In my opinion the worst thing about it is the dealerships marking it up. For 70k you can get a whole different level of car then a civic. No matter what new features it has it couldnt be justified spending that amount of money. It also wont ever be in stock due to the demand and only the "rich" or broke boys making the worst financia descision will cop these. They ruined it for a regular joe.

Agree, the more recent civics are far from the original concept. No shit here in Italy they are even more rare than the old ones, most likely for the prices and the fact that there are cheaper and equally fun, if not more, options. A Hyundai I30N or a Yaris GR are far more convenient for our market, and cost almost 10k less of a Civic Type R

What a waste of R&D time. This car will never be obtainable to be what it was meant to be (affordable performance). People with disposable income will buy them and keep them in garages while targeted demographic will have to settle for RUclips videos. This is a USA problem to be clear, not world problem. Only USA has aggressive laws protecting dealers and mandating they exist without any control. It boggles my mind that the company who made the car is powerless in preventing their customers from being ripped off. People who made the car said this car costs $44K but we have to give it to a third party who had nothing to do with R&D so they can add $25K mark up to line their pockets before our customers can have it. If you think about it, it is quite insane.

That shiftknob boot is not correct in the intro. 2:28 Boot should be flush to the knob. Looks like they double nutted it? That's what my dealer did. The car shipped without a knob for whatever reason (or someone stole it). They ordered a new knob and weren't sure how to install it. They stuck the nut on AND the knob. However the original nut was still in the boot. I didn't realize that at first, I was like eh whatever I just want to get it home then I'll fix it. Spent a half hour fixing it when I got it home. Kind of a pain since the nut does not release easily. Just putting that out there. Other wise, yes great car! The only thing I really regret is the markup! lol

With the previous gen people were paying ridiculous markups and they were getting returned or taken back and the same exact thing will more than likely happen with this generation also. Last gen Type R was way better looking. The reason they changed the styling so dramatically, was because they admit that old people, within Honda & customers, complained that it was "too wild". Lol whatever. I like Honda. But they nerfed the looks on this one. Last gen is gonna be a classic someday. This one will be forgotten.

I voted for new fun lightweight manual cars by buying a new ND miata 2334lbs and 4 lug wheels. Part of the advantage of front wheel is simplicity and lightweight vs awd and rwd. The GR86 and GR Yaris is at 2800lbs. Early 90s civics were an amazing 2100lbs - lighter than a NA miata. But I do love the Type R's useable interior space and trunk over the the GR corolla (3200lbs). With fast but heavy 4000lb EVs with 3s 0-60 times, I'm happy manufacturers are understanding fun, sound, and feel is greater than just 0-60 times.

Another way to beat dealer markups (assuming car companies can’t do anything to dealers and it’s killing cool cars) is by producing a lot of that particular model. So it wouldn’t be so rare and dealers wouldn’t feel a need to markup. When it’s ultra limited they try and make as much money as possible outta them whereas they can make just as much or even more by selling a whole bunch because they sell like hot cakes by the looks of the complaints on comments.
