It’s not good work by today’s standards. Slopping on seam sealer and spreading it with a paint brush is laziness. Not to mention filler over top of shiny ground metal… it won’t last. I cringed watching it, sadly. Seems like a good guy but he’s stuck in the past with his methods unfortunately.
@@UncleDale_ I'm glad someone pointed it out. I honestly have next to no knowledge with regards to body or sheet metal work, and Steve seems to be someone dedicated to his craft, but I felt like something's wrong with his methods. One of the reasons the Type-Rs are such mean handling machines, is the seam welds (as opposed to the more common spot welds) all around the body frame. Using seam sealant instead of seam welding back the quarter panel? I don't know man, it feels like that has become the weak spot of the chassis, doesn't seem sufficient to me. I'm all for saving the Type-R, but I'm not sure cutting the quarter panel out is the way.
"but I'm not sure cutting the quarter panel out is the way." How else are you supposed to fix it? Even if you were to pull it and everything, its lost its structural rigidity. You need a new panel. Also if you're worried about no welds on the quarterpanel, know that the Honda Civic Type R FD2R was exclusive bonded together with glue to save weight and that car is rigid as fuck, so much that the 2008 model year had to have softer suspension because people complained the car was too stiff. @@RaptureOnCloudNo.9
Steve should start his own youtube channel. His work is very much detail oriented while most other youtubers are the build and go/will it run types of videos. Steve's work is very refreshing to watch
Agreed. For the fact that he went for the extra 3mm, be it because he is being videoed or not, imo, speaks to the calibre of work he does and/or puts out. I'd actually follow if he did one
@@James-po2svFunny how ppl think starting a channel is just doing exactly what you're doing now but with a camera, not realizing all the stuff we see on camera was curated and planned beforehand. Not to mention all the extra time on the computer now
Not sure if you guys went to film school or not, but I applaud your skills in not only camera work/cinematography, but also the way you move the narrative along and tell a compelling story without any pandering BS

You know... you drive past places like Steve's often, but rarely stop to think about the kind of masterful expertise and craftsmanship that happen inside. I think a lot of people would see the absolute unit of a man Steve is, and not give a second thought to the precision work he does. Kudos to the hard working folks at Choice Collision!
My best friend is a body man. He's been doing it since he was 14 years old, he's 57 now. I've seen ppl come in that shop over the years who were just ungrateful and cheap skates. This work is hard! Always amazing to watch tradesman like this. Insane amount of tools, talent and work to get this even remotely close to what it was out of the factory.
Good as new! We used to "skin" panels back in the day. Hammer the areas around the filler neck and door sills. Then weld a good panel right over the damage. Sometimes it would help alignment because the new panel holes could be used as mounting points to hold it in place while welding.
It’s always a pleasure to watch a master in action performing his choice of craft. The attention to detail, the tips and tricks, the experience and knowledge they display, always amazing to me :)
Good work , but I don’t think so about replacing spot weld with glue, it’s not what Honda recommends to do as far of the replacement procedure for 1/4 , the rigidity not gonna be the same especially if it’s gonna go back on the truck , with all that body roll , that glue can split because there’s no weld in the door jam area where the rocker is and 1/4 glass is , he only weld it where where he put body filler, I’ll would recommend to go to specialty shop
Finally someone said something. Everybody's praising him. I'm a body and paint tech and that's Definitely not how honda says to do it and no spot welds or resistance welds, no weld thru primer on the backside of the welds either.
Maybe not that much for regular car... but that episode shows perfectly why modern cars are being totaled by the insurances so easily... Amount of labor to make it right is very expensive (plus parts, paint, painting, prep, etc)
After many years of being a mechanic and jumping into the body shop world you learn A LOT of things and this man is simply a Stud. Reminds me a lot of my old boss, aka 2nd dad.
