely nothing fair about dealership markups. Unfortunately, that is just the way things are here in CA so we have to adapt. Trust me, we are all upset about the markups.
